Security Guard is able to perform a variety of fixed-post, mobile, or foot patrols while maintaining situational awareness and making decisions and/or taking actions consistent with established post orders, facility rules, guidelines and protocols. Duties may include work in austere and uncomfortable conditions for prolonged periods of time, including periods of inclement weather, while performing walking, standing, searching, and surveillance or sitting duties essential to the performance of the security functions.
The pay rate for this position is $25.73/hour + $5.25/hour H&W.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Keep supervisors and managers informed of unusual occurrences and important events as detailed in post orders, rules, regulations, guidelines, and protocols.
• Monitor alarms, radio traffic and other information sources. Dispatch or inform others as needed and authorized.
• Report and appropriately address fire alarms, burglary alarms, requests for assistance and criminal acts; including but not limited to: vandalism, theft, illegal entry or attempted entry, suspicious behavior, domestic or workplace violence, threats, speed or other vehicle violations, illegal drug use, inappropriate use of facility or client equipment or property.
• Stop, screen, inquire, and inspect vehicles and pedestrians entering and / or exiting the facility as directed by post orders, rules, regulations, guidelines, and protocols.
• Prevent passage of prohibited articles onto or from client facility.
• Escort individuals or vehicles in accordance with post orders, rules, regulations, guidelines and protocols.
• Use portable radios, phones, or other communication devises appropriately and according to established rules.
• Monitor all APSI and client equipment; guard against loss or damage; report any such loss or damage immediately to a supervisor or manager.
• Log in Property Pass numbers for authorized property/equipment movements.
• Ensure the security of government property, detaining personnel, and reporting anyone involved with unauthorized property/equipment removal.
• Conduct regular patrols and inspections of buildings and facilities
• Issue required vehicle passes to authorize personnel.
• Monitor electronic access control and report violations
• Monitor radio-frequency identification (RFID) systems and respond to alarms indicating unauthorized removal of government property.
• Grant access to areas during non-working hours to authorized personnel in accordance with the established procedure and access lists.
• Monitor facility equipment and utility systems and report deficiencies to personnel responsible for repairs.
• Perform random surveillance of buildings for the detection of unauthorized or inappropriate activity.
• Perform random surveillance of fence line for breaches and the detection of unauthorized removal of government property, illegal or inappropriate activity.
• Provide additional security support for scheduled events that may occur during or after duty hours or for unscheduled emergencies as requested by supervisor
• Maintain activity logs and administrative documents as required by contract.
• Contact, assist, and cooperate with local, state, or federal law enforcement; locate, retain, and protect necessary evidence; testify as necessary in judicial and administrative proceedings.
• Other duties as assigned.
Access to government facilities/installations specific to this position is a mandatory requirement to fulfill the minimum qualifications for this position. The Government reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to deny or revoke access to the facilities/installations for reasons related to misconduct or security, with or without prior notice. Minimum Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of security/civilian law enforcement experience OR an equivalent position with the United States Armed Forces (military).
b. One year of work experience demonstrating the ability to follow directions, meet attendance requirements and the ability to complete the training necessary to certify with the State.
Language: Must be fluent in speaking and writing in English.
Pre-Hire Screening: Must be able to pass criminal background screen, drug test and physical exam.
Certifications: Applicants must have a state-issued Guard card before being hired.
Preferred Qualifications
1. First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
2. Prior experience with the Glock platform is preferred.
3. Proficiency in basic computer skills is preferred

General Description:
The purpose of this job within the organization is to perform a variety of routine and complex work to enforce the security and protect the property, personnel and resources of NOAA research vessels while in port, in compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines and policies. This job works under close to general supervision according to established NOAA practices that determine how or when to complete tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The functions listed below are those that represent much of the time spent working in this job/class. Management, or the Commanding Crew of the vessel, may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job/class as necessary.

This position is responsible for protecting designated people and places and should report noteworthy incidents to the company as they occur. This position will also ensure that safety equipment remains in excellent working order.
Essential Functions:
1. Ensure building occupants and visitors comply with posted rules and regulations. Discrepancies shall be immediately reported to the company or their respective officers.
2. Monitor and enforce the personal identification and visitor control system.
3. Perform facility patrols and facility checks in accordance with routes and schedules as directed.
4. Turn off unnecessary facility lights, lock, unlock, or open windows, doors, gates, and cabinets and enforce energy conservation procedures and other related duties.
5. Answer telephones and take messages.
6. Keep uniforms clean and professionally presentable.
7. Direct traffic, both vehicle and pedestrian, and control parking.
8. Detect and immediately report, persons attempting to gain unauthorized access to the property.
9. Prevent, if possible, unusual incidents, and detect and report damages, accidents, fire hazards, and violations of the security procedures.
10. Obtain professional assistance in accordance with procedures in the event of injury or illness to personnel or others while in the building or on the grounds.
11. Staff the security office and monitor security cameras.
12. Prepare a written report at the end of each shift. Contractor shall be responsible for maintaining these records for the term of the contract.
13. In the event of an emergency condition, notify designated personnel.
14. When required, provide security guard coverage on a shift basis for 24/7 service.
15. Other administrative or miscellaneous light duties, with patrol or other assigned duties.
16. Ensure all information provided regarding this contract is kept in a reading file at the guard station and is maintained by the contractor. This file shall be read and signed by each security guard when first assigned to the position and monthly thereafter.
17. Provide completed and error-free daily security and incident reports. The security guard contractor shall maintain a complete file of these reports.
18. Provide transportation for guards to and from site.
19. Implement annual random drug-testing program of 25% of the Contractor's employees. Test results shall be furnished to the company.
20. Comply with the requirements of the DoD Contract Security Specifications outlined in the DD Form 254.

Education and Experience:
Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have 1 -2 years of prior security officer experience. A clear criminal record is required.

A neat, professional appearance and the ability to work on your feet and navigate stairs for extended periods is necessary. Must have the ability to work a variety of shifts.
Unavoidable Hazards:
Involves routine and frequent exposure to loud sounds, vibration, stairs, ramps and inclement weather. May be exposed to fumes and hazardous materials when working with mechanical equipment and tools. May require use of PPE (personal protection equipment) (e.g. earplugs, safety glasses, hardhats, reflective vests), supplied on site, and to know their proper usage and storage locations. You are not required to perform hazardous work, but there are hazardous situations to be aware of and protect yourself from at all times.

Minimum Qualifications
At the time of employment be 21 years of age and a United States citizen or a United States National; have a high school or home school diploma recognized or certified by a state or a local school district within a state as having met that state's graduation requirement; or have a General Educational Development certificate.
Special Note:
Appointment to CorrectionalOfficer 1 is conditional, pending successful completion of a thorough background investigation, psychological evaluation, drug screening, and medical examination.
This class series is considered technical/paraprofessional for purposes of evaluating minimum qualifications.

Individuals not continuously employed since February 9, 1991, by the State of Alaska Department of Corrections in a "correctionalofficer," "probation officer," or "parole officer" position, as defined by 13 AAC 85.900, are subject to requirements established by Alaska Police Standards Council (APSC). As a condition of continued employment, these individuals must obtain a basic correctionalofficer certificate issued by the APSC within 14 months of hire.

Upon successfully passing screening criteria, qualified candidates will receive a job offer that is conditional. The Department also recognizes that recruiting efforts by CorrectionalOfficers is an effective tool for new recruits. Under the provisions of the current collective bargaining agreement, current officers may be credited with Recruitment Incentive Leave for proactively participating in recruiting efforts for CorrectionalOfficer 1/2 positions. CorrectionalOfficers who recruit a new officer, who successfully completes probation and the academy, are eligible to be awarded an additional 60 hours of personal leave to be credited to their leave account.
Correctional Facilities are located in various Alaska communities and during the application process, applicants will be allowed to select their preference for consideration and may select more than one location; however, successful applicants will be offered positions based upon total number of vacancies and the needs of the department.

Starting salary may be approved up to Step D - $48.30, if criteria are met.

Position Summary:
A Signal Armed Security Officer will conduct security services for the surveillance and protection against fire, theft, pilferage, malicious injury, and destruction. Armed security officers, equipped with concealed weapons, shall be dressed in a soft uniform for roving patrols and posted at the main lobby entrance of the facility assigned. Must be a citizen of the United States or a resident alien who has demonstrated intent to become a citizen of the United States.

Must have successfully completed the Methods of Instruction School (MOD, Drug Awareness Resistance Education (DARE) or Alaska Marine Safety Education Assistance (AMSEA) Instructor school and satisfactorily taught a minimum of two classes as a VPSO Certified Instructor at the DARE classes, RLET, VPSO regional training, and/or VP0 Academy. The requirement for having satisfactorily taught a class will be met if an acceptable or higher average rating is received on student/instructor evaluations.
Must be willing to serve as a TAC Officer at the RLET or VPO Academy and assist in coordinating and instructing at the VPSO Regional Training.

DUI/Traffic Unit Officer:
Lateral Police Officers from outside Alaska, must have successfully completed a state certified training academy with at least 650 hours, must have at least five years of experience from a full-service law enforcement agency, and must be now or have been certified within 5 years as a police officer in their jurisdiction to be considered for a lateral position with the Fairbanks Police Department.
The Fairbanks Police Department will work with Alaska Police Standards Council and the lateral applicant in attempts to approve them for APSC certification based on their past training and experience.
Once APSC accepts an individual's out of state certification, each individual applicant will be vetted and assessed by the Fairbanks Police Department for the proper course of training that will be required, but likely successful candidates will attend an abbreviated Police Academy to familiarize them with police work in Fairbanks.
After an abbreviated training orientation, officers will be required to attend Field Training. Field Training may be abbreviated depending on the progress of the individual officer.
* This position is a direct hire into the FPD DUI/Traffic Unit. This assignment in the unit will be for up to 5 years from the completion of the departments FTEP.*
Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of service as a sworn fulltime police officer, not including field training time. 3 of those years should be uniformed in patrol.
Enforcement of all criminal and traffic laws including the identification and apprehension of violators. Perform a variety of crime prevention and enforcement duties as assigned. Respond to complaints and requests for police assistance and intervene in various situations as required. Enforce traffic regulations, direct traffic, investigate collisions and complete detailed collision reports. Conduct preliminary investigations; collect and preserve evidence. Maintain records and daily reports; prepare cases for court testimony. Testify in court as required. Coordinate with other agencies as required.
The duties and requirements of a Police Officer include, but may not be limited to, performance of the following activities: use of firearms, driving emergency vehicles, handcuffing prisoners, administering first aid, rescue operations, lifting and carrying up to 70 lbs., directing traffic, subdue prisoners, pursue suspects, walking-lateral mobility, walking over rough terrain, bending, stooping, crouching, sitting, standing, standing for long periods, kneeling, twisting, pushing, pulling, running, sense of touch, reaching, gripping hands and fingers, climbing stairs, ladders, hearing alarms and voice conversation, color identification, close and far vision, side vision-depth perception, night vision, maintaining balance, finger dexterity, speaking, physically control combative and disruptive persons.
Physical audio / visual requirements include normal color discrimination, normal binocular coordination, normal peripheral vision, and corrected visual acuity of 20/30 or better in each eye. Normal color discrimination is defined as having the ability to discern the primary safety colors of red, green and yellow. Requires normal hearing or having no hearing defect which would adversely affect performance as a Police Officer.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Must be a citizen of the USA by date of hire.
* High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
* Must be at least 21 years old by date of hire.
* Must possess a valid State of Alaska driver's license by date of hire.
* Must meet Alaska Police Standards Council (APSC) and Fairbanks Police Department (FPD). standards regarding misdemeanor and/or felony convictions, traffic violations and use of controlled substances. Such as:
* No criminal convictions after reaching the age of 18.
* No marijuana use within the past one (1) year.
* Must be able to obtain APSC certification within 13 months of hire (AS 18.65.240).
* Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) / National Crime Information Center (NCIC). certification within thirty (30) days of hire.
* Satisfactory Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check at time of hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines, tools and equipment which includes a motor vehicle, police bicycle, computer, calculator, copy machine, telephone, camera, video camera, tape recorder, two-way radio, radar gun, baton, handcuffs, gun/firearm, etc. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for very heavy work.
STANDING/WALKING:
Patrol Duties: Stands and Walks on concrete or asphalt pavement or uneven, unpaved surfaces about 30% of the day. Distance is normally 1,000 feet or less at any one time.
Office Duties: Stands and walks on concrete, vinyl, and carpeted floors about 10% of the day. Distance is normally 100 feet or less.
SITTING:
Patrol Duties: Sits in a patrol vehicle 60% of the day.
Office Duties: Sits in the office for report writing and meetings about 20% of the day in chairs normally at a table or using a computer terminal.
CARRYING:
May routinely carry objects of varying sizes and weight up to 1,000 feet in distance. Objects may be of different substances or shapes. Some carrying may be under emergency conditions.
LIFTING:
May routinely lift objects as part of regular duties (i.e., drawing firearm or baton). Lifting does not normally require anything over shoulder height. May include lifting persons in custody, unconscious, et cetrea. Weights range up to 250 pounds, but routinely weigh 10 to 50 pounds.
PUSHING/PULLING:
May be required to pull weights up to 180 to 250 pounds under emergency/arrest conditions. Routinely may push/pull objects weighing 10 to 50 pounds, or push a vehicle short distances.
BENDING:
From the waist to pick up or lay down an object. May be down on knees for short time periods, as duties require.
REACHING:
Patrol Duties: Reaching will be required under emergency/arrest conditions. Measurement of the degree is not possible to quantify. Reaching frequently in patrol vehicle for radio or siren/light bar controls is 2 feet or less. Will provide traffic direction and control, this requires extensive use of hand and arm signals for periods varying from 5 minutes to 1 hour. Office Duties: Some reaching required while changing into uniform, reaching for office supplies across a table. Reaching is not normally required for distances over 3 feet.
TWISTING:
Patrol Duties: Twisting will be required under emergency/arrest conditions. Measurement of the degree is not possible to quantify. Twisting in the patrol vehicle is 60% to one side or the other as well as some twisting is involved in entering/leaving vehicle. Office Duties: Twisting is required sitting at a table or desk as officer reaches for the phone or supplies. Twisting in this environment is 45% to one side or the other.
CLIMBING - HEIGHT:
atrol Duties: On/over various building surfaces, fences, walls (approximately 6 feet high), etc. Climbing stairs between building levels common part of daily routine; slope/number of steps varies, depends on situation. May be under emergency conditions. Office Duties: There is minimal exposure to this activity.
CRAWLING:
Patrol Duties: May be required in emergency situations. Surfaces may vary, inside/outside, environments. Distance normally limited to less than 10 feet.
RUNNING:
Patrol Duties: Running may be required for short distances to escape from or reach an incident scene or in the process of arresting a suspect.
DATA CONCEPTION:
Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, technical, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.

Who We Are Seeking: Our Tribal Police Department has multiple Inter-Tribal Governmental agreements with several Tribes in the State of Alaska and is looking to fill up to six (6) TPO positions. We are seeking motivated professionals, preferably with Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), Alaska Police Standards Council Academy training, and at least one year of patrol experience; preferably in rural Alaskan communities, and/or a background in military policing. As a TPO, you will be part of a team dedicated to enforcing Tribal and federal laws. TPOs respond to a range of service calls; assisting elders, vulnerable individuals, and investigating crimes. They are primarily responsible for preventing crime and actively participating in community safety and crime prevention programs, upholding Tribal and federal laws, and protecting the public through patrolling assigned areas and completing tasks as assigned by their supervisor.
Additional Responsibilities: Follow standard operating procedures to observe and respond to various situations and/or emergencies; complete case work and produce internal reports; foster public relationships and correspond with emergency services, community groups and individuals; attend and provide evidence in court upon request; and participate in Tribal meetings, trainings, and events.
Qualifications, Education & Experience:
1+ year(s) of police experience is preferred.
