Department Summary

The Low Voltage Distribution (LVD) Design department at Consumers Energy produces quality, expert and efficient design services within scope and on-time to internal and external clients, to provide safe and reliable electric service to our customers. LVD Design is responsible for utility electrical distribution designs 25kV and below, from distribution substation exits to the customer meter.

Job Description/Responsibilities

Primarily responsible for electric design on the Low Voltage Distribution (LVD) system. The LVD Design Technician will design projects as required through the Customer Energy Management department for new business and LVD Planning department for system improvement.

CEM includes customer Project Coordinators and LVD Planning includes Planners. These are the two main internal clients of the LVD Design department. Designs flow to Scheduling (and then to Field Construction) for execution in partnership with LVD Planning and CEM.

Additionally, the LVD Design Technician role may serve as the Third-Party Coordinator. That is, the LVD Design Technician is the company representative in negotiations with cities, townships, villages, and engineering firms regarding road relocations, storm sewer rebuilds, bikes paths, and any other governmental agency projects. This activity requires meeting with agencies and negotiating the extent of this work in order to minimize Consumers Energy's investment.

Key Responsibilities in this area include:

* Design various new business projects, including line extensions (primary, secondary) and services of various degrees of difficulty and customer types (residential, commercial, industrial, developments)
* Design electric distribution systems for customer relocation, capacity projects, system failures, reliability projects, and grid modernization.
* Design in a CAD system
* Identify other pole attachments
* Work with the Right of Way department to negotiate with customers in obtaining easements
* Work with Permitting department to procure permits from governmental agencies
* Track projects in spreadsheets and/or databases
* Design projects and order materials in SAP
* Communicate work to internal departments (LVD Planning, CEM, Forestry, Long and Short Range Scheduling, Field/Construction, Closeout, etc.)
* Obtaining field notes outdoors, and at times, work in remote areas on uneven terrain and/or in difficult-to-access locations

Requirements/Qualifications

* A 2-year Associate Degree in a scientific or technical field or 48 scientific or technical credit hours as measured on a semester basis. The 48 scientific or technical credit hours can be obtained through colleges, technical institutes, licensed apprenticeship programs, trade schools, military programs, etc.
* Degree requirement may be waived if the applicant has extensive experience (4+ years) in lieu of education.

* 1 1/2+ years of applicable experience
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Ability to work as an independent contributor with minimal supervision
* A valid driver's license
* The LVD Design department assists with storm and emergency restoration activities and includes both office and field assignments; employees must be willing to work additional hours as necessary to assist with storm restoration activities

The Impact You'll Make

The Product Owner will support the product life cycle process to meet company goals by translating product roadmap features into well-defined requirements for our development team to bring to life. You will have the opportunity to craft dynamic experiences for customers to help them successfully complete transactions while discovering new content and programs that benefit both themselves and the environment. Perform complex engineering analysis, design support and administrative tasks related to non-standard commercial and industrial meter stands. This may involve the installation of new stands, or the modification of existing stands. Provide technical support for Operations on existing meter stands. This may impact multiple systems or programs, which require independent evaluation and coordination. Is responsible for major modification of existing operations, equipment, procedures and/or the development and implementation of new methods. He/she makes decisions and exercises technical judgment within the scope of the system or project and makes final recommendations related to complete projects or multi-discipline problems.

* Partner with various departments and customers to determine the needs for individual installations of the largest and most complex customer meter stands
* Perform engineering duties to establish design criteria and develop guidance for designers
* Host milestone meetings for stakeholders of each project
* Obtain the materials and construction resources needed to complete the work
* Maintain, collect, and apply feedback for continuous improvement
* Perform drawing document management and drawing record completeness
* Execute the 5-year plan along with other initiatives to improve the system health
* Assist in the development of SWI specific to the C&I discipline
* Mentor junior employees

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

This position may be filled as a Sr. Engineering Technical Analyst II or Sr. Engineer II based on the following qualifications:

**Department Summary**

The Real Estate Acquisition Group is responsible for acquiring all land rights for the construction, operation, and maintenance of Consumers Energy's electric, gas, renewable, and facility utility assets throughout the state of Michigan. + MISS DIG work coordination with field leaders and dispatch of orders

+ Aerial Patrol coordination and immediate dispatch response to findings (Pipeline Support)

+ Creates purchase requisitions as a backup to the scheduler - Contacts vendors for quotes and creates a purchase requisition in SAP

+ Extracts data for the daily storage availability reports and inputs rectifier reads (code work) for pipeline and storage

+ Package and ship field materials to be tested for corrosion analysis

+ Reviews regulatory paperwork for completeness prior to sending the paperwork in the Regulatory database
