This growing and innovative program provides advanced care to patients with complex cardiac conditions. The Physician Assistant will support the inpatient service, providing comprehensive care including assessments, consultations, history and physicals, and order entry. Candidates should have at least three years of cardiac experience and be proficient in EPIC. The role offers flexibility with up to three shifts per week, with a minimum commitment of two shifts per month. Shifts are 8 or 12 hours, available during evening or nighttime hours. Key Responsibilities: * Patient Evaluation & Management: * Perform thorough history and physical examinations on trauma and surgical patients. * Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests and imaging studies. * Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising surgeons. * Assist in the initial resuscitation and stabilization of trauma patients in the Emergency Department (ED). * Manage preoperative and postoperative care of surgical patients. * Perform invasive procedures such as central line placement, chest tube insertion, wound care, and suturing as delegated. * Surgical Assistance: * Assist in operative procedures, including trauma surgeries and acute care surgery (general surgery) under the direct supervision of the surgeon. * Ensure compliance with sterile techniques and operative protocols. * Documentation and Communication: * Accurately document patient encounters, procedures, and treatment plans in the electronic medical record (EMR). * Communicate effectively with patients, families, surgeons, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals. * Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, trauma team meetings, and case reviews. * Education and Training: * Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and postoperative care. * Participate in trauma education, and quality improvement initiatives/meetings. * Assist in the training and supervision of students, residents, and other APP's. * Other Duties: * Maintain certification and licensure according to state and institutional requirements. * Comply with hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations. * Depending on the discipline of the APP - appropriate state administrative codes and AtlantiCare Bylaws, Rules and Regulations will apply and could vary in that discipline (NP v. PA). QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Master's degree required. Completion of an accredited nurse practitioner or physician assistant (associate) program is also required. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: The candidate must be board-certified as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant and licensed by the State of New Jersey. The candidate must also be credentialed as an allied health practitioner with AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS Demonstrates the ability to perform the department specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
