ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Employ special education strategies and techniques to provide quality instruction that results in the students' advancement of their academic progress on the approved curriculum and that promotes social and emotional growth
Demonstrate knowledge of academic subjects and the ability to effectively teach content area while using the approved curriculum
Communicate in a professional manner with parents/guardians about students' academic and behavior progress prior to interims, end of reporting periods or as needed
Create and implement lesson plans that utilize a variety of teaching methods, including the use of technology, direct instruction, independent study and group learning, in order to engage students and actively encourage student participation; submit lesson plans within set guidelines
Demonstrate the ability to adapt classroom environment, activities, teaching styles, behavior management practices and lesson plans to meet the needs of students with varying academic levels and learning styles
Establish expectations for learning and set classroom structure to encourage student participation and appropriate behavior
Use formal and informal observation and assessment tools to determine students' needs, and adjust interventions and practices to accommodate those needs; evaluate instructional effectiveness, document, and make modifications based on data, reflection, and feedback
Provide a safe, structured, creative, and engaging classroom that is conducive to learning
Maintain an accurate classroom instructional inventory at all times
Demonstrate knowledge of special education laws and regulations including IDEA, FERPA, COMAR, and DCMR
Participate in the development and monitoring of students' IEPs, BIPs, and FBAs including completion of required documentation within set guidelines
Grade students' work, document students' work in grade books, and complete grades within deadlines
Attend and actively participate in IEP meetings, reentry meetings, and other meetings with parents/guardians, students or county representatives; report accurately on student academic progress
Act as the lead in the classroom by providing guidance and direction to program assistants and dedicated aides assigned to their classroom
Demonstrate an understanding of how our students' disabilities impact their behavior and ability to learn; display knowledge of students' diagnoses and adapt intervention strategies accordingly to meet the requirements of the students' IEPs and BIPs
Effectively manage and document student behavior through implementation of behavior management systems, school rules, policies, and procedures; model appropriate behavior for students during the school day
Proactively identify behaviors among all students that could lead to a crisis, an unsafe situation or disrupt the learning environment; use effective behavior management techniques to address these behaviors in order to limit the severity and length of disruptions
Proactively provide supervision of students to ensure the safety and security of the school program at all times
Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with The Foundation Schools Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest Statement and student record confidentiality procedures
Demonstrate appropriate use of verbal de-escalation skills to manage student behaviors; utilize the behavior continuum in order to use or consider the use of the least restrictive behavioral interventions necessary; use effective, appropriate, and approved strategies during a crisis including the participation in seclusions, therapeutic holds, escorts, and student restraints when necessary; consistently, and appropriately utilize and model TACT 2 techniques or classroom behavior management strategies
Work with other teachers, therapists, school leaders, and other team members to determine the student and/or classroom needs and adjust interventions and practices to best meet those needs; work with team to develop interventions and/or incentive plans when appropriate
Actively participate in committees, meetings, supervision, and professional development activities

Bachelor's degree or higher is required, preferably in education, special education or related field, Master's degree preferred

Located 45 minutes from the Nation's Capital, nestled in a history-rich community of southern Maryland, The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) is a two-time Aspen Award-winning institution (top 15% of Community Colleges) with academic programs in over 100 disciplines. This is a part-time faculty position in the Department of English, Communication, and Languages. Some areas taught by this department include English, Spanish, French, ESL, English Composition, Languages and Culture, and Reading.
CSM is accepting applications on a continuous basis for adjunct positions at all campus locations.
English is the primary area of teaching responsibility.
The college also has a significant need for passionate adjunct faculty excited to contribute to our Early College program. Students taking Early College classes are dually enrolled in their local high school while also completing courses at CSM towards a certificate or degree. Early College faculty teach face-to-face classes between the hours of 8:15 am and 2:00 pm, two to four days a week.
Spanish Instructors for day and evening classes for the La Plata campus. Master's degree is required.
CSM is looking for a dynamic individual who can implement the comprehensive mission of a community college by assessing, documenting, and improving student learning through instruction.

The part-time adjunct faculty member is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities to promote student-centered learning. The part-time adjunct faculty member is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on the campus(es) or center to which the faculty member is assigned. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, holding office hours, serving on various committees, and participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations. A part-time adjunct faculty member performs all other duties as directed by the Division Chair, Dean, Vice President of Academic Affairs, or the President or designee.
The part-time adjunct faculty member will teach assigned course(s) throughout the academic year. The part-time adjunct faculty member will schedule, publish, and hold _5__ office hours per week during the academic year, including fall and spring semesters. The part-time adjunct faculty member will participate in professional development opportunities and perform professional service hours, as set forth in the Faculty Handbook.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
At a minimum, the faculty member must be able to perform the following essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations:
Teaching Functions:
* to plan, organize, and instruct courses in the day, evening, or on weekends at the College of Southern Maryland campus, center, or clinical location to which assigned;
* to ensure that assigned classes are held as scheduled; communicating all absences and changes to course schedule to the Course or Program Coordinator;
* to keep active at a high level of expertise in the subjects taught and stimulate enthusiasm for those subjects;
* to plan each unit or lesson, both as to content and method, to make each class meaningful;

* to make use of the college Group Wise email system for professional communication with students, faculty, division chair, and other college personnel with a response time of 48-72 hours
* to keep Course or Program Coordinator informed of any student concerns or conduct violations within 48 hours of the incident
* to maintain accurate and complete scholastic records, including attendance records;
* to conduct class evaluations and complete other college evaluations in accordance with college policy;
* to submit academic reports and other documentation in a timely manner and when appropriate;
* to attend all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the President, Vice President, Associate Vice President, Division Chair, Program Coordinator, or Course Coordinator;
* to become thoroughly familiar with all college policies and procedures and comply with all college policies and procedures;
* to become familiar with the Faculty Handbook;
* to convey college-related information to students in a timely manner as requested by college officials.
Program Improvement:
* to participate in program and curriculum review and development and student learning outcomes assessment initiatives;
* to recommend textbooks and other instructional materials including classroom and laboratory equipment to the Course Coordinator, Program Coordinator, Division Chair or designee;
* to make suggestions to the Course Coordinator, Program Coordinator, Division Chair, Associate Vice President or Vice President of Academic Affairs concerning the improvement of the curriculum in keeping with the objectives of the college
Professional Development:
* to keep informed of current trends and new approaches to instruction via professional development activities, submitting continuing education records to Program Coordinator and/or HEA Administrative Assistant;
Minimum Education and Training
* Master's degree in the discipline of instruction OR Master's in any field AND 15 hours in the discipline OR Sufficient experience in lieu of either requirement, as approved by VPAA
* Subject matter/content expertise in the Language and Literature field and ability to demonstrate this expertise in a teaching presentation.
* This person should possess enthusiasm and passion for student learning and student services and be able to respond to the needs of students using a variety of teaching methods including new technologies.

This is a 9-month, full-time, campus-based, faculty position in applied mathematics, with responsibilities for teaching and student advising and mentoring. Essential Functions
Engage in instructional activity totaling 30 contact hours per academic year as assigned by Academic Program Administrator ( APA ). Maintain teaching effectiveness by encouraging active student learning, reflecting and responding to student evaluations of teaching, and adjusting teaching strategies per recommendations from classroom observations, supervisor evaluations, and other relevant sources of feedback. Teaching responsibilities include, but are not limited to, time spent in classroom, laboratory, or other academic setting, and in immediate preparation for them; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught; preparing and regularly updating teaching materials; conferring with students on course materials; directing individual and group studies; preparing assignments, grading students' work, and providing feedback to students in a timely manner. Note that all Stevenson University courses require faculty to use the Blackboard Course Management System. Other responsibilities include writing and/or updating syllabi each semester or term; reading and responding to emails; grading course work in a timely fashion; submitting mid-term and final grades, attendance verification, academic alerts, and other reports as requested; and alerting appropriate university personnel to student concerns on a timely basis. Provide feedback to students via assignments, exams, and other forms of learning assessment in a timely manner. Prepare courses and syllabi in accordance with published faculty guidelines. Schedule and hold at least three office hours per week. Evaluate, update, and revise courses regularly. Participate in the assessment activities of the Program, Department, School, and University.
