Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to drive the development of high performance opto-mechanical subsystems for a new tool platform at Applied Materials. As part of a multi-disciplinary team working on exciting new technologies, this role also offers solid personal career growth opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Independently, develops and implements opto-mechanical concepts high performance imaging and/or illumination optics, including tolerancing, alignment and automated mechanisms.
This position requires participation in all aspects of the design cycle from specification development, design, supplier support, part verification, and integration.
Technically lead and/or execute engineering projects and spearhead research and development of new technologies, as appropriate.
Problem identification and troubleshooting a wide range of significantly complex engineering problems.
Specify or perform significantly complex engineering analysis.
Interface with internal and external customers regarding significantly complex engineering issues to address customers High Value Problems (HVP) for a range of products
Generate product specifications. Define, coordinate, perform, and document engineering tests.
Specify the development, design, or modify engineering layouts/schematics and/or detailed drawings/specifications of significantly complex scope
Specify and review engineering documentation and engineering processes.
Qualifications
MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related fields.
Minimum of 8 years of Experience
Proficient in opto-mechanical, precision mechanical and mechanism design and familiar with high precision optical design implementations.
Experienced with specification derivations, tolerancing design, alignment and compensation, thermal and dynamic stability, metrology.
Experienced with 3D CAD such as Solidworks or Inventor, and FEA for static and dynamic structural and thermal analyses.
Anticipates business and regulatory issues; recommends product, process or service improvements
Leads projects with notable risk and complexity; develops the strategy for project execution
Solves unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business; requires conceptual and innovative thinking to develop solutions

U.S. Salary Range:
$163,000.00 - $224,000.00

THE WORK
The GG Cyber architect (Satellite RF Engineering) is in an extremely customer facing role leading multi faceted mission critical system development, deployment and evolution and modernization. The following are the primary functions of the position:
• Survey existing RF systems from LNA (Low Noise Amplifier) to Data Processing: The engineer should thoroughly survey and assess the current RF systems, starting from the LNA (Low Noise Amplifier) all the way to data processing units. This comprehensive review will help identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement within the existing infrastructure.
• Survey existing control and tasking systems: The engineer will need to evaluate the current control and tasking systems to understand their functionality, limitations, and potential for integration with the new architecture. This assessment will ensure seamless communication between the satellite earth terminal and other systems involved in controlling and managing the mission.
• Gathering digitizer requirements for various mission customers: The engineer should engage with mission customers to collect detailed requirements for digitizers. Understanding the unique needs of each mission customer will help design a tailored solution that meets or exceeds their expectations.
• Performing a market survey to identify vendors with devices that can potentially support the mission: The engineer should conduct an in-depth market survey to identify vendors with devices that meet the mission's requirements. This survey should include a wide range of vendors such as Midwest Microwave, BAE Systems, DRT, Rincon, Apogee, and others to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of available options.
• Characterizing available devices for performance: After identifying potential vendors, the engineer should assess and characterize the performance of their devices. This characterization will involve testing and evaluating the devices based on various parameters, including sensitivity, dynamic range, linearity, and noise figure, to determine their suitability for the mission.
• Collaborate with existing teams to design the new architecture: The engineer should work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including hardware, software, and systems engineers, to design the new architecture for the satellite earth terminal. This collaboration will ensure a holistic approach to system design and optimize the overall performance and efficiency.
• Perform a feasibility study to determine benefits and risks: The engineer should conduct a feasibility study to evaluate the potential benefits and risks associated with the new architecture. This study will help stakeholders understand the impact of the proposed changes and make informed decisions.
• Perform a cost comparison for large and expeditionary sites: The engineer should compare the costs of implementing the new architecture at large sites and expeditionary sites. This cost comparison will help stakeholders understand the financial implications of the modernization and allocate resources accordingly.

The incumbent performs design analyses and calculations for mechanical projects and is responsible for the preparation of final detailed working drawings, comparative cost analysis, Request for Proposals (RFPs), and project specifications for a wide variety of facility types.
The incumbent develops complex designs and analyses utilizing advanced mechanical engineering software. The incumbent is proficient with the use of the Whole Building Design Guide (WBGD) and current AutoCAD, mechanical software, and Specs in Tact technologies, utilized for the completion of the design drawings and specifications.
Supports Asset Management for proper scope and budgeting during 1391 project development process.
The incumbent makes site investigation field trips to project sites, as required, to collect all pertinent data and refine or develop project scope by inspection of existing conditions and through meetings with sponsoring activity.
Conducts various studies, monitors project progress and prepares quarterly reports. Prepares technical reports when appropriate describing problems investigated, procedures followed, results obtained, and conclusions reached. Briefs various levels on findings and provides recommendations for problem resolution.
For projects designed by A/E contract, the incumbent prepares statements of work, government estimates of fee, develops pre-negotiation position and assists in negotiations. The engineer provides technical guidance to A/E firms regarding criteria application and unique DoD functional requirements.
Serve as the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) or as a Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) assisting the COR, in administration, oversight and performance assessment of contracts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manages an online database for all jobs.
Validates work requests, assigns preliminary estimates, and plans prioritized work packages within budget and time constraints for TYCOM approval.
Reviews work specifications, coordinates schedules with repair activities, oversees repairs, and providing input for all maintenance funding decisions.
Meets daily with the ships' crew, department heads and commanding officer.
Reviews implementation, challenges, opportunities, and resources relating to the Consolidated Ship's Maintenance Plan.
Recommend suggestions and edits to the Ship's Force if the current content does not provide accurate or complete information to determine the location.
Provides risk assessment and prioritization to the vessel's commanding officer using the approved TYCOM format of all on and off ship maintenance requirements.
Attends weekly status meetings and provides requested status information to support maintenance planning and correction maintenance recommendations.
Attends ship maintenance, repair, and assessment events to answer real-time questions surrounding logistics, maintenance scope, funding shortfalls, budgetary constraints, and mission impacts.
Develop agendas and present details on the Planning Board for Maintenance and deconflict planned and unplanned operational, schedule, and work integration issues.
Performs a weekly review and ship check, to include applicable personal observations and discussions of all assessments, planned refreshments.
Reviews the entire maintenance process.
Provide an annual prioritized list for all off-ship maintenance requirements for the development of the Maintenance and Modernization Business Plan.
Develops recommendations for authorized work packages within TYCOM established funding controls.
Provide a business case analysis in the prescribed TYCOM format when recommending changes to the business plan.
Provide funding shift recommendations for efficient execution of availabilities.
Possesses the necessary knowledge to adhere to contractual requirements for our government clients.
Performs all duties and responsibilities in a timely and effective manner in accordance with established company policies to achieve the overall objectives of this position.
Travel:
This position includes a low level of travel of 5-15% to Fleet Concentration Support areas.
Frequent underway time for sea trials, testing, inspections, ship checks, and other events as needed.
Attend ship deployments including port-to-port transfers, sea trials, mid-deployment ship checks, sister ship visits and mid-deployment voyage repairs.
Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required:
A high school diploma or GED equivalent
One of the following:
A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of four years of sailing experience as an operating engineer with at least the USCG Third Assistant Engineer License (Unlimited).
A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business or Management related field and engineering experience in the US Navy with at least two tours as a Navy Limited Duty Officer (LDO), Chief Engineer (CHENG), or Main Propulsion Assistant (MPA).
Five years of experience as a USCG licensed Third Assistant Engineer (Unlimited or higher), and with recent experience as a Port Engineer or other relevant position in naval or commercial ship repair.
Must maintain the capability to communicate with their supervisor and/or manager when not in the office. This includes using your personal equipment and services for business-related purposes. The compensation for this position includes incidental costs for work-related usage of your personal devices
Qualifications:
Must possess a valid Driver's License
Must have reliable transportation to and from various work locations.
Active DoD Secret security clearance is highly desired, however candidates who are eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance will be considered. If the selected candidate does not hold an active clearance, he/she will receive a contingent offer. A start date will be established once an interim Secret clearance is granted.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to frequently traverse stairs, fixed ladders and ladder-wells while walking ships on a daily basis.
