Saalex is seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer in Bethesda, MD to support NSWC Carderock's requirements for engineering, IT, and technical support for data analysis, software development and modifications, control system development, IT and Information assurance (IA). The work performed will be in support of various projects related to surface ships, submarines, boats and combatant craft, air vehicles, other vehicles going through air and/or water, associated trainers and simulators from any of the above, and IT infrastructure.
Senior Control Systems Engineers research, develop, design, manufacture, and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanical devices. They work on power-producing machines such as electric generators, internal combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines. They also develop power-using machines such as refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, machine tools, material handling systems, elevators and escalators, industrial production equipment, and robots used in manufacturing.
Senior Control Systems Engineers also design tools that other engineers need for their work. Mechanical engineers rely on computers to assist them in efficiently performing computations, and by permitting the modeling and simulation of new designs as well as facilitating changes to existing designs. Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) are used for design data processing and for turning the design into a product.
Position and Location
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $112k - $169k annually (depending on experience)
Work Location: Onsite. Candidates are required to work onsite full-time in Bethesda, MD.
Qualifications
Required:
Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
Desired:
Twenty (20) years of control theory experience. The twenty (20) years of experience shall include experience in fields related to control theory and vehicle control including man-machine systems design and theory, estimation and identification, operator aiding systems, digital systems, and implementation of these systems. A minimum of five (5) of the twenty (20) years of experience shall include applications of control theory and simulation in the marine environment, specifically with reference to vehicle (as opposed to subsystem) control of submarines, conventional surface ships and advanced craft.
Security Clearance:
Active Secret clearance required. Requirements to obtain a clearance include US Citizenship, security investigation, etc.
Education/Experience:
Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.

Responsibilities
Provides technical support to the LPD Machinery SEM Lead on electrical distribution and control systems including but not limited to: power generation, electrical distribution and machinery control.
Provide general engineering/technical support for concept studies, feasibility studies, independent design reviews, In-service ship design and engineering activities, and shipboard installation support.
Assist in development, review, and update of technical sections of the Requests for Proposal (RFP) the Navy is generating for solicitation to shipyards.
Assist the programmatic and technical authority to implement DoD, SECNAV, OPNAV, and NAVSEA environmental and system safety requirements and policies.
Review Contractor delivered electrical and machinery controls products/CDRLs and provide feedback on adequacy, gaps, and issues.
Provide comprehensive, detailed, and timely communications and reports to all stakeholders.
Research, develop, coordinate, draft, and review technical documentation for new ship procurements as required.
Review, maintain, and make recommendations with regard to engineering plans, program records, technical manuals, design histories, design configurations, databases, regulatory body, and other documents.
Assess shipboard requirements and provide recommended engineering design and integration solutions, evaluate and provide inputs to shipbuilding contract documentation, and conduct engineering reviews of Shipbuilder products to ensure accuracy and compliance with the shipbuilding contract design.
Evaluate Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) for compliance with technical scope and assess engineering projections with cost and labor estimates.
Plan, coordinate and participate in Program, Ship Design, and Shipbuilder meetings and briefings.
Provide technical coordination between the Ship Program Manager, SEA 05, ISEAs, SSGC, Shipbuilder and their various OEMs, and other shipbuilding personnel.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, electrical or marine.
Minimum of 1-year professional experience in electrical, or marine engineering or relevant equivalent experience.
Experience with applicable codes and standards such as ABS NVR, OSHA, and NFPA, is preferred.
Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.

What you will do
As a senior level team member of the iMPACT Fly Team, you will be responsible for traveling 75-100% of the time to and assisting JCI Customers at all levels of building automation system programming, checkout and commissioning.

Primary Responsibilities
