General Notice: The City of Bristol is accepting applications for Certified Police Officer testing to establish an ongoing lateral certification eligibility list for filling vacancies. Testing includes: Written exam, oral exam, background investigation, psychological, polygraph & physical exam.

Salary Range: $78,813 - $95,800/year
Eff. 07-01-26 increases to $80,783 - $98,195/year
*Upon hiring, the level of compensation shall be the same as, or as reasonably proximate to, based upon the current Bristol CBA salary schedule, the rate the officer received from their previous employer. Thereafter, police officers shall advance to the next highest Step, if any, on their anniversary date of employment.
Sign On Bonus: $7,500 lump sum payment minus applicable deductions after successfully completing the probationary period with the City of Bristol per the Memorandum of Understanding.
Probationary Period: Twelve (12) months for certified officers hired under the Memorandum of Understanding.
Enhanced Benefits:
Vacation: Upon hire, the level of vacation received shall be the same, or as reasonably proximate to, based upon the current Bristol CBA , the amount the officer received from their previous employer.
Sick Leave: Upon hire, the officer shall receive 12 working days of sick leave credit. Thereafter, the officer shall receive sick leave benefits in accordance with Sec. 14.5 of the current CBA, namely 12 working days of sick leave credit each year on the anniversary date of employment. Upon reaching 5 years of service, the officer shall receive sick leave benefits in accordance with the CBA.
Student Loan Forgiveness Program:
After completion of probation, lateral hired officers only, shall be reimbursed up to $5,000 per year for student loan reimbursements up to a maximum of 5 years from their date of hire.
Reimbursements shall be made for student loan debt incurred prior to employment with Bristol.
Payments shall be made at the beginning of the fiscal year (during the month of July) with evidence of student loan payments for the prior year (July 1
st
thru June 30
th
).
Eligibility for payment reimbursement shall not occur unless employed as of July 15
th
of a given year. This payment shall, if required, be made net of applicable deductions.
Eligibility for the program and payments for reimbursement shall be made at the sole discretion of the City.
Duration: The City has right, in its sole discretion, to terminate the Sign-On Bonus and enhanced benefits program with 30 days' notice to the Union. The MOU shall expire 07-01-27 unless the parties otherwise agree to extend it.

* Possess a current valid driver's license. Must be REAL ID compliant.

Qualifications

* Be a member of a national honor (other than freshman honor societies) recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. Please submit a college transcript(s) showing your grade point average for all four years of undergraduate study, including all transferred courses.
* NOTE: GPAs are rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.95 will round to 3.0 and 2.94 will round to 2.9. As part of the application process the applicant will be required to complete the United States Secret Service Applicant Physical Abilities Test (APAT). It is a physical fitness assessment which consists of four components (push-ups, sit-ups, Illinois Agility Run and a 1.5 Mile Run). The APAT is designed to measure the current level of general physical fitness of an applicant, which serves as an indicator of an applicant's ability to safely complete a vigorous physical training program. It evaluates the applicant's ability to perform the physical tasks required on the job by measuring muscular and dynamic strength, endurance, flexibility, aerobic capacity and other factors related to physical aptitude. General Medical Requirements: As determined by OPM the duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of fingers, wrist, elbows, shoulders, hips and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs and feet must function sufficiently in order for applicants to perform the duties satisfactorily.

* Recruitment Incentive: Applicants may be eligible for a $40,000 recruitment incentive in accordance with regulatory requirements. The first installment of $15,000 will be paid following successful completion of Secret Service Criminal Investigator training. A second installment of $10,000 will be paid following one year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. The final installment of $15,000 will be paid after a third year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. Provision of these payments require the execution of a three-year Continued Service Agreement (CSA) with the agency. Newly hired employees who resign from the USSS prior to the expiration of the CSA will be required to repay the recruitment incentive. (NOTE: Eligibility is limited to "Newly appointed" Federal employees as defined by 5 CFR 575.102).
Applicants selected for this position will be required to sign a CSA before being assigned to an initial training class. The CSA will commit the applicant to a specified period of employment with the Secret Service upon the successful completion of training.
Applicants will be required to travel to all phases of the hiring process at their own expense. If a final job offer is extended, relocation expenses will not be authorized for first duty location.

Position Highlights
Seasonal Patrol Officers, also called EnCon Rangers, assist the State Environmental Conservation Police by working with the public to assist them in the safe and orderly enjoyment of our State Parks resources and activities while providing for the enforcement of laws and regulations.
Selected candidates will perform the EnCon Ranger duties primarily at State Parks providing for security and enforcement of laws and regulations for State Parks. This position is open to those at least 21 years of age by May 30, 2026. This position requires attendance of a mandatory training course (Ranger Training Academy) for those without POST certification. Applicants must be available on weekends from Saturday, March 14th through Sunday, May 10th for in-person training. Applicants must also be available for remote learning on select weekdays each week of the Ranger Training Academy.
Selection Plan

Contributes to meeting the fluctuating staffing needs of the department as evidenced by flexibility in own assignments and work schedules as evidenced by supervisor observation.
Follows all policies and procedures, annual mandatory in-services, required meetings, and all other conditions of employment are consistently met.

Education and Experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent is required
Must have a valid Class D driver's license with no major violations or restrictions.
Must be able to read, write, speak, the English language in an understandable manner.
Must be able to handle emergency situations in an effective and calm manner.
Must have general knowledge of security procedures and first aid.
Environment and Working Conditions
Ability to focus on task needs and perform intellectual executive functions as related to the functions of the facilities operation.
Ability to execute intellectual tasks and duties under conditions of high demand and distraction.
Ability to complete the essential functions of the position with or with adaptive personal devices (e.g., hearing aid, corrective lenses).
Ability to operate equipment and technology required for the position.
Able to wear personal protective equipment.
Must be able to communicate effectively.
Able to assist with the evacuation of residents under emergency status to the best of their physical ability.
Able to function independently with integrity and work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
Able to constantly stand, walk, and move intermittently throughout the workday.
Able to frequently push and/or pull a force of up to 26 pounds as relates to maintenance cart, etc.
Able to reach overhead, bend, and occasionally carry or lift up to 50 pounds and frequently carry or lift up to 35 pounds. Able to occasionally carry or lift objects in excess of 50 pounds with assistance.
Able to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
Able to work in outdoor elements and in all types of weather.
Hours
Full-time, 40 hours: 3rd shift: Tuesday-Saturday, 12 Midnight to 8:00am
Pay
$20.00 per hour + shift differential (additional $1.50 p/h)
