Food Services Cook REPORTS TO: Manager of Food Services STATUS: Part-Time - Hourly - Non-Exempt Overview: The position of Food Services Cook works under the direct supervision of the Manager of Food Services. The Food Services Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of dishes, ensuring that food is safe, nutritious and good tasting for Coalition guests and during weather emergencies, our local community. This role requires the ability to create monthly menus, which at times require short notice adjustments due to valuable community donations, to ensure full compliance with the Homeless Children's Nutrition Program (HCNP). Food Services Cooks must have the ability to interact and communicate with Coalition technicians, other Coalition kitchen team members and community volunteers to operate a successful food service enterprise. Key Responsibilities: Prepare and cook a variety of dishes, including salads, fruits, vegetables, entrées, and desserts. Ensure that all food is of high quality and meets Coalition standards. Follow recipes and cooking techniques to ensure consistency. Prepare simple components of each dish on the menu, including chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and preparing sauces. Ensure that all meals served to children meet the nutritional requirements of the Homeless Children Nutrition Program (HCNP). Maintain a clean and organized kitchen. Diligently label and store all items in refrigerators and freezers with dates entered to ensure compliance with the FIFO (First In, First Out) strategy. Stock inventory and supplies as needed. Unload and store deliveries efficiently and safely. Collect all purchased food and nonfood receipts for required electronic data entry by the Food Service Manager. Coordinate with kitchen techs to ensure all kitchen contributions are recorded in a form to document the date and contents of food donations and filed in the designated area in the kitchen. Assist with inventory management and ordering of supplies. Collaborate with other kitchen staff and community volunteers to ensure that all meals are prepared and served within established meal times. Give direction and guidance to meal groups and volunteers to fulfill the agency's mission of providing safe, nutritious, and tasty meals. Ensure the preparation station and kitchen are set up and stocked for meal service. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in food preparation and storage areas, adhering to health and safety standards. Properly label and store leftovers. Support additional agency food/beverage requests for All Staff Meetings, board meetings, and other agency functions. Prepare dining areas and kitchen for the next shift as necessary. Sweep and mop floors, particularly in the event of spills or breakages. Qualifications: Must possess a state-recognized food handling certification (or obtain one within 30 days of employment). Compensation Salary Schedule Under direction, the purpose of the position is to function as crew leader for custodial personnel engaged in highly responsible custodial tasks for an assigned school of the district. Employees in this class are responsible for planning and accomplishing a daily routine of custodial tasks that provide school personnel, students, and the public with an environmentally safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to work and conduct school activities. Responsibility areas include, but are not necessarily limited to daily unlocking and securing of facilities, routine inspection of facilities and grounds for hazardous conditions, and maintaining adequate supply inventories. Position oversees and participates in all facets of work under charge. Performs related work as directed. Responsibilities and Qualifications EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light. Performs planning and coordination of daily custodial tasks; delegates tasks to custodial personnel under charge; monitors and inspects custodial work for compliance with assignments. Provides training and instruction to custodial personnel when weaknesses are observed; ensures compliance with established regulatory standards concerning safe use and application of chemical supplies (OSHA). Performs daily opening and securing of assigned school facility, i.e., opening gates, unlocking administration and classroom doors, inspecting grounds and facilities for hazards, turning on/off lighting and security systems. Monitors materials inventory and supply levels; orders new stock according to established policies; coordinates custodial equipment service and/or repair as required. Uses electrical cleaning equipment in the cleaning of the assigned facility during hours assigned, i.e., vacuum cleaners, shampoo machines, high speed buffers. Uses appropriate chemicals and cleaners safely and productively according to instructions and established State Department of Education regulatory to ensure personal, student, public, and staff safety. Performs custodial tasks, i.e., emptying and cleaning waste receptacles; washing windows; dusting furniture; cleaning vents, fans, walls. Performs sanitizing tasks in various facility areas, i.e., restrooms, kitchen and food areas, cafeterias. Performs physically demanding tasks requiring use of heavy custodial equipment, i.e., mopping, stripping, waxing, floor buffing. Responds to emergency situations in order to confine, resolve or prevent injurious or otherwise hazardous conditions, i.e., spills, broken windows, broken locks. Moves furniture and other equipment in the performance of duties. Cleans equipment and tools after use and maintains cleanliness and order in storage areas; reports equipment malfunctions and facility maintenance needs to immediate supervisor. Performs routine maintenance on facility custodial equipment, such as changing vacuum cleaner belts and bags, and changing buffer machine pads. Performs non-cleaning tasks in general facility maintenance, i.e., changing light bulbs, filling paper and soap dispensers, assisting in setting up for meeting/conferences. Leads custodial crews in major custodial projects, such as in seasonal facility preparations or floor stripping and waxing. Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
