Line Cook/The Dishwasher at Five Iron will support the team leader in managing all aspects of our kitchen. While the main responsibilities are listed below, the Line Cook/The Dishwasher will assist with additional tasks as directed by the team lead. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Open/close kitchen when needed.
Prepare a variety of different appetizers/entrees for guests and ensure food preparation to keep the kitchen and line fully stocked.
Wash and sanitize all pans, utensils, and dishes.
Clean, sanitize, and maintain dish machine.
Scrape, rinse, and load dishes and utensils into dish machine; unload and organize them properly.

Perform additional cleaning duties and clean food prep stations and equipment as requested.
Control and direct the food preparation process while collaborating with front-of-house staff to ensure excellent service.
Deliver a consistently high level of customer service to each guest.
Required Qualifications:
At least 1 year of experience as a line cook or in a kitchen environment preferred but not required.
Ability to work independently and with a kitchen team, dividing responsibilities and monitoring staff.
Credentials in health and safety training.
Certification that meets local requirements.
Must be flexible with hours.

PROGRAM DESCRIPITION:
BRC's Food Service Program provides nutritious meals to several of the agency's other housing and day treatment programs. The program also caters special events such as BRC graduations and reunions. The Food Service Program provides training and supervision for interns in the BRC Horizons Workforce Development program through a six-week Food Service Training program that assists trainees to obtain their NYC Food Handlers Certificate. Participants in this program are eligible for a Safe Serve certificate with additional training.

Primary Duties:

Summary of Dishwashers' Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for proper care and maintenance of the dish machine
Must keep a clean supply of dishware, glassware, silverware and adequate supply of utensils and cookware throughout the shift
Must thrive in a fast-paced work environment while adhering to cleanliness and sanitation standards for the entire kitchen and dish area

Summary of Prep Cooks' Primary Responsibilities
Follow prep lists created by chefs.
Label and stock all cooking ingredients
Complete all tasks, in order, on the prep list from the Head Chef or other kitchen manager
Washing, chopping, and sorting ingredients like fruits, vegetables, and meats
Measuring quantities of seasonings and other cooking ingredients
Adhere to all relevant nutrition and sanitary regulations and standards
Keeping track of ingredient inventory and collaborating with other kitchen and management staff to order resupply
Learn about the cooking methods and techniques employed in the kitchen
Ensuring all food items are properly stored and easily accessible
Supervising food and cooling room temperatures
Maintaining a clean, orderly, and sanitized kitchen

Position Summary
The Assistant Cook supports the Head Cook in the preparation and service of meals to senior participants. This position involves food preparation, maintaining kitchen cleanliness and safety, inventory monitoring, and ensuring compliance with NYC Department of Health and DFTA regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with meal prep for 50-80 lunches daily, following DFTA nutritional standards.
Help plan monthly menus using the Simple Servings Online Program and input from senior participants.
Maintain cleanliness of all kitchen equipment, surfaces, and storage areas.
Receive and store food deliveries and maintain invoice records.
Assist with special event food preparation.
Ensure compliance with DOHMH safety standards and assist with food safety documentation.
Attend mandatory trainings and team meetings as scheduled.
Qualifications
Valid NYC Food Protection Certificate.
High School diploma or GED.
Minimum 2 years of experience preparing group meals, preferably in a community or senior center.
CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.
Strong multitasking skills, physical stamina, and attention to cleanliness and detail.
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy items.
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Experience working with senior citizens is highly desirable.
