Contract Driver Statistics in the US

The average employee age for contract drivers is 47 years. The contract driver workforce reached a whopping 12,103 in 2020!

Among contract drivers, we discovered that 20.6% of them are women, while 75.3% are men. The most common race/ethnicity among contract drivers is White, which makes up 65.0% of all contract drivers. Comparatively, there are 16.1% of the Hispanic or Latino ethnicity and 12.5% of the Black or African American ethnicity. Contract drivers are also more likely to work at private companies in comparison to public companies. Taking it a step further, contract drivers are more likely to find a job in the transportation industry.

From where do we know all information about contract driver demographics? We analyzed 4,735 contract drivers resumes to find out what the average demographics are for the job position. Just to be clear, by demographics we mean the study of population-based factors like age, race, and sex. On top of scouring through resumes, we also took note of job proposals from employers and Census Bureau data. And guess what? We found some pretty interesting information.

The most common ethnicity among contract drivers is White, which makes up 65.0% of all contract drivers. Comparatively, there are 16.1% of the Hispanic or Latino ethnicity and 12.5% of the Black or African American ethnicity.
