In 1963, Cook was simply a home-based business where Bill and Gayle Cook, founders of Cook, manufactured the first US-produced percutaneous wire guides and catheters.
In 1964, Dotter first described what is known as angioplasty.
Chosen as the first European location for Cook Medical in 1969, the Denmark facility allowed the company to grow into new markets and build collaborative and long-lasting relationships with forward-thinking physicians in Europe.
Dotter would be nominated in 1978 for the Nobel Prize for pioneering interventional radiology, a specialty that uses minimally invasive procedures to gather images of practically every organ system in the body.
Cook told an interviewer in 1980 he never expected to make much more than $1,000 a month selling his products when he started.
