The controls engineer will be responsible for upgrading, programming and the electrical design of new manufacturing equipment and integrating it into work cells. This will include investigating new design and implementing that into the original equipment and working with the engineering manager on what needs replaced or upgraded. The controls engineer will responsible for programming PLCs which include Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, Omron and Siemens from scratch along with programming their robots which are mostly Epson but there are some Fanuc, Mitsubishi, ABB and Kuka as well. Another critical component of the role will be integrating vision systems (Teledyne, Keyence, Cognex) intro their robotic industrial cells. Day to day this person will be doing a mix of project based work and supporting the maintenance technicians with any troubleshooting of electrical controls. The controls engineer will work closely with the engineering team to identify potential applications that will improve or replace outdated control systems/equipment. This position is M-F 7:30-4:30pm but can be flexible on start and end time, average of 40-45 hours a week unless a launch is happening then will be more like 50 hours a week. Controls Engineer, Level 2/3 Axis Automation is looking for career-oriented Controls Engineers to join a dynamic, tight-knit team creating custom factory automation equipment. Position Description: Controls Engineers work with peer groups, Project Managers, Mechanical Engineers, Builders, Technicians and other personnel to design, implement and document control systems for various types of automation and robotic equipment. You will be personally involved with electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic system design, simulation, PLC, HMI, robotic and peripheral device programming, machine debug and validation / buyoff as well as leading a team of engineers to do the same. Travel to customer sites for installation, startup, and support of equipment represents 10-20% of time. Position Opportunity: Controls Engineer, Level 2/3: Minimum 2 years of experience in Controls Engineering and Controls Design, with recognized technical expertise, ability to lead larger projects, interface with customers, support other team members, and be a self-starter. Responsibilities: Aid in the development of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic system designs of automated work cells. Monitor Controls timelines and consistently drive for project deadlines. Interpret customer specifications and communicate effectively to produce machinery that meets both customer and Axis Automation specifications. Follow customer dictated design and programming methodology. Ensure equipment meets industry safety guidelines. Controls design and simulation presentations with internal team, customers and suppliers. Develop well-crafted code to provide automated machinery that meets or exceeds customer efficiency demands. Provide real-time debug and runoff support for automated machinery at Axis Automation as well as customer facilities. Real-time communication with company management and project teams on developments. Professional management of customer relationships and requests. Communicate with vendors to specify and source major purchased components. Ability to work within a team and act upon constructive feedback. Create and improve upon standards and procedures for the Controls department. Support the build and electrical teams. Take project assignment and direction from Controls Engineering Manager and Controls Leads. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related engineering field strongly preferred 2+ years' experience in a Controls / automation focused role Willing to travel domestically approximately 10%-20% Programming experience with PLC, HMI, Robot (pendant and simulation programming), Motion Control, and Vision Systems Design experience with electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems Preferred software experience: RSLogix5000/500, Studio5000, TIA Portal, FactoryTalk, Ignition, ProView, AutoCAD Electrical, Robot Studio, Roboguide, Motosim, Keyence, and Cognex softwares.
