CERTIFICATIONS!
Upon successful completion of the training program, Officers earn certifications in: Crisis Intervention Training, CPR & First Aid, National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Terminal Operator, National Incident Management System (NIMS), Pepper Spray, Criminal Justice Information Service (CJIS), and Defensive Tactics - Law Enforcement Krav Maga. Possible certifications COs may earn in the future include PepperBall, Pistol, and Taser 10.
EMPHASIS ON MENTAL AND PHYSICAL WELLBEING! Annual mental health visits are provided to officers to confidentially discuss concerns or issues with a professional. Additional sessions are offered by the County for officers and family members along with access to financial resources, legal advisors, work and lifestyle support, and educational resources. The Jail has an onsite workout facility, and the County also offers gym reimbursement, wellness challenges, and health and fitness education throughout the year.
12 HOUR SHIFTS! Work 15 shifts a month and have Fri/Sat/Sun off every other week. Year-long rotations provide consistent schedules.
CAREER ADVANCEMENT! Possible opportunities for special assignments and promotions within the Jail Division including Transporter, Court Security Officer, Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Warden. How You Will Make an Impact
Perform inmate head counts, cell checks, and searches. Monitor, log, and supervise inmate movement, recreation, visitations, cleaning, laundry, and security checks. Receive and release inmates by completing paperwork, fingerprinting, photographing, data entry, and conducting checks for outstanding warrants, protection orders, etc. Log and manage inmate property, money, and supplies. Exercise appropriate use of force and self-defense tactics to restrain disorderly inmates and deescalate volatile situations. Operate and maintain radios, telephones, and other communication equipment. Operate doors and intercoms and perform security checks of the perimeter, buildings, and grounds. Answer phones and assist callers with questions and concerns. Answer inmate questions and concerns and assist inmates with paperwork as necessary. Prepare and complete reports.
What You Need to Succeed in this Role
High school diploma or GED and one year of relevant work experience. Comparable combination of education and work experience may be considered. Must pass a written examination. Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a safe driving record with Minnehaha County. Must successfully complete pre-employment background process. Ability to make appropriate decisions quickly and with tact and impartiality. Ability to learn and apply the policies and procedures of law enforcement operations. As part of the application process the applicant will be required to complete the United States Secret Service Applicant Physical Abilities Test (APAT). It is a physical fitness assessment which consists of four components (push-ups, sit-ups, Illinois Agility Run and a 1.5 Mile Run). The APAT is designed to measure the current level of general physical fitness of an applicant, which serves as an indicator of an applicant's ability to safely complete a vigorous physical training program. It evaluates the applicant's ability to perform the physical tasks required on the job by measuring muscular and dynamic strength, endurance, flexibility, aerobic capacity and other factors related to physical aptitude. General Medical Requirements: As determined by OPM the duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of fingers, wrist, elbows, shoulders, hips and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs and feet must function sufficiently in order for applicants to perform the duties satisfactorily.

* Recruitment Incentive: Applicants may be eligible for a $40,000 recruitment incentive in accordance with regulatory requirements. The first installment of $15,000 will be paid following successful completion of Secret Service Criminal Investigator training. A second installment of $10,000 will be paid following one year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. The final installment of $15,000 will be paid after a third year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. Provision of these payments require the execution of a three-year Continued Service Agreement (CSA) with the agency. Newly hired employees who resign from the USSS prior to the expiration of the CSA will be required to repay the recruitment incentive. (NOTE: Eligibility is limited to "Newly appointed" Federal employees as defined by 5 CFR 575.102).
Applicants selected for this position will be required to sign a CSA before being assigned to an initial training class. The CSA will commit the applicant to a specified period of employment with the Secret Service upon the successful completion of training.

The experience must have included general arrest authority.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Identifies, reports and documents safety hazards and handles such hTegularities as assigned by Supervisor in a manner prescribed by hospital and department policy.
* Initiates investigations into incidents or activities of criminal nature and submits appropriate information to law enforcement agencies as directed.
* Assumes responsibility for proper inventory, pickup, transport and storage of patient valuables and after hour patient deposits.
* Maintains storage and records of lost, found and stolen property of visitors, patient and employees.
* Controls loud, disorderly, physically aggressive, violent patients or visitors on a consistent basis and summons police to assist if necessary. Provides accurate directions, information and, if necessary, escort to the public.
* Provides traffic control, as needed.
* Operates required vehicle(s) in a safe manner to perform required duties of the position.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
* High school degree or GED.
* Security, police and/or military experience. Cunently emolled/degree in law enforcement or police science studies may be substituted for experience. Any equivalent background.
* Valid Driver's/Chauffeurs License required, must meet Mercy's Motor Vehicle Safety Staudards, must be at least 18 years of age aud be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.
* Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population serve within tlu·ee (3) months of hire.
* Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.
* ASP, handcuffing, aud pepper spray certified or obtained within tlu·ee (3) months of hire.

Position Summary

This role pays an hourly rate of $63.00.

Responsibilities
* Patrol all assigned locations as directed, stationary and mobile.
* Work independently, judges and assesses situations for immediate response.
* Secures property from damage, theft, and vandalism.
* Courteously investigates persons who look suspicious or out of place.
* Responds to emergencies, incidents, accidents, and requests for service as required.
* Maintains records, logs, databases, filing systems, and other necessary records/forms as directed by the Security Manager.
* Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
* Valid Driver's license required.
* High School diploma or GED certification.
* Six months to one year of security experience, preferably in a similar environment.
* CLEET Certified Law Enforcement Officer.
* Ability to work with minimum supervision.
* Exhibit excellent customer service skills.
* Ability to work in both inside and outside environmental conditions.
* Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.
* Regularly required to move around the facility; to stand for long hours during events; talk and hear.
* Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
