CONSTRUCTION ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION
Old Town Design Group is seeking a Construction Assistant to join our team inCarmel, IN. We are a dynamic and growing custom home builder, known for developing outstanding locations with timeless home designs. FUNCTION
The Construction Assistant will assist the Construction Manager in ensuring the quality of each Old Town build; adherence to the construction schedule and job readiness; job site cleanliness; completion of punch list items; jobsite safety; and facilitating communication as required with vendors, independent contractors and homeowners.
MISSION
The Construction Assistant will maintain the integrity of Old Town in all aspects. All responsibilities performed require extensive knowledge and understanding of all
Old Town residential and commercial standards mission and values. Candidate will possess an entrepreneurial work ethic and be able to work collaboratively with other Old Town team members.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the Construction Manager in managing and maintaining an accurate construction schedule ensuring 100% job readiness for vendors and independent contractors
Perform quality inspections and complete job checklists in adherence with established company quality standards and expectations as directed by the Construction Manager
Field and assist the Construction Manager in answering questions from vendors and independent contractors
Ensure completion of punch list items as assigned to vendors and independent contractors or as assigned directly from Construction Manager
Maintain job site cleanliness per company standards and expectations including but not limited to holding vendors and independent contractors accountable for cleanliness and self-performing general job site cleanliness work such as sweeping and power washing
Set up customer material storage areas in basement and ensure that extra material for potential repairs and touch-ups are kept and organized
Facilitate appropriate responses to homeowner questions that may be presented
Assist the Construction Manger with all homeowner meetings as directed
Monitor job site safety and proactively address any potential unsafe operations or conditions
Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED
Ability to read construction drawings and technical manuals
Ability to perform minor punch items
Clean background and driving record
Self-starter who can work well both as part of a team and independently
Willingness to contribute when and where needed, to work with other team members to ensure all functions are completed in an efficient and timely manner.

Assist with installing trench and excavation safety systems to maintain a safe work environment.

Laborer Overview
The Laborer position is a dynamic, entry level role that works as part of a diverse crew to complete a variety of tasks within the Shiel Sexton concrete division. This role is perfect for someone looking to enter or further grow their career inconstruction - we provide training and development with a stable and consistent workload. This position encompasses multiple stages of the concrete process; from preparing the worksite, building forms, and rebar installation to pouring and top off.
Role Responsibilities
Preparing the worksite area for concrete footings and assembling concrete forms at construction site locations.
Bending, Forming, Tying, and Installing rebar as illustrated in the plan or as directed by supervisor.
Aligning and bracing portions of project assembly, using bubble leveler, boards, nails, and hammer. Using tape measure or laser sighting to measure between columns.
Installing outside and inside wall panels, inserting pins or wall ties through holes in concrete wall panels to support, lift, and position panels.
Removing obstructions in grosses with hammer and chisel. Patching holes, cracks, and joints in assembled sections using mortar and trowel or other necessary tools.
Filling forms or panels with wet concrete. Vibrate, screed, trowel, or prepare surface, to ensure proper concrete settling and surfacing.
Top off, screed, or float the top of wall with necessary tools as required.
Qualifications
Some construction experience preferred but not required, we will train motivated and driven individuals.
Good attitude and willingness to learn and grow a long-term career.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and some comfort with hand tools.

About the Job
Supervise installation and dismantling of equipment, including the erection and breakdown of scaffolds, ladders, walkways and handrails, floorings, etc. Oversee and enforce company safety standards. Oversee operations of multiple crews for projects.

Preparing the worksite area for concrete footings, concrete sitework, concrete slabs, and assembling concrete forms at construction site locations.
Installing rebar as illustrated in plan or as directed by supervisor.
Aligns and braces formwork necessary for concrete placement.
Measures distances for formwork using tape measure.
Installs outside and inside wall panels using physical strength or if necessary pneumatic hoist. Inserts pins or wall ties through holes in concrete wall panels to support, lift and position panels.
Removes defects in concrete; Patches holes, cracks, and joints in assembled sections using repair patch or necessary tools.
Fill forms or panels with wet concrete and vibrate, to ensure proper concrete consolidation and surfacing as necessary or as described in plan.
Disassembling/Cleaning of concrete forms after concrete placement.
Experience and Qualifications:
Three to five years of experience in commercial concrete construction;
Construction operations experience is preferred;

A Laborer assists Craft Journeyman and Craft Helpers by performing support tasks on construction projects such as erecting, wrecking, repairing, maintenance and janitorial functions. Considered entry level.
WORK SCHEDULE
Varies by location. Must have open availability any time, any day of the week. Length of employment is limited to job assignment and/or project duration.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Safety - work safely around the hazards associated with the Construction field.
Tools - use hand, electric, pneumatic and hydraulic tools and in a safe manner.
Construction Math - Demonstrates a basic level of competency inconstruction math as required in trade practice.
Rigging Equipment - Safely and competently identify and use basic rigging procedures and equipment including chain hoists, come-alongs, jacks and tuggers.
Dig, spread and level dirt and gravel using a pick and shovel.
Lift, carry and hold building materials and supplies
Clean tools, equipment, materials and work areas, including sweeping, mopping and other general clean-up activities.
Join, wrap, align and seal sections of pipe.
Assemble sections of dredge pipeline.
Measure distance from grade stakes and drive stakes
Stretch tight line
Bolt, nail, align and block up under forms.
Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
Mop, brush or spread paints or bituminous compounds over surfaces for protection.
Spray materials such as water, sand, steam, vinyl, paint or stucco through hose to clean, coat or seal surfaces.
Grind, sand or polish surfaces using abrasive tools or machines.
Demolish buildings, saw lumber, dismantle forms, remove objects from concrete, mount hangars and cut and attach insulating material.
Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
Follow oral and written directions.
Work within company policies (including Safety and Human Resources policies), client policy and OSHA safety requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor as needed.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of pre-hire and post-hire substance abuse testing as required by company and/or client.
Completion of Safety related certifications such as OSHA 10 or Safety council programs as required by company and/or client.

ENVIRONMENT
