Summary:

Responsibilities:
- Under the direct supervision of eye care providers, demonstrate proficiency in contact lens fitting for appropriate lens type, parameters, and materials, including but not limited to Scleral Contact Lenses and Rigid Gas Permeable.
- Provide contact lens training for patients.
- Demonstrate proficiency in refractometry, lensometry, and corneal topography.
- Performs documentation, patient education and enters charges. Assists with the flow of patient care.
- Maintains trial lens inventories to optimal levels, and triages phone calls for the contact lens department.
- Communicates effectively with patients and providers regarding contact lens fitting and billing.
- Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
Requirements:
- Minimum Required Education: High School diploma or GED. Completion of UCHealth preceptor course.
- Required Licensure/Certification: National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE), in addition to Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT). Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider.
- Minimum Experience: 2 years of sponsored on-the-job ophthalmic training or ophthalmic internship. Experience in a cataract practice and IOL ordering experience is preferred.
