Qualifications:
You must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and an American citizen or Green Card holder. You must be willing and able to work a minimum of 12 hours per day, for 7 days a week, for up to 28 weeks. Employees must be able to meet moderate physical demands including lifting, bending, climbing, and extended periods of standing or walking.
Under Federal Law and the Department of Transportation, we are required to pre-employment drug test all shipboard employees which includes testing for Marijuana and other controlled substances. To provide safe and conscientious service to our guests, the consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited. All shipboard employees also have emergency and safety functions essential to the safe operation of the ship that are included in your training.

Job Summary
Odyssey House Louisiana, Inc. is seeking a full-time Kitchen Assistant. The Kitchen Assistant position is designed to assist in all activities related to culinary operations at the agency. This position assists with all daily activities as they relate to the kitchen, product purchasing, food preparation, food and kitchen supply delivery, kitchen storage, kitchen cleanliness/maintenance, and food service.
Responsibilities and Duties
It is the duty and responsibility of the Kitchen Assistant to:
Β· assist with all kitchen related activities;
Β· assist in preparation and cooking of food;
Β· assist in the delivery of all food and kitchen supplies;
Β· assist and oversee clients assigned to work in the kitchen;
Β· direct cleaning of kitchen and food storage area;
Β· ensure that all clients and staff are compliant with safety practices related to the kitchen and kitchen equipment;
Β· conduct and document weekly inventory using agency inventory control;

Β· ensure that kitchen and food storage areas are thoroughly clean and properly maintained, and on a daily basis;
Β· report all maintenance issues immediately to the Program Manager or designee;
Β· be present for all deliveries in the absence of Kitchen Management and coordinate with the Program Manager to develop a plan to cover deliveries. All deliveries must be accepted and signed by an agency staff member;
Β· complete all incident reports, as directed by the Executive Chef or designee, prior to the end of scheduled shift as required by the Incident Reporting Policy and Procedure;
Β· assist with filing as requested by the Program Manager;
Β· assist with other program functions as requested by Program Manager;
Β· perform other duties as required.

Responsibilities
The duties performed by Culinary Specialists include:
Preparing menus and ordering the quantities and types of food items necessary to prepare meals.
Operating kitchen and dining facilities.
Maintaining subsistence inventories and financial records.
Serving as personal food service specialists in commanding officers and admirals messes.
Operating and managing shipboard living quarters and shore-based hotel-type quarters.
Serving as a flight attendant aircrewman.
What to Expect

Work Environment

CSs can earn college credits through the American Council on Education for courses taken in this rating. Additionally, the United States Naval Community College (USNCC) offers degree
