HOURLY: $14.62 JOB OBJECTIVE: Under general supervision from the Director of Sanitation/Public Works or his/her designee. Is responsible for general labor of the corresponding department. Will occasionally prepare simple reports and/or records on a daily basis. Position has little or no contact with the public. The position has no supervisory responsibilities. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Lead crews on assigned projects to see that projects are completed and performed in a professional, cost effective and timely manner. Overseeing all aspects of assigned projects including but not limited to project preplanning, crew safety, traffic control, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and quality control. Lead crew and participate in performing street and sidewalk maintenance such as installing driveway pipe, patching asphalt or concrete, cleaning streets and storm drains, and related tasks. 4. Instruct employees in proper work methods and standards; monitor crew work quality; ensure adherence to time schedules and safe work practices, provide performance feedback and into performance review. Operate all equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks such as backhoe, motor grader, tractors, street sweeper, hand tools, and mowing machines. Perform equipment repair and maintenance duties. Participate in stand-by during natural disasters or inclement weather. Maintain alleys and right of ways by being mowed and cleaned. Maintain tree trimmed that obstructs traffic view, signs or the proper maneuvering of vehicles. 10. Work with power tools such as, but not limited to drills, weed eaters, chainsaws etc. on a daily basis. Ensures that the assigned city vehicle is properly maintained and serviced. Reports damages and graffiti to city facilities. Work in a variety of weather conditions. Duties involve considerable bending, lifting, digging, carrying or walking with the chance for variety, and/or using force equal to lifting 20-50 pounds periodically (chain saw, trash cans, mis. Equipment). Perform other related duties as required. EQUIPMENT/MATERIAL: City vehicles, two-way radio, trade tools, general garden tools, weed eaters, push mowers, chain saws, hedgers, blowers, pole saws, and 15 to 30 horsepower garden tractors. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Works outdoors all day with some unusual working hours or irregular hours which may also include some shift hours, due to weather conditions. Must be able to endure the hot sun most of the days and on occasion inclement weather. Wil have exposure to hazards which might result in serious injury, may work under extreme outdoor conditions. Continuous lifting of heavy materials, constant physical movement; demands physical strength associated with hard labor or forceful physical contacts. Perform physical and manual work on a daily basis. EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIRED: Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent; however, will be afforded an opportunity to acquire within nine (9) months if the applicant does not possess one at the time of employment. Must have a minimum of (6) months of related experience to perform effectively, with little supervision, in work situations which are varied or which have deviations and irregularities.
