Monitor production processes to ensure product consistency and quality and drives corrective actions as necessary.
Independently release raw and finished materials to the production floor.
Develop and maintain complete and accurate written records and process documentation for new and existing products, processes and improvements to existing products and/or processes.
Focus on increasing process efficiency by actively participating in, or leading continuous improvement activities through research, benchmarking and identification of improved methods or tools.
Maintain and/or improve material properties and performance by providing feedback and direction to operations team based on data from raw materials, in-process testing and finished material characterization.
Employ a structured approach to define objectives, track/communicate progress and verify results.
Collect and correlates production data to identify result discrepancies. Analyzes the data and makes recommendations to support and drive continuous improvements
Ability to interpret/analyze tests results to improve methodology and performance of ceramic products.
In depth knowledge and application of material characterization and analytic test methods, including (but not limited to) particle size/surface area analysis, comminution, powder properties, compaction-shrinkage behavior, chemistry and microstructural evolution.
Effectively utilize SPC tools (i.e. control charts, DOE's, etc.) to maintain and improve product and process quality.
Work with internal customers to understand their process capabilities and helps identify critical material parameters.
Actively engage with raw material suppliers to ensure product quality and consistency
Support in the development/qualification of new formulations and raw materials to meet product and/or customer (internal/external) needs.
Work closely with internal customers and manufacturing personnel to provide technical support and timely initial response on material related issues.
Comply to and champion improvements to established safety protocols including material handling, PPE, and proper material disposal & documentation.
Job Requirements:
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Ceramic, Materials Science or other related field.
Minimum 3 years' related materials engineering experience.

Working knowledge of nitride and non-oxide raw material properties.
Prior experience with precursor ceramic and solvent processing and equipment is preferred.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Optical, Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, Physics) or exceptional industrial experience in closely related technologies.
3+ years of experience in process or product development of laser components, sub-systems, fiber optics, precision optical/electro-mechanical assemblies.
Knowledge and understanding of optical fibers, fiber assemblies and termination, optics, laser diodes and a variety of metrology/characterization/failure analysis techniques.
Hands-on working experience with optical fibers, lasers, optics and precision opto-mechanical systems and tools.
Strong record of problem solving and data analysis through structured methodologies in high order multi-dimensional spaces
Situational leadership skills and ability to work with cross functional & multi-site teams effectively.
Strong command of electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, basic tooling, and fixture design.
Understanding of new product introduction, qualification, and product lifecycle process.
ASQ Six Sigma Green Belt.
