Cornerstone University company history timeline

1941

7, 1941, in Wealthy Street Baptist Church.

1963

In 1963, the Bible Institute became a four-year Bible college and seminary.

1964

In 1964, Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College and Seminary moved to a 64-acre campus which has since expanded to 132 acres.

1969

The college was chartered by the Virginia State Corporation Commission on September 2, 1969.

1970

The institute was granted tax exemption by the Federal Government in 1970 and tax deduction of contributions by the Internal Revenue Service.

1972

In 1972, the college was approved by the State of Michigan as a degree-granting college of arts and sciences.

1973

They began broadcasting WCSG in June 1973, with an easy listening and fine arts format.

1975

The State Government gave the institute tax exemption on textbook sales in 1975.

1983

The Veterans Administration approved the institute to provide educational benefits beginning August 23, 1983.

1993

Professional & Graduate Studies (PGS) at Cornerstone University began in 1993 as an avenue for adult students to finish their undergraduate and graduate degrees and fulfill their lifelong calling.

In 1993, it absorbed the Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music.

1999

On July 1, 1999, following approval by the State of Michigan, Cornerstone College and Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary became Cornerstone University.

2003

In June 2003, the graduate theological school became Grand Rapids Theological Seminary.

2008

Doctor Brown went to heaven to be with the Lord on January 31, 2008, and his presidential leadership was passed to Doctor Gary Foss.

2016

The Fredericksburg Bible Institute and Seminary Board of Directors voted Doctor Richard (Dick) Barnett as president in 2016.

2020

In 2020 he developed a new scholarship program, the Gary Foss Memorial Scholarship, which affords merit-based full associate’s degree scholarships to students.
