We are currently representing a leading commercial GC who are looking for a MEP Superintendent to work on large scale projects in the Tampa area.
The MEP Superintendent is responsible for the overall field planning, coordination, and supervision of all Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing scopes of work. The primary goal is to ensure that all MEP systems are installed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, in accordance with the contract documents and project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Coordination and Management:
Manage and coordinate all MEP subcontractors, vendors, and trades on-site.
Develop, maintain, and manage the MEP critical path schedule, including coordinating equipment and material deliveries.
Review and interpret MEP drawings, specifications, and submittals for completeness and constructability, coordinating with the design team to resolve discrepancies.
Lead the MEP coordination process, including resolving clashes and conflicts identified in coordinated documents (e.g., BIM).
Organize and conduct regular coordination meetings with subcontractors.
2. Quality Control and Commissioning:
Implement and manage the quality control (QC) process for all MEP system construction.
Conduct regular inspections of work to ensure compliance with design standards, codes, and specifications, initiating corrective action when necessary.
Manage the startup and pre-testing of mechanical and electrical systems.
Coordinate and support third-party commissioning (Cx) activities, including managing commissioning documentation (e.g., FWT, L2, L3, QA/QC).
Manage the MEP project closeout process, including punch list completion and turnover of required documentation.
3. Safety and Compliance:
Enforce and uphold high safety standards for all MEP activities on the job site, ensuring compliance with OSHA and company safety programs.
Develop and manage safety protocols for critical work, such as electrical energization and working in live environments.
Achieve all required MEP jurisdictional inspections.
4. Communication and Leadership:
Provide daily leadership and direction to the MEP team and subcontractors.
Communicate issues, progress, and performance daily to the Project Manager and other project leadership.
Maintain a strong working relationship with the client, design professionals, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is often preferred.
Experience: A a minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial construction, with a significant concentration in MEP work, or an equivalent combination of education and trade experience.
In-depth knowledge of mechanical (HVAC, piping, plumbing), electrical (power, lighting, low-voltage), and fire/life safety systems.
OSHA 30-Hour certification is required.
