Short Description
The Vascular Technologist performs studies ordered by physicians, keeping accurate records and ensuring equipment is in proper working order through the Biomedical department. All studies are performed according to department policy and procedures which are ICAVL accredited. Performs QA quarterly and assists with reaccreditation.
Experience Required
3-5 years experience in Vascular department.
Education Requirements
High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
License/Certification Requirements
Current NJ-ARRT License (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)
OR
Current NJ-RVT Certification (Registered Vascular Technologist)
BLS (Basic Life Support)

includes:
Performs procedures according to departmental format, completing exam in allotted time.
Performs required daily clerical duties, which include the use of EPIC, PACS, Teletracking System, computer system, patient scheduling, and other computer systems as added by Medical Center.
Performs portable ultrasound exams.
Performs a variety of complex technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound. Assist physicians with Ultrasound guided Interventional procedures, and color-flow ultrasound as required.
Determines, prepares, and sets up medical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
Prepares patients for diagnostic procedures, explain procedures, measures and position patients for each anatomical view.
Evaluates technical quality of images. Obtains and processes images of pathogenic conditions in accordance with standard procedures or techniques.
Maintains records of ultrasound taken, archiving and de-archiving data as required. Calculates, compiles, and records data from numerical readings on patient's charts and related documents.
Calibrates, cleans, and performs routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning. Cleans and sterilizes instruments, supplies, and equipment. Stocks and replenish supplies as required.
Provides technical assistance and instruction to students, employees, and medical residents.
Greets all patients when they arrive for their exam utilizing A.I.D.E.T. standards.
Responsible for scheduled shifts including holidays and weekends.
Overtime as needed to provide continual quality patient care.
On call assignments as needed per Department of Radiology policy.
Adheres to the policies of Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality.
Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and /or visually impaired, etc.). The Breast UltrasoundTechnologist is responsible for performing a variety of specialized technical tasks in Breast Care utilizing high frequency sound waves to assist medical and professional personnel in detecting anatomical abnormalities of the breast.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Breast UltrasoundTechnologist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
1. Performs procedures according to departmental format, completing exam in allotted time.
2. Performs required daily clerical duties, which include the use of Epic, computer system, patient scheduling and other computer systems added by the Medical Center.
3. Performs a variety of complex technical tasks in utilizing high frequency sound waves to detect anatomical abnormalities including masses and abscesses in accordance with prescribed sonographic procedures.
4. Identifies patient's images with the correct name, MRN and that images are correctly marked to the breast side and that all images have Technologist's initials
5. Assist Radiologist with biopsy studies and color-flow ultrasound as required.
6. Determines, prepares and sets up medical supplies, instruments and equipment.
7. Prepares patients for diagnostic procedures, explains procedures, measures and positions patients for each anatomical view.
8. Performs portable breast imaging on ER and inpatients as needed.
9. Responsible for interviewing and discharging patients after their procedure.
10. Ensures proper labeling of specimen bags
11. Evaluates technical quality of images.
12. Obtains and processes images of pathogenic conditions in accordance with standard procedures or techniques.
13.Maintains records of ultrasound taken, archiving and de-archiving data as required.
14. Calibrates, cleans and performs routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning.
15. Cleans and sterilizes instruments, supplies and equipment. Stocks and replenish supplies as required.
16. Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs. and stands a minimum of 8 hours a day.
17. Greets in/out patients when they arrive for their exam utilizing A.I.D.E.T. standards.
18. Responsible for scheduled shifts including holidays and weekends.

• Consistently performs high quality Ultrasound studies for our various patient populations according to protocols established by Radiologists/designated specialist; this includes perinatal sonography to high risk maternity patients. Demonstrate ability to recognize and accurately document pathology identified in scans. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of Ultrasound equipment. Performs a preliminary evaluation for each patient. Obtains pertinent medical history prior to exam; obtains previous examinations and reports. Reviews and verifies physician's orders.
• Responds to changes in the work schedule. Covers all shifts on a rotational basis and responds immediately on call when contacted by Communications and arrives within the appropriate time established by Virtua Health policy.
• Demonstrates appropriate and effective use of RIS and hospital based computer programs and adheres to all policies and practices regarding confidentiality of all electronic communications.
• Prepares room as needed for biopsy exams; familiar with all equipment utilized for biopsy exam Assists and scans, as needed, during biopsy procedure. Assists in inter-operative biopsy procedures; responds to OR in timely manner.
Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required:
Experience preferred in abdominal, obstetrical, small parts, and vascular imaging.
Required Education:
Formal education in Diagnostic Ultrasound Program (RDMS program graduate for MFM area).
Training/Certifications/Licensure:
ARDMS certification or registry eligible, must be licensed within two years of employment.

The Breast UltrasoundTechnologist is responsible for performing a variety of specialized technical tasks in Breast Care utilizing high frequency sound waves to assist medical and professional personnel in detecting anatomical abnormalities of the breast.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Breast UltrasoundTechnologist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
* Performs procedures according to departmental format, completing exam in allotted time.
* Performs required daily clerical duties, which include the use of Epic, computer system, patient scheduling and other computer systems added by the Medical Center.
* Performs a variety of complex technical tasks in utilizing high frequency sound waves to detect anatomical abnormalities including masses and abscesses in accordance with prescribed sonographic procedures.
* Identifies patient's images with the correct name, MRN and that images are correctly marked to the breast side and that all images have Technologist's initials
* Assist Radiologist with biopsy studies and color-flow ultrasound as required.
* Determines, prepares and sets up medical supplies, instruments and equipment.
* Prepares patients for diagnostic procedures, explains procedures, measures and positions patients for each anatomical view.
* Performs portable breast imaging on ER and inpatients as needed.
* Responsible for interviewing and discharging patients after their procedure.
* Ensures proper labeling of specimen bags
* Evaluates technical quality of images.
* Obtains and processes images of pathogenic conditions in accordance with standard procedures or techniques.
* Maintains records of ultrasound taken, archiving and de-archiving data as required.
* Calibrates, cleans and performs routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning.
* Cleans and sterilizes instruments, supplies and equipment. Stocks and replenish supplies as required.
* Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs. and stands a minimum of 8 hours a day.
* Greets in/out patients when they arrive for their exam utilizing A.I.D.E.T. standards.
* Responsible for scheduled shifts including holidays and weekends.
* Overtime as needed to provide continual quality patient care.
* Identifies the needs of the patient population served, modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture,language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc. ) This process includes communicating with the patient, parent and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.)
* Adheres to the policies of Employee ID, Standards of behavior, Attendance, Punctuality and Organizational Competencies.
* Performs other duties as directed by supervisory personnel.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
* Graduate of an approved Ultrasound School.
* A.R.D.M.S registered.
* A minimum of 2 years training in Allied Health/College.
* Certified in Breast within 6 months of hire.
* Must be able to do CPR.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
* A minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in ultrasound.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
* Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certification or Breast Sonography Certification within 6 months of entering position.
* Maintains 30 CEU Credits within a three year period.

Maintenance of equipment/supplies, maintains paperwork associated with job function.
Maintains work area.
Participates in clinical activities (i.e. assists with patient flow/care, performs various testing, assists provider etc.)
Participates in clerical activities (i.e. registration, scheduling, filing, telephones, pulling/preparing charts, faxing, Xerox forms/ charts, fills out forms.
Participates in Departmental On Call Requirements.
Experience Required
General, Vascular, portables, 1 year experience preferred.
ARDMS eligible.
Education Requirements
Associate degree or Equivalent.
Graduate of an accredited Sonography school or program of Sonography.
License/Certification Requirements
ARDMS Certification Requirements: Candidates must obtain ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) certification within six months of their hire date.
Eligibility for the six-month grace period: Applicants must have successfully completed the Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SPI) exam. Documentation of a passing grade for the SPI exam is required as a prerequisite for approval of the six-month period to obtain the ARDMS certification.
Expected to acquire RVT certification within 12 months of their hire date.
*Departmental extensions on a case-by-case basis based on job performance.
Expected training in elastography, thyroidectomies, pediatrics (echoencephalography, hips, spines), PVRs, TCDs, GYN exams, and all vascular exams (arterial and venous duplexes, dialysis grafts, extremity mappings, carotids, abdomen venous, etc)
