1948

On March 8, 1948 “The Construction Specifications Institute” was incorporated in the State of Maryland.

The Construction Specifications Institute was founded in 1948.

1951

By May, 1951, the procedures had been developed, and the Institute Board granted a charter to the Metropolitan New York City Chapter.

1957

By action of the Board of Directors of The Construction Specifications Institute February 16, 1957

In May 1957, the Construction Specifier introduces a new department, "Specifications Methods."

Los Angeles adopts a revised building code in 1957 that permits construction of high-rise buildings.

In 1957, the first annual convention is held in conjunction with the American Institute of Architects.

In 1957, the Board redefines boundaries.

1962

Two years later, a group of members in New York City applied to the Institute for charter as a chapter. It was incorporated on March 9, 1962.

1994

In 1994 in Banff, the group held its Constitutional Session, voted to adopt the new draft statues, registered the name of the organisation as the International Construction Information Society (I.C.I.S.), and then elected officers and a board of directors.

2004

A new revision, published in late 2004 as “MasterFormat™ 2004″ has the potential for 50 divisions under a new system of organization.

2014

The most current version of MasterFormat™ is the 2014 version.
