Issues ABN forms as needed. * Complete Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire (MSPQ) for Medicare beneficiaries. * Verify insurance eligibility and benefits through eligibility systems or contacts insurance companies by phone, fax, online portal, and other resources to determine extent of coverage within established timeframe before scheduled appointments and during or after care for unscheduled or emergent patients. * Calculate patients' co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance. Provide patients with personalized estimates of their financial responsibility based on their insurance coverage prior to service for both emergency and outpatient services. * Attempt to collect patient cost-sharing amounts (e.g., co-pays, deductibles) and outstanding balances prior to service and post payments. * Ensure compliance with state and federal laws regarding all aspects of role. * Proficient and able to function in all Registration environments. * Mentor staff and assist with training new staff on department specific procedures and applications. * Daily reconciliation of payment collections, preparation of bank deposits, and petty cash distribution. Work Experience MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Education:High School diploma or equivalent. * Work Experience: 1year customer service experience. * Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, organizational and communication skills, excellent customer service skills.     Job Requirements The Patient Financial Advocate position will be responsible for supporting patients and families by answering questions regarding their insurance benefits and providing them with their out-of-pocket cost responsibility. This position helps access financial resources for pharmaceutical copays, obtain free medication and/or apply for grants through not-for-profit organizations. PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES * Develop an understanding of current health insurance and medical prescription benefit coverage and apply that knowledge to support patient care. * Cultivate relationships with patient assistance programs to secure funding for medications and treatments, e.g., manufacturer programs and/or other assistance program's relationships. * Serve as a liaison between patients, physicians, advocacy funded programs and other financial assistance programs. * Assist with program enrollment and process applications by completing applications with patient information with complete confidentiality. Enroll members on-site or by calling patients or designated family members. * Serve as a liaison between the business office and patients for all billing questions and concerns. * Address problems and concerns related to medical and/or other financial needs for patients and families.
