Summary
The Control Technician performs a variety of maintenance, modification, and repair activities in controls of all building equipment and material handling systems in the distribution centers. This includes troubleshooting and repairing AC & DC circuits, photo eye sensors, encoders, programmable logic controllers, and bar code readers.
Responsibilities
Duties are illustrative and not inclusive and may vary with individual assignments
Follow lockout-tag out procedures, confined space procedures, and other safety and environmental procedures and policies as required
Perform program changes, monitoring of PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) and PMS (Process Management Systems)
Troubleshoot issues of all Controls, Process Controllers, Control Cabinets, Power Supplies and all other field devices
Performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance activities including performing material handling equipment troubleshooting and repair; office furniture moves and setups
Completes work orders for work performed and includes parts and inventory used
Document all work order activities to follow MP2 requirements, providing detailed records of the activities performed
Ability to solve and repair low and high voltage controls including fuses, relays, wiring, contactors and power supplies from the source to the field device
Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and schematics, to include blueprints
Experience using electrical diagnostic equipment (to include digital and analog meters, and amp meters for AC/DC testing)
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 year(s) industrial maintenance experience with PLC's, conveyors, controls, and Operating Systems
Electrical experience with high and low voltage, AC and DC
Demonstrable record of strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
Knowledge of Automatic Identification systems (Laser and Camera Scanning Devices)
Strong systems or technical capability including PC software and hardware proficiency

Recommended Qualifications & Requirements

Develop, modify, and maintain PLC code-primarily Allen-Bradley (AB), with increasing work on Siemens, Omron, and Mitsubishi platforms.
Create, update, and document control logic for new equipment and system upgrades.
System Commissioning & Debug
Perform on-site commissioning, startup, and debug of automated systems.

About the Role
We are seeking a Controls Engineer to join a leading manufacturing company in the automotive industry. This role is based at a high-volume assembly facility supporting well-known vehicle products. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in controls engineering, troubleshooting, and process improvement within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
Review PLC logic and debug for proper function, error-proofing, and data collection.
Lead root cause investigations and eliminate downtime issues.
Participate in lean manufacturing initiatives (value-add, error-proof, visual factory, Kanban flow).
Review and approve electrical/controls schematics, BOMs, and mechanical drawings.
Co-develop inspection criteria, gage requirements, and control documentation.
Support problem-solving activities (7 Step, Error-Proofing, Fishbone, 5 Why, etc.).
Lead continuous improvement programs and cost savings initiatives (VA/VE, MCM).
Develop PFMEAs, operator instructions, control plans, and process flow charts.
Collaborate with quality and equipment vendors to ensure robust design, installation, and operation.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
Qualifications
3+ years of Controls Engineering experience in manufacturing/assembly.
Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
Proficiency with RSLogix 5000 and RSLinx (required).
Experience with fastener torque systems (preferred).
Familiarity with lift assists, pneumatics, barcode scanners, RFID readers, and safety equipment.
Skilled in PFMEA development, control documentation, and process flow design.
Working knowledge of gage and layout procedures.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, and VisView.
