Position Summary: The Labor Superintendent is responsible for managing all field labor operations for Hohl Industrial Services, including foremen, journeymen, and trades personnel. This position oversees the preparation, scheduling, and performance of field labor to ensure safe, accurate, and on-time completion of all projects. Working closely with Dispatch, the Labor Superintendent will ensure seamless coordination of manpower assignments and execution of the project schedule. Key Responsibilities: Personnel Management Allocate all union labor to Field Service and Construction projects. Coordinate with the Equipment Manager and Transportation Dispatcher to schedule and mobilize qualified crane operators and other specialized labor. Ensure proper assignment of trades in compliance with jurisdictional and union requirements. Address and resolve jurisdictional and other labor issues in collaboration with Union Business Agents. Manage personnel actions including hiring, releasing, and layoffs as required by project needs. Supervise, train, and evaluate performance of foremen and journeymen. Maintain and update daily, weekly, and monthly labor schedules. Ensure all employees operating company vehicles are enrolled in and compliant with the LENS program. Distribute employee paychecks to job sites as needed. Availability & Travel Be available on call 24/7 to address field labor needs and emergencies. Travel to out-of-town job sites when necessary. Safety Partner with the Safety Manager to maintain required safety training for all foremen. Hold foremen accountable for attending safety meetings and adhering to safety protocols. Assist in distributing "Toolbox Talks" and other safety communications. Other Duties Maintain a professional and customer-focused attitude at all times. Utilize departmental software, including Microsoft Office Suite and Viewpoint ERP systems. Attend and actively participate in company and departmental meetings. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Education & Experience High school diploma or GED required, Associate degree in Construction Management, Business, or a related field preferred. 7-10 years of progressive experience in construction or industrial services, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or superintendent-level role overseeing union labor. Strong knowledge of labor coordination, union agreements, and trade jurisdictional issues. Proven ability to manage large, diverse teams of skilled tradespeople. Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and direct experience working with union representatives. Demonstrated experience balancing manpower needs, scheduling, and budgets across multiple projects. Solid understanding of jobsite safety practices, OSHA regulations, and safety training requirements. Skills & Abilities Exceptional communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including project cost estimation. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP/project management systems (e.g., Viewpoint). Ability and willingness to be on call 24/7 and travel as required. Work Environment & Physical Demands: Office: Typical office setting with moderate noise and temperature control. Field/Shop: Exposure to construction and plant environments that may include dirt, noise, limited climate control, and safety hazards.     Organizational Mission The Appalachian Trail Conservancy's mission is to protect, manage, and advocate for the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Under the supervision of the Regional Manager, the Crew Leader is responsible for implementing Trail and related facility construction, reconstruction, and land management projects. This position manages and motivates trail crews, which consist of crew members and/or volunteers. The Crew Leader is responsible for behavior management and fostering positive crew morale through consistent teamwork. This position will provide collaborative leadership for the crew, ensure safety procedures are followed and communicate with partners. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Implement Trail construction, reconstruction, and maintenance projects in cooperation with A.T clubs and partner agencies. Determine logistical needs in advance to ensure that appropriate tools, equipment, materials, and other necessary resources are available to complete assigned projects. Ensure volunteer and/or staff trail crew members are trained in and implement best practices in Trail design, construction, reconstruction, and maintenance according to ATC and land managing agency standards. Ensure safe and sanitary conditions at field camps and work sites, transport crews safely, and respond appropriately to any emergency situations that may arise. Promote an atmosphere in which all crew members feel welcomed, motivated, safe, and included, and where participation and contributions from all are valued and appreciated. Follow the direction of designated supervisors with respect to duties, logistics, timetables, projects, submit biweekly timesheets, weekly hour and project reports, and perform other duties as assigned. Ensure purchases of food, supplies, gear, and materials follow ATC's financial procedures. Travel on foot over rough terrain and for long distances while carrying equipment in possible inclement weather. Qualifications Two or more seasons of front/backcountry camping or working outdoors. At least one season of trail crew leadership. At least one season of experience in building/rebuilding trails: constructing new sidehill, stone steps or cribbing, log steps or cribbing, improving drainage, addressing erosion, etc. Ability to manage and be responsible for all aspects of a trail crew. In good mental and physical health, ability to hike up to 10 miles per day in steep, mountainous terrain. Commitment to ATC management and resource protection efforts. Proven ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to effectively communicate with individuals, groups and partners. Ability to live independently and work in a remote area with minimal supervision. Strong hiking and outdoor experience. Experience working with volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. Responsibilities: Inspect problem roofs to determine the best repair procedures Remove snow, water, or debris from roofs prior to applying roofing materials Set up scaffolding to provide safe access to roofs Cover roofs with appropriate materials (shingles, slate, etc.) Cement or nail flashing strips of metal or shingle over joints to make them watertight Estimate materials and labor required to complete roofing jobs Interact professionally with customers and effectively communicate about the scope and status of work Qualifications: Past experience as a roofer preferred Experience with the use of hand-held and power tools Experience working with all types of building materials Must be able to climb ladders and stairs, comfortably lift 40+ pounds repetitively, and work on your feet for long periods of time Ability to work in extreme environments, e.g. hot sun, below freezing, crawl spaces, etc.
