POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Electrical Engineer works closely with all aspects of the manufacturing process from the raw material to the finished product and support daily productions activities. This is a managerial position, which would include the daily supervision of plant electricians and electronic technicians as well as the management of plant construction, modifications, appropriations, and equipment installation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting directly to the Plant Engineer, the Electrical Engineer responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:
Applies electrical theory and related knowledge to test and modify developmental or operational electrical machinery, electrical control equipment, and circuitry in industrial plant setting
Oversees assembly and testing of experimental motor control devices, switch panels, transformers, generator windings, and other electrical equipment and components according to engineering data and knowledge of electrical principles
Diagnoses cause of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment and performs preventative and corrective action
Develops diagrams, drawings and specifications for modifications or expansions and directs personnel performing routine installation and maintenance duties
Plans, directs, and records periodic testing; recommends or initiates modification or replacement of equipment as needed
Directs, coordinates, develops, trains, coaches and assesses employees
Supports and encourages employees to work safely, efficiently, and effectively
Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned
In addition to the specific responsibilities listed above, the ideal candidate will possess the following:
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience plus an Associate's degree
Five to seven years of experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment
At least three years of proven supervisory experience
Working knowledge of motor controls, VFD's, DC drives, Eddy Current Systems and/or Modicon system design
Installation, set-up and programming of PLC's (Allen-Bradley)
Ability to design, modify and plot using AutoCAD software
Process control systems - set-up and program applications (Honeywell)
Instrumentation and calibration knowledge
Facility power distribution to include voltage up to 4160v, three-phase
Knowledge of building facilities (compressed air, water, hydraulics, vacuums, heating and cooling)
Knowledge of control systems and sub-systems
Must be available to work various shifts if needed and be able to work nights, weekends, and overtime to cover absences or provide additional support
Approximately 10% overnight travel

Researches, analyzes, plans and implements the control system design in accordance with product requirements as established from various sources including marketing, manufacturing, reliably, and customer specification documents. Drives distillation of system level requirements into sub-system and component level requirements.
Develops and executes comprehensive test plans, including manual and automated tests, to rigorously verify developed hardware and software against defined requirements and specifications.
Hands-on, data driven problem solving - commonly working directly with motion hardware to move development efforts forward. Assists with hardware prototype builds and troubleshooting as needed.
Documents, implements and tests applicable design requirements for production. This includes supporting transfer of relevant design output documents, recommended assembly and test instructions, and service troubleshooting support.

The Controls Engineer I will collaborate with various Engineering teams to design, model, simulate, and implement innovative control algorithms for our products. SUMMARY

Job Description
Electrical Controls Designer
As an Electrical Controls Designer, you will be responsible for designing and developing electrical control systems for a variety of projects. You will work closely with our team of engineers and technicians to ensure that our clients' needs are met and projects are completed on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare construction documents such as loop drawings, location drawings, cable reports, and I/O lists under the guidance of senior staff, using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite to produce accurate and consistent deliverables.
Learn and apply Building Information Modeling (BIM) protocols to stay aligned with evolving technology and industry best practices.
Contribute to control network design documentation, including functional descriptions and specifications for Quality Control Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers, and Distributed Control Systems.
Support the development of piping and instrumentation diagrams and instrumentation/control valve specifications while strengthening design skills.
Travel to client sites to collect field data, document existing conditions, and support new equipment start-up, building practical field experience.
Assist in preparing project proposals and estimates, gaining insight into project planning and budgeting.
Work with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate project details and develop strong collaboration skills that lead to successful client outcomes.
Collaborate with engineers and drafters to contribute to a wide range of industrial projects, from new facilities to small upgrades, while expanding technical knowledge.
- Design and develop electrical control systems for various projects, including but not limited to industrial machinery, automation systems, and process control systems
- Create detailed electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD or other design software
- Select appropriate components and materials for control systems based on project requirements

- Conduct testing and troubleshooting of control systems to ensure proper functionality and performance
- Provide technical support and guidance to project teams throughout the design and implementation process

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field

The controls designer is responsible for the creation of the control scheme to operate cooling and monitoring on medium and large power transformers. Creating schematics and wiring diagrams for customers and manufacturing purposes using control design and cad programs. Reviewing customer specifications and including standard and non-standard equipment and circuitry. Creating bills of materials for manufacturing. Troubleshooting electrical designs during manufacturing and testing. Interpret customer drawing and equipment changes and incorporate into the control scheme. Complete control component panel layouts for enclosures including relays, terminal blocks, circuit breakers, switches, wire duct and additional components. Communicate with mechanical designers, manufacturing personnel, customers and vendors.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Review customer requirement specification and interpret features into the control design.
Create schematic ladder drawings, panel layouts and point to point wiring diagrams for customer review and manufacturing process using electrical design program E3 by Zuken or alternate ECAD system.
Create bills of materials that include control enclosure, components and wire.
Prepare documentation that will assist in the mechanical design of the transformer
Incorporate revisions into design based on customer request after design review.
Designer will be responsible for troubleshooting the design during manufacturing working with manufacturing and test operators.
Research new components used in control design
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to work under minimal supervision for design questions or technical problems.

Required Education / Experience
Associate's Degree in Control circuits, equivalent training in the Armed Services or approved equivalent in the industry with minimum 3-5 years design experience.
