2027 2L Summer Program Opportunities
McDermott is seeking 2L summer associates to join us for our 10-week 2027 Summer Associate Program. Our program offers summer associates a realistic introduction to the practice of law and day-to-day life as a McDermott associate. The summer associate program provides meaningful responsibility and feedback that is consistent with a junior associate experience. 2027 Summer Associates will receive weekly compensation of $4,326, less applicable taxes and withholdings.
As part of the application and interview process, applicants are asked to indicate their primary practice area(s) of interest. Throughout the summer program, summer associates will primarily receive assignments from their designated practice area but will also have the opportunity to explore assignments from other groups. With the exception of our Intellectual Property group, McDermott does not hire summer associates into specific practice areas. However, our first-year associates are placed into practice areas. Therefore, we seek to align summer associates' general practice interests with local office practice representation.

The Career Coaching & Services (CC&S) Manager provides individualized coaching support to the Firm's current attorneys, attorney-alumni, and select members of the Firm's professional network as they define and pursue their professional goals (career advancement and/or transition). This position assists the Global Director of Career Coaching & Services with aspects of program administration, development, execution, and services as a visible ambassador for the CC&S program to key stakeholders, clients, and external business partners.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
* Conduct individualized coaching sessions with, and be responsive to emails from, individual CC&S clients, employing International Coaching Federation (ICF) Core Competencies to provide support and, where appropriate, guidance as they define and pursue their professional goals
* Career Advancement: obtain and exercise deep familiarity with the Firm's practices, people, resources, and expectations and help clients leverage each as appropriate in pursuit of their goals
* Career Transitions: support exploration of next steps on the client's career path; provide guidance on job search strategies, creation of personal marketing materials (including cover letters, resumes, deal sheets, and business plans), interview preparation, and compensation discussions; assist with leveraging Firm relationships and resources in support of searches
* Collaborate with the Global Director of Career Coaching & Services to develop and launch new initiatives for the CC&S program, including those meant to address gaps or common issues faced by CC&S clients
* Collaborate with representatives from other key areas within the Firm, including Alumni Relations, Business Development, JDEI, Professional Development, and Wellbeing, to create and/or enhance offerings to CC&S clients specifically and the Firm's attorneys and attorney-alumni generally

* Support the maintenance of CC&S databases and identify opportunities to enhance existing databases, reports, and resources

Job Specifications:
* Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor degree with a minimum of five (5) years of experience practicing law in either private practice or inhouse

In addition to technical management, this role is instrumental in leading a team of experts, shaping our technological direction, and ensuring our lawyers, paralegals, and business professionals have the advanced tools they need to serve our clients and drive the business of law.
The Director of Technology Platforms & Applications is responsible for a wide-ranging portfolio and lead the teams that span our enterprise business systems, as well as applications supporting general, commoditized needs across practice areas and administrative departments. The Director of Technology Platforms & Applications is also responsible for a firmwide portfolio of core technology workflow and collaboration platforms from the Document Management System to ServiceNow to the Firm's intranet and workflow systems including low-code/no-code, while shaping and driving a program of responsible enterprise AI initiatives. This role is also responsible for managing a significant annual budget, overseeing vendor relationships, and acting as a strategic partner across the firm, driving continuous improvement and growth. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Strategic Leadership & Management
Lead and mentor a team of Associate Directors by example, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, Technology Service Management and continuous improvement across their teams
Recruit, develop and retain top talent in all areas with clear roles and responsibilities, establishing key goals and performance indicators
Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for our application and platform portfolio, ensuring alignment with the firm's business goals and measures with clear KPIs
Manage a $10-twelve million annual budget, making strategic decisions to maximize technology value
Ensure compliance with all firm and department policies
Operations & Technology Oversight
Provide strategic oversight for all business-of-law applications, including finance and marketing, and toolsets which support commoditized eDiscovery and Intellectual Property services
Drive the modernization and effective usage of our core enterprise platforms, including but not limited to our Document Management System, SharePoint Intranet, Microsoft Teams and Box.com
Ensure a best-of-breed, center of excellence for database engineering, with redundant, scalable services for Microsoft SQL and other needed database functions
Coordinating with Practice Innovation, drive the responsible use of enterprise AI across the firm in accordance with firm policy, enabling lawyers, paralegals and business professionals to be more efficient and productive
Portfolio, Project & Vendor Management
Maintain a clear line of sight into top initiatives across teams, proactively identifying risks and raising concerns with leadership, along with proposed action plans when necessary
Work collaboratively with the Firm Operations to ensure successful project execution and outcomes
Manage and negotiate vendor contracts, holding vendors accountable to agreed upon terms and service level agreements
Collaboration & Communication
Build strong, trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Partner with peers across Technology & Security, Firm Projects and Procurement and Practice Innovation to improve ways of working and deliver measurable outcomes
Synthesize and present complex technical information and ideas to diverse audiences with clarity and supporting data
