We are seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join our team as a contractor. This role will draw on deep underwriting expertise-including comprehensive knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, and VA guidelines-to perform continuous testing on our mortgage products.
The successful candidate will have hands-on experience interpreting and analyzing income, asset, credit, AUS, and collateral documentation, applying underwriting rules, performing income calculations and creating conditions. Leveraging this expertise, the Mortgage Underwriter will partner closely with the Sales and Product teams to identify and support product improvements and new feature development.
What you'll do:
Product Testing
Apply advanced knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, and VA guidelines to rigorously test mortgage underwriting tools and validate accuracy.
Review borrower documentation (income, assets, credit, collateral, AUS findings) and confirm the correct application of underwriting rules within the product, such as income calculator output.
Document test results thoroughly, flag discrepancies, and recommend solutions to ensure compliance with agency and investor standards.
Serve as the subject matter expert on underwriting practices, providing clarity and context to both technical and non-technical teams.
Collaboration & Communication
Translate complex underwriting requirements into clear and simple language and communicate effectively to stakeholders, both written and verbal.
Partner closely with Product to share enhancement opportunities.
Provide ongoing SME input to the Sales team.
Communicate findings and recommendations effectively to both leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, ensuring alignment across teams.
Who we're looking for: (Skill Sets and Qualifications):
3+ years of mortgage underwriting experience, including FHA and VA.
Skilled in reviewing borrower documentation (e.g., W-2s, tax returns, pay stubs, self-employment income, appraisal, title, etc).
Strong expertise in income analysis, credit evaluation, and AUS findings.
Experience testing technology products or tools is a plus.
Tech-savvy with ability to critique mortgage software and explain findings clearly.
Excellent documentation, prioritization, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:

What You Will Be Doing
- Perform a thorough analysis to ensure the quality of each loan and to determine compliance with Company and Investor guidelines.
- Perform a thorough analysis of collateral to ensure property meets investor guidelines and the appraisal quality and completeness is acceptable.
- Apply and interpret company underwriting guidelines and makes sound credit decision.
- Complete credit, analysis of income, analysis of property, ensures proper audits are completed and verifies consistency of loan file information.
- Identify risk factors within each loan and utilizes resources, tools and documentation to detect red flags and clear inconsistencies.
- Review and evaluate credit information on mortgage loan documents to determine acceptability for specific loan programs.
- Determine any conditions, stipulations or pre-funding requirements.
- Maintain ongoing knowledge of investor guidelines, updates and trends as applicable to underwriting position.
- Complete second signature underwriting review on loan files underwritten by junior underwriters and within designated authority as needed.
- Possess excellent computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

What we're looking for:
AmeriSave is currently seeking a Lock Desk Analyst to join our winning team.
This is a remote opportunity to work from home. The schedule is Monday - Friday, 9:30am - 6:30pm EST.
What You'll Do:
* Lock loans with investors and internal LOS; research and complete re-locks; revise lock and extension request in a timely and professional manner
* Manage the Lock Desk queue in a timely manner by providing support to Loan origination units as needed
* Enforce AmeriSave Rate Lock Policy while working closely with Loan Officers and Operations Staff
* Aid production support staff in challenging pricing situations such as High-Cost exceptions, HPML credits, etc.
* Offer solutions and work with the Lock Desk Manager and Information Technology Team to maintain accuracy of internal pricing engine to improve system processes and performance
* Process requests and lock cancellations with investors
What You'll Need:
* 1+ years of Pricing / Lock Desk Support experience
* 3+ years of general Mortgage experience.
* Working Knowledge of secondary mortgage market framework- Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and FHA/VA mortgage programs. Non-agency product knowledge is a plus; jumbo, heloc, heloan, DSCR, DPA Assistance, Renovation, personal lending
* Able to deal effectively while being courteous to external and internal clients across department and locations
* Strong critical thinking and math skills
* Microsoft Office applications experience required. SQL knowledge is a plus
* Detail oriented with ability to work in fast-paced environment
