Ursinus College is seeking full-time Campus Safety Officers (CSOs) to work an assigned schedule which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. The successful candidate will be required to work special events, attend mandatory in-service training, and staff meetings, as well as be available for overtime when necessary.
Ursinus College CSOs are non-sworn, unarmed employees tasked with patrolling the 170-acre campus to discourage criminal behavior and interact with all members of the college community to promote a sense of well-being and security and enhance the quality of life on the Ursinus College campus.
Ursinus College CSOs are expected to be ambassadors for the college and provide exceptional customer service to all members of the college community. Responsibilities
Safeguard life and property, and interdiction of criminal activity through high visibility, vehicular, bike, and foot patrol on the campus
Respond to non-emergency and emergency situations, including alarms, lockouts, medical and mental health crises, and crimes in progress and summon municipal Police, Fire, and EMS assistance when required
Conduct initial investigations, collect witness statements, photograph scenes, and prepare and submit concise and comprehensive incident reports
Regulate campus vehicular and pedestrian traffic to enhance safety and expedite flow. Enforce college parking regulations
Identify, report, and resolve conditions and circumstances that are hazardous to people and property. Inspect buildings and properties for proper maintenance and working order
Secure and unlock campus buildings in accordance with schedules and procedures
Administer First Aid and CPR when necessary
Provide escorts and shuttle transportation to members of the campus community as assigned
Monitor surveillance camera system and perform dispatcher duties as part of normal duties
Maintain confidentiality of information
This position is a Campus Security Authority as designated under the Jeanne Clery Act of 1990
Requirements and Qualifications
High School diploma or GED and good work history required
Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and at least one year driving experience
Ability to operate a motor vehicle at night and in poor weather conditions
Proven computer literacy (Microsoft Office Word, Excel)
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills are required
Must be capable of passing a background investigation including criminal records check
Understanding of higher education setting and ability to work with persons of diverse cultures and backgrounds
Physical Demands:
Patrolling assigned areas during all types of weather conditions
Ability to sit or stand for prolonged period, must also be able to bend, stoop, squat, reach above shoulder level, kneel, lift and carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds

GENERAL PURPOSE
The Corrections Officer is responsible for maintaining order and securing inmates in the county jail.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
This position reports directly to a Corrections Supervisor - Sergeant and Corrections Supervisor - Lieutenant, and/or other higher level supervisory officer as designated.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION
When necessary, it is required that Corrections Officers be able to work in excess of eight (8) hours at one time and without restrictions and be able to perform the duties and responsibilities at 100% of capacity in order to be fit for duty.
Processes incoming inmates.
Conducts searches within the facility and searches inmates' cells in accordance with established policies, regulations, and/or procedures.
Transports inmates as necessary.
Monitors inmate activities, including both supervision and interaction with inmates.
Coordinates daily activities of inmates.
Makes required rounds to check safety and welfare of inmates.
Processes paperwork, completing required reports and forms on a daily basis, such as incidents of misbehavior or violation of rules.
Interacts with the public via telephone or face to face and coordinates activities with outside agencies and internal county personnel.
Enters information into the jail's computer system.
Reviews and interprets Court orders, remands and releases.
Observes inmates to detect violations of jail regulations or any unusual physical appearance or behavior of inmates.
Physically restrains inmates when necessary to prevent injuries to staff and other inmates and to maintain security.
Uses weapons, handcuffs, and minimum amount of physical force to maintain discipline and order among inmates in situations which necessitate.

On reporting to work, attends shift briefings and reads bulletins issued by the department or institution to keep abreast of changes in policies/regulations; receives work assignments.
Directs inmates in housekeeping duties in the cell block area such as sweeping/mopping of floors, making beds, and dusting/vacuuming to maintain sanitary conditions.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - Completion of a high school, or general equivalency, diploma; AND
Corrections Officers are required to possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record; AND
Preferred age requirement is twenty-one (21) years of age. We will consider applicants between eighteen (18) and twenty (20) years of age based on maturity and documented work experience, education and/or military experience.
MEDICAL EXAMINATION - a post offer medical examination, including a urine drug screen, is a requirement for employment. Any medical or physical condition or defect which would cause the officer to be a hazard to himself, herself or others, or become aggravated as a result of the performance of these duties, will be cause for the offer to be rescinded.
PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMINATION - A post-offer psychological examination must be completed prior to hire. Failure to demonstrate sufficient capacity to perform duties of this position may be cause for the offer to be rescinded.
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION - A post-offer criminal history check, child abuse clearance, credit check, and motor vehicle driving record check will be completed for all Corrections Officers candidates. OLEORESIN CAPSICUM (OC SPRAY) - A Corrections Officer's assignment requires carrying an OC spray, also known as pepper spray, and the officer must qualify upon hire as well as requalify annually to maintain certification.
ALL STAFF MUST CLEAR THE X-RAY MACHINE UPON ENTRANCE TO THE FACILITY AND ARE SUBJECT TO SEARCH AT ANY TIME.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Screens pedestrian and vehicular access to campus via the Gatehouse and other entry points to assure only authorized person(s) are permitted on campus or athletic facilities.
Have a proficient understanding of security technology, including video camera system operations, card access systems, mass alert systems, and other emerging technology.
Completes Incident Reports for all reportable incidents that occurred on campus.
Submits property maintenance service requests to School Dude when maintenance and/or repairs are .
Assists with fleet readiness and vehicle delivery to authorized drivers for trips, including signing vehicles in or out, refueling, and subsequent cleanings.
Answers radio calls and/or incoming phone calls professionally via security radio.

Qualifications
Valid Driver's license.
