CorrectionalOfficers are responsible for ensuring the security, custody, control, and treatment of persons in our care in DOC facilities. CorrectionalOfficers have the ability to make a positive difference in the lives of others and are an integral part of the criminal justice system.
Salary Information
This position is in pay schedule/range 05-31 with starting base pay of $34.67/hour. Future increases will be in accordance with the Compensation Plan, and are currently scheduled at intervals of 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years. Differential pay is available for certain night and weekend shifts, and employees may be eligible for FLSA premium overtime. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Pay upon appointment for current or former State employees may vary and will be in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code
Employees at medium security facilities are eligible for a $1.00/hour add-on: Fox Lake Correctional (Fox Lake, WI), Jackson Correctional (Black River Falls, WI), Kettle Moraine Correctional (Plymouth, WI), Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility (Milwaukee, WI), New Lisbon Correctional (New Lisbon, WI), Oshkosh Correctional (Oshkosh, WI), Racine Correctional (Sturtevant, WI), Racine Youthful Offender Correctional Facility (Racine, WI), Redgranite Correctional (Redgranite, WI); and Stanley Correctional (Stanley, WI).
Employees at maximum security facilities are eligible for a $3.00/hour add-on: Columbia Correctional (Portage, WI), Dodge Correctional (Waupun, WI), Green Bay Correctional (Green Bay, WI), Taycheedah Correctional (Fond du Lac, WI), Waupun Correctional (Waupun, WI), and Wisconsin Secure Program Facility (Boscobel, WI) are eligible for a $3.00/hour add-on.
Employees at Columbia Correctional (Portage, WI) are eligible for an additional, temporary $5.00/hour add on. Add-ons are subject to change and may adjust during the candidate selection process. The add-on is subject to review and removal on a bi-weekly basis.
Candidates with no prior permanent employment with the State of Wisconsin in the past 5 years may be eligible to accept a sign-on bonus of $2,000. The sign-on bonus will be paid in two installments: $1000 on the first paycheck and $1000 with the paycheck for the pay period in which the employee attains permanent status (usually 1 year). To receive the bonus, a candidate must sign an agreement indicating they will remain in that position in the same institution for a year. If the candidate leaves their position prior to completing the one year, they may be required to reimburse the initial payment. Job Details
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. If an applicant has an active work visa, the details regarding status and timeframe must be disclosed during the selection process.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks and DOC Security Checks (including internet, phone, and visitor log searches) on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
If a candidate has worked for a confinement entity as a current or past employer (e.g. federal or state prison, county or local jail, lockup, juvenile, or community confinement facility), that employer must be listed on their resume and reference contact information must be provided at the reference check stage of the process.
Upon hire, candidates will complete a paid six-week training program which includes on-the-job training at a Correctional Institution. The training time will be split between the Corrections Training Center (CTC) in Madison (or at a local training site if applicable) and the assigned institution. Training will focus on report writing, human/public relations, supervision of persons in our care, communication skills, and standards of conduct. While at your assigned institution and at CTC (or local training site if applicable), lunch will be provided. If a candidate's home address or assigned facility, whichever is closer, is 45 miles or more from the academy location they may be eligible for overnight accommodations both the night prior and nights between training. Candidates that qualify for lodging will automatically have lodging arranged by CTC.
As public safety employees, these positions are not eligible for remote work.

This position:

Escorts offenders, visitors and staff inside/outside of the institution and verifies possession of appropriate passes or legal documents; verifies offender population in an assigned area at regular/irregular intervals and participate in offender counts.
Interacts with the general public, visitors and victims in person or via phone.
Provides information, security, and assistance.
Observes offender behavior/interaction with staff, other offenders, and visitors; communicates observations to supervisory and program staff to ensure effective security and consistent application of offender change principles.
Continuously interacts with offenders, assisting in the development of problem solving skills, providing positive reinforcement when appropriate, and instituting corrective measures (informal counseling or sanctions, formal disciplinary action, or physical force) when necessary and as authorized by law/policy. Instructs offenders in policy, procedure, expectations, and assists offenders in the development of attitudes and skills necessary for successful adaptation to life within an institution.
Role models pro-social attitudes and behaviors that convey respect for others and the acknowledgement that offenders can change their lives by development of skills and the adoption of pro-social attitudes and behaviors.
Maintains logs, prepares reports, and enters information into the DOC electronic offender record system.
Supervises offender work assignments and evaluates work performance.

Our University Police Officers are sworn law enforcement officers that must be capable of providing a full range of law enforcement services by enforcing local and state laws and University regulations on the UW Platteville Campus under limited, general supervision. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting general investigations, performing security and various other services to the University Community, attending required meetings and training programs, and implementing emergency procedures. Key Job Responsibilities:
Police Officers must be capable of providing a full range of law enforcement services. They enforce laws, investigate complaints, investigate incidents that may have an impact on the University, maintain order, assist people, identify criminal activity, apprehend, and arrest offenders, identify the source of problems in the community, and work with the community to resolve issues. All Police Officers are expected to have the ability to conduct complex investigations, collect physical evidence, and assist fewer senior officers in similar circumstances. Police Officers must be capable of preparing complete written reports of all investigations and testifying regarding those reports when necessary.
Police Officers must maintain a high level of proficiency and good judgment in the use of police equipment including the handling and use of firearms consistent with the laws of the State of Wisconsin and Department Written Directives. Police Officers should be capable of working in cooperation with officers from other agencies and effectively partner with persons from other University departments, and mental health and social services agencies. Police Officers may be required to participate in crowd control and dignitary protection details. Experienced Police Officers may be selected to serve as Police Training Officers, Evidence Technicians, or Community Officers, in which cases additional training is normally provided. Experienced Police Officers may also be assigned to specialty units such as Court Services, Crime Prevention, Personnel and Training, Emergency Management, Infrastructure Security, or the Detective Bureau.
UW Platteville Police Department employees are expected to take an active role in creating and maintaining appositive, welcoming, and inclusive work environment. Required Education:
Applicants must have a two-year degree or at least 60 post-secondary education credits.
Required Skills, Experience, and Certifications/Licensures:
Candidate cannot have any unpardoned felony convictions or convictions for situations involving domestic violence.
Must possess a valid WI Driver's License with a good record, which includes non-convictions for which the license was suspended/revoked.
Must be at least 21 years of age, of good character, and be “free from any physical, emotional or mental condition which might adversely affect performance” as a law enforcement officer.
The ability to react quickly and effectively to stressful situations
Must be able to lift 50lbs.
Frequent exposure to extreme weather conditions (extreme heat in summer, extreme cold in winter, and severe weather all year round)
Frequent exposure to blood borne pathogens on medical calls

The Police Department is 24 hour/7 day a week service department. Working hours may vary to satisfy the department needs.
On occasion personnel will be expected to enter into dangerous situations to protect the University community.
Ability to climb up to eight flights of stairs, possibly carrying a medical bag, defibrillator, and/or other items necessary for the call.
Licenses, Certificates:
Must have completed a WI Department of Justice “Law Enforcement Recruit” training course and be eligible to receive certification upon employment. OR
Already be certified by the WI Law Enforcement Standards Board as a Law Enforcement Officer.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide security protection and access control.
Provide security protection for all government property, classified material and personnel within assigned areas of responsibility to preclude unauthorized access, theft, or intentional destruction.
Report/respond to unusual or emergency situations.
Be alert for potential security, property or safety concerns and initiate the appropriate actions.
Control ingress/egress into and/or out of posted/controlled/security areas.
Prevent/report all violations of security and safety rules and regulations.
Respond to protective alarm signals or other unusual/suspicious activities.
Maintain a working knowledge of all security and guard orders, written and oral, pertaining to the assigned duties.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident who is currently a member of, or who possesses a verifiable honorable discharge from, any component the United States Armed Forces.
Be a minimum of 21 years of age.
Must have a Social Security Card issued by the Social Security Administration, which bears the individuals name and social security number.
A minimum of two (2) years of security (armed), or one (1) year of law enforcement experience in a full-duty status with a full-service police department in a municipality, state, or federal enforcement department within the US, and have resigned or retired in good standing; or a minimum of two (2) years of honorable service as a member of any US Armed Forces (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard) Component.
Firearms training and firearms qualifications, and company certifications meet state/federal certifications.
Shall fluently speak, read, comprehend, and compose coherent written reports in English.
Familiarity with securing facilities and/or vehicles at a fixed location.
Physically capable of standing a 12-hour post.
High School education or GED equivalent.
Ability to pass a background investigation.
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Ability to pass a pre-employment physical exam.
Ability to pass MRPT suitability requirements.
Demonstrable Proficiency with a Handgun.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is typically in a busy office environment and subject to frequent interruptions with long periods of sitting, standing or walking. Extended hours to include nights, weekends and holidays may be required. May be subject to outdoor conditions including extreme temperatures and weather. Subject to high noise levels to include gun fire, hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat, extreme cold or exposure to chemicals.
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS
Heavy work: Exerting up to 200 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must have visual and audio acuity to heavy equipment, machines such as fire equipment and apparatuses, firearms and clearing barrels. May be required to be fitted for and/or wear a respirator. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, often without breaks, and may be required to climb stairs or ladders and walk-up inclines and on uneven terrain. While at your assigned institution and at CTC (or local training site if applicable), lunch will be provided. If a candidate's home address or assigned facility, whichever is closer, is 45 miles or more from the academy location they may be eligible for overnight accommodations both the night prior and nights between training. Candidates that qualify for lodging will automatically have lodging arranged by CTC.
As public safety employees, these positions are not eligible for remote work.

The university is currently seeking qualified individuals to serve as part time Security Officers on the Campus Safety and Security team. These positions will work approximately 20 hours per week with variable shifts that will mostly be nights and weekends.
Duties to include: following established rounds, monitoring security radio, enforcing parking regulations, opening and closing buildings and monitoring their mechanical operations, assisting police and fire depts. with any on campus incidents, writing security reports, and responding to service/emergency calls as needed. Occasional general light maintenance (changing light bulbs, changing smoke detector batteries, shoveling snow, etc.) will also be required. Hours will vary, but will primarily be nights and weekends. Position requires extensive walking in and outdoors in all weather conditions.
Requirements: H.S. diploma, knowledge of procedures involved in building and grounds security work, valid drivers license, and strong customer service/communication skills. Direct experience in security and CPR, AED, first aid, or first responder certification preferred. (A criminal history background check will be completed prior to hire).

SURVEILLANCE AGENT The Surveillance Agent protects casino assets via CCTV, in accordance with IRGC regulations and internal controls. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (The following statements are intended as general illustrations of the work in this job class and are not all-inclusive to this position.)
Observe all guest and team member activities in all monitored areas, including, but not limited to, casino floor, cage, count room, restaurants, and back of house common areas.
Monitor activity for criminal activity, violation of Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission regulations, and/or violation of company policies and procedures.
Appropriately record activities and report observations to company and Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission officials.
Appropriately record surveillance activity in daily log.
Maintain strict confidentiality relative to financial information, company policies and procedures, and team member and guest information.
Follows Federal, State, and local laws/ regulations in conjunction with property policies, procedures, and Internal Controls.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be able to obtain and maintain an Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission Class C license.
Must be at least 18 Years of age.
High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Surveillance experience preferred.
Must possess excellent teamwork, interpersonal, customer service, and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule as required by business operations, including late nights, weekends, and holidays; shifts may change.
