Contour Aviation company history timeline

1982

In January 1982, FAA publicly released the first annual National Airspace System (NAS) Plan, a comprehensive 20-year blueprint for a state-of-the-art traffic control and air navigation system to accommodate projected growth in air travel.

Contour Airlines is the regional airline brand of Contour Aviation, based in Smyrna, TN. Contour Aviation was founded in 1982 as Corporate Flight Management, a private jet charter company.

1984

FAA and PASS concluded their first national labor agreement during fiscal year 1984.

1987

In the aftermath of the strike, PATCO disbanded and the controllers remained without a union until June 19, 1987, when the National Air Traffic Controllers Association became the exclusive representative of terminal and center controllers.

1988

The Aviation Safety Research Act of 1988, for example, mandated greater emphasis on long-range research planning and on study of such issues as aging aircraft structures and human factors affecting safety.

1990

Recognizing the utility of jet travel, Grand Trunk Railroad purchased Corporate Flight in 1990 to satisfy internal and external travel needs.

1991

In February 1991, FAA replaced the NAS Plan with the more comprehensive Capital Investment Plan.

Due to regulations pertaining to ownership of a United States aircraft charter company by an international entity (Canada), Grand Trunk sold the company to Corporate Flight’s present owners in 1991.

1998

His aviation career began with ExpressJet Airlines in 1998.

2000

On April 23, 2000, FAA transferred approximately 6,500 employees into the core compensation system.

In April 2000, President Clinton signed into law the Wendell H. Ford Aviation Investment and Reform Act for the 21st Century, which contained a provision mandating the appointment of a chief operating officer.

2002

He has been featured in both online and print publications such as Entrepreneur, Fortune Small Business, and USA Today and in 2002 was ranked the #6 on the list of Top 100 Young CEOs in America by Y&E magazine.

2004

The ATO officially began operations on February 8, 2004.

2005

2006

In June 2006, he instituted a new ATO Service Center structure.

2007

With the ATO structure in place, the agency's first COO resigned from FAA on February 23, 2007.

2016

Matt joined Contour in 2016 after spending six years managing a part 61 flight school and assisting in the operation and management of a part 135 charter operation in New York.
