Summary
Provides first line supervision to security staff protecting Reynolda House Museum of American Art from criminal activity, fire, safety hazards, or other dangerous situations. Responsibilities involve dynamic interpersonal interaction with Reynolda House visitors, staff, and vendors during normal museum hours as well as special functions and after hours / weekend events. Demonstrates approachability and confidence, and makes all feel welcome as a reflection of the Reynolda brand.
Essential Functions:
Maintains knowledge of current policies, procedures to protect the collection, staff, and visitors to Reynolda.
Provides first line supervision for Protection Officers assigned throughout tour of duty; includes ensuring opening and closing procedures are followed; conducts briefings, assigns posts, and directs rotations.
Responds to medical emergencies; administers aid as required.
Actively monitors building access control, surveillance, and alarm systems (fire and intrusion) to ensure the safety / security of the collection, staff, and guests. Will take action based on observations as required.
Coordinates initial Security Department response in emergencies and evacuations (fire, medical, weather, security, etc.) based on established guidance and policies. Enforces all museum policies and procedures.
Receives reports of, and responds to, security issues and incidents. Investigates and completes detailed incident reports on various situations as they arise. Makes prompt notifications on various situations as required.
Responds appropriately to guest conflicts as the second level of conflict management.
Coordinates with Protection Officers to regulate and control traffic through galleries during regular museum operation and special events.
Coordinates with Protection Officers to protect the collection from unauthorized tampering, handling, defacing, touching or theft.
Other Functions:
Assists in the training of new security staff as directed.
Operates fire extinguishers, golf carts, and vehicles.
May perform minor bloodborne pathogens cleanup (in the absence of Facilities).
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
High school diploma or GED required.
Experience in security, law enforcement, or emergency services.
Ability to use a computer for multiple functions.
Ability to multitask.
Ability to successfully complete security training, first aid/CPR training, and other training as assigned by the Director of Security.
Ability to understand policies and make logical decisions.
Ability to detect and resolve problems.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
Possess effective communication skills (oral and written).
Ability to work flexible shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Reports to the Security Manager.
Physical Requirements:
Performs bending, climbing, crouching, kneeling, reaching from ground level to overhead, pushing and pulling up to 20 pounds; must be able to visually observe and monitor museum building, grounds, security cameras and other related equipment; will be subjected to long periods of sitting, standing and / or walking. May be called upon to physically assist guests in an emergency or evacuation.

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent and demonstrated work experience to perform job duties, such as experience in local or federal detention or correction centers, military police, or other law enforcement settings or other similar work settings, OR, graduation from an associate degree program with emphasis in corrections or criminal justice or related field, OR, graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
An employee in this position must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Additionally, the employee must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects. The employment procedure for the Police Trainee position is a multi-step process. An applicant must pass each step in sequential order to progress to the next step. Recruit training is an intense 25-week program that demands high academic performance in areas such as law, human relations, first aid, firearms, driver training, defensive tactics, and modern law enforcement techniques. The academy also includes daily rigorous physical activity, weight training, aerobic activities, periodic assessments on the physical abilities course, etc. Police Trainees must successfully complete all topical areas and the State Comprehensive Examination. New officers then receive an additional 12 weeks of field training followed by assignment to one of four districts of the Patrol Bureau. This pay-plan offers competitive starting salaries and guaranteed annual increases based on each year of experience as a North CarolinaCorrectionalOfficer. Those with prior North CarolinaCorrectionalOfficer experience can return to employment with full credit in the pay plan for each year of experience as well.
CorrectionalOfficer Responsibilities:
* Ensure the care, custody, and control of offenders.
* Perform general security duties to prevent escape, disorder, rule infractions, and harm to offenders, visitors, and staff such as:
* Search offenders, visitors, cells, and other areas for weapons and contraband
* Maintain and record offender counts, cell assignments, and other pertinent information
* Escort offenders within and outside the institution
* Supervise offender work details
* Identify offenders who have behavioral, medical, or other problems so that appropriate safety and security measures may be taken.
* Observing offender activity in person and on closed-circuit monitors.
* Specific security duties vary by post-assignment.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Some NC prisons contain more than one custody level of offenders. CorrectionalOfficer I:
Minimum - Offenders at these facilities require a minimum amount of oversight, they are permitted to enter/exit cells without permission during certain times of the day.

CorrectionalOfficer II:
Medium - Offenders at these facilities do not require as much oversight as those at Close facilities but require more supervision than those at Minimum facilities.

Close - Offenders at these facilities always require close supervision. Movement throughout the prison is heavily controlled.

Part-time options are at any facility with 24 to 32 hours a week maximum. All positions may need to cover flexible shifts as well as shifts on holidays and weekends.
