Working At Convergint

Convergint is a systems integrator in the electrical security and fire alarm system industry. The company has grown over the last few years but has made sure to keep its colleagues first and foremost. Convergint's greatest asset is its people, and it honors that value in many ways, including in how they refer to employees as "colleagues". It's this culture of feeling valued that makes Convergint such a great place to work.

Diving Into The Values At Convergint

Convergint was founded on 10 values and beliefs that are still in practice today. Everyone at the company lives and breathes the values and beliefs on a daily basis. It's what sets them apart from their competition. The list of values and beliefs is the company's secret sauce to its success.

  • "I am Convergint: I own my position on the team."
  • "I am accountable for my continuous development: A better me is a better Convergint."
  • "I have integrity: It's what I do when no one is watching."
  • "I keep everyone informed: Communication, communication, communication."
  • "I make responsible decisions: Timely, educated, and cost-effective."
  • "We expect to be our customers' best service provider: No matter what business we are in."
  • "We deliver results: period."
  • "We believe in balanced lives: family, business, community."
  • "We create a positive work environment: We recognize and celebrate the good stuff."
  • "We promote fun and laughter on a daily basis: So I got that goin' for me, which is nice!"
  • The set of values and beliefs was designed to be easy to understand while being powerful. From Day 1, Convergint committed to making decisions based off of this list. That's why the set of values and beliefs have never changed. All colleagues are held to this standard while also ensuring the executives are held accountable for using this set of ideals to manage the company.

The executives at Convergint hire like-minded people who want to join an organization that has values and beliefs in place that they live out every day. By having the right leadership in place, the company is able to carry out these values and beliefs well. In addition, the company truly believes in treating colleagues very, very well.

Convergint is a company that has grown significantly over the past 5 years. But they still find ways to make it feel like a small, family-owned company. They still treat the colleagues very well through that growth. While it's very hard to do that, they still do it every day in order to make their colleagues feel valued and appreciated.

    The Convergint Culture

    A Culture That Sells Itself

A few years back, one of the original VP's at Convergint, Ken LaChance, passed away. During the time following, stories about LaChance came flooding through. All of the stories came from various colleagues about how LaChance had helped them out in some way during a difficult time for them. Ryan Marshall, Regional Human Resources Manager, remembers hearing these wonderful stories of how well LaChance treated people.

"That type of leader exemplifies our culture," Marshall said. That's why the Ken LaChance fund was set up immediately following his passing. The nonprofit 501(c)(3) is used to help colleagues when they're in distress due to an emergency. Colleagues can donate to the fund and then the company will award grant money to the people in need.

"The fund doesn't just align with the culture at Convergint. It is the culture at Convergint," said Marshall. "We like to take care of each other at Convergint. Our culture really sells itself. People want to work in an energized company where they're treated well with great career opportunities."

The company is constantly looking for people who are passionate about what they do. At Convergint, they believe you can make a huge impact on the world and are standing by to support you in doing so. The company works hard to ensure they're providing an environment where everyone feels welcome. That's why the people who work there have different backgrounds and experiences. Communication also is important to the company. They believe in open communication across all levels. At Convergint, you'll be encouraged to step outside of your comfort zone, make good decisions, and be creative and passionate.

    Sparking A Fun Environment

Hallways That Are Filled with Laughter

At Convergint, they make sure you have enough PTO to spend a bit of time away from work. But they don't stop there. With the company's Fun and Laughter Day, colleagues are given a day off and $100 to spend on an activity with friends and family. This day is in addition to PTO and provides an opportunity to spend time doing something special.

"We still believe in fun and laughter, and we promote it every day," said Marshall. "It just shows that this culture is alive and well. Our colleagues really appreciate it." Additionally, the company hosts events every month for all of its offices. From cookouts to colleague celebrations, it's clear Convergint loves having fun.

Every year, Convergint celebrates the company anniversary in June with a day of giving back. Every company office is shut down on Convergint Social Responsibility Day. "It's the most celebrated day at Convergint," said Marshall. Every colleague volunteers at a nonprofit instead of working that day. Previous volunteer work included rebuilding a community, redoing a school's playground, fixing up a group home that was home to people with disabilities and taking the time to feed starving children. The company tries to pick different nonprofits every year.

Giving back is really important to the company. It also hosts a program called STEP Up, where top-notch security systems are donated to underserved schools. Just last year, Convergint donated systems to 17 schools that were otherwise unable to afford them. The systems to protect their students and teachers.

    The Convergint Benefits

    Perks That You'll Love

It's important to Convergint to provide colleagues with perks that make them smile. From casual Fridays to tuition reimbursement, the company really does have it all. In order to keep you up-to-date on the ever-changing tech industry, Convergint sponsors only the best training. With new products being introduced all of the time, they want their colleagues to be trained on the latest and greatest products. So the company ensures you get the certification that you need to advance your career.

The company also has a "Who Do You Love" referral program, rewarding colleagues for bringing in new colleagues. And as mentioned previously, the company really does care about giving back. With the matching grant program, colleagues are able to give back to communities or a nonprofit of their choice and the company will match whatever colleagues donate. With these perks and such a fun culture, it's easy to see why so many people are lining out the door to work at Convergint.
