SummaryDesigns and maintains production processes in an assembly manufacturing operation. Utilizing standard industrial engineering tools, design manufacturing processes, improve existing processes, and apply a costing models to establish standard costs. Continually analyze the manufacturing operation to identify opportunities for improvement and products that are not meeting established production standards. ResponsibilitiesDesigns and implements new processes and the introduction of new products / process to the factory. (NPI) Establishes cost measurements and productivity standards for the facility. Creates standard work documents of all factory processes and maintains the same. Utilizes Lean/TPS and/or Six Sigma techniques to research, identify, and test innovative concepts and eliminate waste in critical performance areas. Leads and/or participates in Kaizen events to develop and implement continuous improvement solutions. Uses appropriate data collection methods to measure process cost, and benefits of continuous improvement initiatives. Track and verify cost savings or cost justified capital projects. Performs time and motion studies to verify labor standards and create standard work documentation for production on all production lines. Develops productivity standards for production facility/distribution center teammates. Provides technical and analytical support for strategic initiatives and continuous improvement projects. Researches, tests, and communicates results of innovative concepts that can enhance performance in operations, management, and systems integration. Manages and maintains BOMs and routings in the ERP system. Understands the Engineering Change Process and helps drive effective and timely execution. Serves as a resource for various tasks such as routing updates, BOM changes/updates, artwork updates, and ECR creation and/or completion. Educational ExperienceBachelor's Degree in Engineering required, preferably with a concentration in Industrial / Systems Engineering. 1-3 years of professional experience Industrial Engineering. Preferably in a assembly manufacturing operation Lean/TPS and/or Six Sigma training preferred

The Senior Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for facilitating the successful implementation of the Continuous Improvement Program for Terumo Puerto Rico. Develop and implement standard methodologies using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools & processes to lead to QMS and product quality improvements.

The position draws on the entire spectrum of lean and continuous improvement principles and methodologies to provide operational excellence input in the establishment of significant strategic value to the organization. Working with Leadership and cross-functional teams, the position has responsibility for the management and execution of the organization's operational excellence program, developing and maintaining the resources necessary for executing the operational excellence strategy, the operational excellence training curriculum, and for providing input to managers for their associates' operational excellence development planning.

This position will lead the continuous improvement activities of support groups such as purchasing, facilities, scheduling or production. Assigns, delegates, and assists in providing Operational Excellence-related activities or projects to engineers and shop floor associates. Ensures compliance to Terumo's quality policy, rapid response to shop floor process flow issues, and assist/lead continuous improvement kaizen event activities.

The position has the responsibility for all aspects of the products manufactured/designed and equipment used at Terumo in terms of performance, safety, reliability, and quality. The work performed affects the work of section operators, quality assurance, the impression of our product on customers, and the overall cost savings/profits to the Company.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEstablishes a structured approach for the implementation of a continuous improvement program focused on the improvement of product quality, processes, and quality systems.Establishes quality improvement strategies, project goals and assess results by working with different levels of the organization and thru the creation of effective value stream maps.Develops and conducts training for Kaizen events, Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing. Able to train and coach shop floor personnel, technicians and engineers on basic Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing programs, such as Yellow Belt. Supports assessments for the consolidation of corporate and local procedures as per new Terumo Medical Corporate Directives.Sustains and monitor 5S program initiatives thru the entire organization.Improves baseline performance relative to production performance, quality, compliance, and responsiveness by delivering business results as per Terumo PR dashboard.Ensures improvement targets are consistently met or exceeded by managing Terumo PR Scorecard. Identifies improvement projects and drives to completion.Support Continuous Improvements projects thru all operation departments.Enforce Continuous Improvements culture alignment across TMC organization.Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma Black Belt certification is desirable Strong oral and written communication skills (English and Spanish) Computer Literate (Microsoft Office, Project Management, Minitab) Knowledge of quality analysis tools including Design of Experiments (DOE), Pareto Analysis, run charts, scatter diagrams, regression analysis, SIPOC diagrams, etc.Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and function effectively.Experience training, or certifications in Lean manufacturing techniques Knowledge of GMP/FDA regulations.Ability to create and work from engineering drawings.Requires strong communications skills to understand and explain complex engineering problems to non-engineering personnel.This position requires excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to effectively lead in a team environment, adaptable to change, able to manage competing priorities, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and sense of business savvy. Background ExperiencesBachelor's degree in Engineering (Industrial, or CQE preferred) required, advanced degree or process towards advanced degree is a plus. Minimum 5 years of experience in operational excellence and quality control, quality assurance, or regulatory compliance, preferably in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry.
