A Consumers Energy utility economic developer is responsible to win new, and support the growth of, business customers. This professional will provide internal and external leadership for load growth opportunities thru technical project coordination, resulting in positive customer experience for business customers, prospects, economic development partners and other stakeholders.
The primary work location for this position will be hybrid and can be near our Battle Creek, Lansing, Grand Rapids, Flint, Saginaw, Bay City, Kalamazoo, or Jackson service center.
+ Responsible for MEDC and larger economic development projects as assigned, including oversight of project deliverables to support prospects and customers. Primary point of contact for major economic development organizations.
+ Leverages cross-functional collaboration across the company/internal stakeholders to implement and execute economic development strategy.
+ Support opportunities for load growth by leveraging relationships with state, local, regional, or internal economic development stakeholders as well as site consultants and/or other industry associations.
+ Lead internal and external teams in process and policy improvements to support Company breakthrough goals of financial performance and exceptional customer experience.
+ Support state and local business attraction efforts, including the site selection process, to increase load growth thru rate competitiveness and utility infrastructure readiness.
+ Support state and local business retention efforts by improving customer experience of growing businesses in our service territory.
+ Assist with all other business customer related assignments to improve competitiveness and to support improved business customer satisfaction.
+ A Bachelor's Degree is required or equivalent experience
+ 5+ years of experience
+ Previous experience in a customer focused account management role, working with/for an economic development organization, or previous direct utility or project support experience with Consumers Energy's economic development team is required.
+ Utility knowledge and/or experience, including the technical topics of infrastructure, process management or rates, is preferred.
+ Previous experience in a customer experience focused, project management role is preferred.
+ Previous experience working for an economic development organization and/or project-based engagement with Consumers Energy's economic development team is preferred.
+ Ability to communicate technical and/or utility information to external stakeholders.
+ Project and team management skills.

Economic Development Manager serves as a project contact for load growth opportunities, as well as a liaison to economic development stakeholder satisfaction, both internal and external. Expected to consistently provide an excellent customer experience, as well as represent customer needs and goals within the Company to ensure quality. In addition, should build relationships with stakeholders to encourage new and repeat load growth opportunities. Responsible for conflict resolution and compliance on client deliverables and revenue. Reviews all major deliverables to ensure quality standards and client expectations are met. Ensures that client issues are dealt with in an efficient manner, informing the management of any problems that may arise. Works closely with the project team to maintain a continuous knowledge of project status to identify potential issues and/or opportunities within or related to the project. Ensures that all processes and procedures are completed, quality standards are met. Aware and in pursuit of opportunities for load growth and new business. Communicates the client's goals and represents the client's interests to the Company. Provides regular two-way communication between the client and Company, to provide strong representation and sets proper client expectations. Understanding of company capabilities and service, and effectively communicates offerings to the client.
