Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Survey, GIS, and Drafting * Assist and perform field survey work which includes operating typical survey tools and equipment such as laser level, total station, GPS, and other field measuring instruments. * Assists in preparing and may perform editing of CAD drawings. * Preparing or translating collected survey data for its intended use and creating CAD surface models from survey data. * View, interpret, and organize GIS data layers. * Assist with and set construction staking. * Construction Administration * Observe and document daily construction activities on City projects. * Communicate with City contractors in the field and relay questions and concerns to the City Engineer. * Storm Water Management Technician Duties * Assist with the review plans and permits for compliance with standard storm water best management practices. * Visit construction sites, inspect, and assist with documenting compliance with the City's storm water management standards. * Assist with the preparation of storm water violation reports. * Perform storm water quality monitoring, dry-weather screening, and documentation as directed. * Gather data and assist with documenting storm and runoff events. * Gather data and assist with annual reporting requirements. * Sidewalk Inspection and Replacement Program Management * Perform annual field inspection of defective sidewalks. * Document sidewalk defects and prepare notification letters to the owners. * Prepare maps, figures, and quantities for sidewalk replacement areas. * Assist with the development of plans and specifications for annual sidewalk repair project. * Observe and document sidewalk repair activities. * Assist with final closeout documents for sidewalk repair work. * Other Office and Field Duties * Assist in the development of construction, operations, and maintenance budgets for storm water and construction projects and programs, including drainage fee calculations. * Interpret and relay City policies, standards, and regulations tactfully to the public and assist with questions relating to storm drainage, construction projects, and other technical issues. * Direct office visitors and phone calls to the appropriate source when necessary. * Assist engineering intern employees as needed. * Assist in preparing plans, specifications, and bid documents for City infrastructure projects. * Calculate and update annual City infrastructure assets and inventory database. * Perform basic traffic counting studies. * Keep informed on the latest standards, technologies, techniques, and trends in municipal storm water and construction industry through continuing education and research. * This position requires regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
