Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The primary mission of this position is to protect and serve the public members of Kansas, the secondary mission is to foster change in the resident population through appropriate behavior modeling, problem solving, communication skills and work ethics. This position serves a critical role in the overall operations of the facility by providing immediate supervision to all levels of the resident population during a routine shift and resolving problems or responding to emergencies within the compound in a judicious, expedient manner with the goal of creating a safe living and working environment. Ultimately the goal is to modify the incarcerated individuals' behavior to acceptable levels so that they may eventually, if judged appropriate by the laws of Kansas, re-enter society and become productive members.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
* As Officer-in-charge or second officer, supervises, maintains discipline and control of residents in their living quarters, at meals, in classrooms, in the hospital, kitchen and bathing areas; while they are segregated for punitive, protective and administrative purposes, while they are on work details (inside and outside).
* Searches inmates at their work, recreation, in the infirmary, while in food service and in their housing units to prevent the secreting of contraband and fabrication of lethal weapons, by physical pat down in a standing position. Applies mechanical restraints when necessary. Controls items of a security nature such as firearms, tools, locks, keys, medical equipment and drugs.
* Shakes down physical areas of the facility as directed or upon own initiative in order to prevent and control the secreting of contraband in living units, stairways. work areas, recreation areas, etc. Involves the physical search of premises from floor to ceiling and involves climbing on furniture and ladders to reach high places. Observes physical facility for deviations from normal which might indicate drugs or weapons being manufactured, imported, or hidden within the facility. Maintains, by observation, inventory and log, control of tools and equipment assigned to a crew or area to prevent the introduction of weapons, escape paraphernalia etc. back into the living areas.
* Advises, counsels, and otherwise assists security personnel with occupational and/or personal problems, referring the individual, when necessary, to the appropriate department for further assistance. Attempts to resolve grievances and/or provides information to the employee on the procedures to follow for filing a formal grievance.
* Follows established security procedure in controlling visitors, staff, residents and vehicular traffic to prevent the admittance or exit of unauthorized persons and the introduction of contraband. This includes searches and pat downs and may include full shakedown of vehicles.
* Observes resident activity and interactions in the area of responsibility. Enforces policies, rules and regulations. Monitors deviations in inmate behavior. Reports incidents or behaviors that deviate from the resident's general profile or that could cause an immediate problem. Discusses behavior changes with other staff when necessary.
* This position is subject to regular rotation to any post and/or shift within the facility.
Must be capable of performing Essential physical Functions (provided upon request)
* All uniformed security staff shall be considered essential personnel for their normally assigned shift during a declared inclement weather period.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
* Must meet all minimum qualifications and necessary special requirements for CO I A;
* Have a minimum of one year of relevant experience in the field of corrections or in the detention of convicted offenders;
* Have successfully completed the Corrections Officer Training Program (COTP).
* At the discretion of the agency, relevant college coursework or completion of corrections officer training in another jurisdiction may be substituted for some or all of the required COTP.

Job Responsibilities
Receives eight weeks of formalized pre-service security training at the Illinois Corrections Training Academy including firearms training due to requirements mandating qualification.
Receives on-the-job training under immediate supervision of a qualified correctional employee.
Assigned each work week to another correctional employee to assist in running lines, yard, dining room, housing units, facility buildings, writs, observing individuals in custody, perimeter patrol, armory, counting, shakedowns, movement, etc.

Dispenses medications and notify physician of medical needs. Maintains the jail in a good clean order.
Book-In. Books in and processes inmates in and out of jail. Fingerprints and photographs inmates. Maintain accounting for prisoner money and possessions.
Transports. Transports and secures inmates to and from court, hospitals and doctor and other law enforcement agencies.
Administrative Tasks. Meets the public at the detention center and supervise visiting hours and AA meetings. Makes minor plumbing repairs, replace light bulbs and make adjustments to equipment.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Position Summary: Serves as a liaison officer to the community assuring for the best public relations for the City and that all laws and regulations are followed.
Patrol Related Activities Meets with previous shift members when reporting to duty and receives updated information and assignments assuring for professionalism.Patrols assigned areas and monitors activities within the assigned beat maintaining an awareness of potential problems and suspicious activity. Conducts traffic and parking enforcement. Calls Responds appropriately and notifies dispatcher of arrival on scene. Takes appropriate enforcement or control action as required assuring that department procedures are followed and assuring for the safety of civilians and responding officers. Completes investigation, makes determination regarding enforcement action required, processes the scene and completes reports and documentation as required assuring for timeliness and accuracy.Conducts and completes any required follow up activities including collection of evidence and interviewing of witnesses/suspects assuring proper procedures are followed.Provides back-up coverage to responding officer when incidents are dispatched. Community Policing Establishes and maintains communication by the frequent use of personal contact with the community. Represents the department in continual interaction with various other social service agencies to combine all resources assuring for the best community service.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
Valid Kansas Driver's License
Ability to obtain State of Kansas patrol officer certification through Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center.
Within 6 months of hire, must live within 30 minutes of corporate city limits

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants who do not meet these minimum requirements will be automatically disqualified and are asked not to attend the scheduled testing date:
21 years of age or older before hire date.
Citizen of the United States.
If military service has been rendered discharge must be honorable or equivalent.
If previous law enforcement certificate must not be revoked by the State of Kansas or any other state.
Has not been convicted, and does not have an expunged conviction for a crime which is a felony or felony level equivalent under the uniform code of military justice.
Has not been placed on diversion on or after July 1, 1995, by any state of the federal government for a crime which is a felony or its equivalent under the uniform code of military justice.
No convictions of DUI/DWI or other serious driving violation in the past 5 years.
No more than 1 DUI/DWI or other serious driving violation convictions (no time limit).
No more than 3 moving violations and at fault accidents withing the past 3 years.
Has a high school diploma or furnishes evidence of successful completion of an examination indicating an equivalent achievement.
Is free of any physical or mental conditions, which might adversely affect the applicant's performance as a patrol officer.
No convictions of morals, drugs or weapons charges which include, but are not limited to the following: Prostitution, Promoting prostitution, Indecent exposure, Sale of marijuana, narcotics, or non-narcotic drugs, Incest, Commercial gambling.
No marijuana use or possession within the past 2 years.
No illegal use or possession of narcotics, or non-narcotic drugs within the past 10 years.
No convictions of misdemeanor crimes of violence/use of physical force withing the past 3 years.
No more than 1 conviction for misdemeanor crimes of violence/use of physical force (no time limit).
Has not been convicted, does not have an expunged conviction, or has not been placed on diversion by any governmental entity for a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or its equivalent under the uniform code of military justice. For the purposes of this section, a crime of domestic violence means a crime where an element of the crime is the user of or attempted use of physical force against another person who is a spouse, ex-spouse, a person with whom one shares a child in common, a person with whom one has cohabitated, ones parents, ones child, ones stepchild, ones foster child, or any child for whom one was the legal guardian.
A single conviction of any crime involving an element of deceit, untruthfulness, or dishonesty.
Any illegal distribution or sale of drugs whether or not charged, arrested, or convicted.
Any commission of felony crimes. Any information that could result in criminal charges will be forwarded to the proper jurisdiction.
No previously undisclosed crimes involving morals charges which include, but are not limited to the crimes outlined in 12 above.
Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of employment. Must obtain a valid Kansas Driver's License within 30 days of employment.

* Possess a current valid driver's license. Must be REAL ID compliant.

Qualifications

As part of the application process the applicant will be required to complete the United States Secret Service Applicant Physical Abilities Test (APAT). It is a physical fitness assessment which consists of four components (push-ups, sit-ups, Illinois Agility Run and a 1.5 Mile Run). The APAT is designed to measure the current level of general physical fitness of an applicant, which serves as an indicator of an applicant's ability to safely complete a vigorous physical training program. It evaluates the applicant's ability to perform the physical tasks required on the job by measuring muscular and dynamic strength, endurance, flexibility, aerobic capacity and other factors related to physical aptitude. General Medical Requirements: As determined by OPM the duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of fingers, wrist, elbows, shoulders, hips and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs and feet must function sufficiently in order for applicants to perform the duties satisfactorily.
Additional information
* Recruitment Incentive: Applicants may be eligible for a $40,000 recruitment incentive in accordance with regulatory requirements. The first installment of $15,000 will be paid following successful completion of Secret Service Criminal Investigator training. A second installment of $10,000 will be paid following one year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. The final installment of $15,000 will be paid after a third year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. Provision of these payments require the execution of a three-year Continued Service Agreement (CSA) with the agency. Newly hired employees who resign from the USSS prior to the expiration of the CSA will be required to repay the recruitment incentive. (NOTE: Eligibility is limited to "Newly appointed" Federal employees as defined by 5 CFR 575.102).
Applicants selected for this position will be required to sign a CSA before being assigned to an initial training class. The CSA will commit the applicant to a specified period of employment with the Secret Service upon the successful completion of training.
Applicants will be required to travel to all phases of the hiring process at their own expense. If a final job offer is extended, relocation expenses will not be authorized for first duty location.
The Secret Service prohibits employees from having visible body markings (including but not limited to tattoos, body art and branding) on the head, face, neck, hand and fingers (any area below the wrist bone) (exception a single conservative and unobtrusive tattoo in the form of a ring is authorized on one finger).

Responsibilities
Responsibilities for the Loss Prevention Officer position include but are not limited to:
Monitor, control, and document vehicular traffic
Secure premises by patrolling property
Inspect Vehicles
Inspect bags, lunch boxes
Monitor controlled access points
Complete required reports in a timely manner
Record observations, occurrences and surveillance activities
Prevent loss/damage to company property by providing a uniformed presence
Investigate incidents of irregularity
Contribute to a team effort
Other duties as assigned
This is a safety sensitive position. This is an on-site position.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates for the Loss Prevention Officer position should have the following:
Surveillance Skills
Strong, Ethical Character
Dependable
Ability to be objective
Ability to demonstrate professionalism
Good people/conflict resolution skills
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English
Exemplary performance and attendance record at previous employment
Bilingual is a plus
Must be available to work any shift including weekends and holidays
Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
