The security officer Is responsible for maintaining and ensuring safety and security services for students, faculty, staff, and visitors on College-owned and/or used properties. Through effective incident response, comprehensive building and campus property security, parking enforcement and other safety related services, the security officer supports and enforces College policies, and works effectively as a member of the campus security team. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop a thorough knowledge of all campus security posts, properties and geography.
Conduct security patrols on foot and in security vehicles and at fixed positions, including crowd and event control as assigned.
Independently and/or collaboratively with other officers and security staff, proactively respond to calls for service including but not limited to lock-outs, fire, mechanical and/or burglar alarms, alcohol violations, student code violations, escorts, parking violations, vandalism/graffiti complaints, motor vehicle accidents, noise disturbances, trespassing violations, etc.
Deter, detect and report unsafe, suspicious or criminal activity
Perform periodic inspections of systems and facilities such as alarms, street and outside lighting, building access systems, blue light kiosks etc to ensure proper function and prevent failure.
Respond to medical emergencies, providing first aid as required and arranging resource response to campus including Colby CER, Waterville and other Fire Departments and private ambulance services.
Provide medical and other transport services, in partnership with Colby jitney and shuttle services, including driving students to and from the Thayer health center, medical transports on campus and security escorts.
Enforce College policies, submitting necessary paperwork as assigned.
Actively participate in college events designed to foster the relationship between campus security and members of the Colby College community.
Conduct initial investigations, gathering information by interviewing and obtaining statements from witnesses, victims and suspects, securing physical evidence and filing detailed reports using a computerized report system while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
Provide general information and specialized training for the College community such as crime prevention and fire safety, campus tours of Miller Library and secure areas and others as assigned.
Participate in training, attending staff meetings and training sessions as assigned, including successful completion of various certification programs such as CPR.
Provide crowd control functions at concerts, athletic, social, and special events
Attend judicial and/or conduct procedures as required
Effectively operate and maintain assigned equipment including, but not limited to; radios, uniforms, computers, body and other camera systems, and vehicles.
Display exemplary customer service skills and ensure positive interactions with the community
Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required; professional coursework or post-secondary education are a plus
Additional training, certifications or related experience in personal defense training, First Aid and CPR, First Responders, Investigation, Conflict Resolution, Law Enforcement and Security Officers Training Academy preferred
Must present a neat, clean, and professional image
Well-developed public relations skills; be able to perform duties in a flexible, non-confrontational environment; work with members of a diverse community; and utilize diplomacy and tact in dealing with sensitive and confidential situations
Effectively operate a variety of equipment including portable radios, body worn cameras, computers, closed circuit and access control systems
Computer proficiency, experience with data entry and word processing, specifically with Google Drive, Microsoft Word and Excel, experience with records management and/or CAD systems preferred.
Ability to be reliable, responsible and dependable, and fulfill obligations
Proven ability to utilize discretion and maintain confidentiality
Valid Maine drivers license required, clear drivers history and must meet Colbys Fleet Safety Policy requirements

KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Reporting to the assistant director of security, this position has significant interactions with faculty, staff, students, and other outside constituencies.

APPLICANT EXAMINATION PROCESS:Because of the responsibilities and authority of a Marine Patrol Officer, the examination and selection process is extensive and thorough.The complete testing process consists of multiple evaluation phases.
ALERT TEST:Applicants must take and pass the ALERT Test prior to applying to the Department of Marine Resources for the position of Marine Patrol Officer. The Alert Test may be scheduled by calling the Maine Criminal Justice Academy at **************. There is a $50 fee for this test. Testing is generally scheduled for during the first and third weeks of every month at MCJA in Vassalboro. This test must meet MCJA's minimum passing score for entrance into the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program. Test Questions are multiple choice and fall within the categories of Writing Skills and Reading Comprehension.
+ PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST (PFT):Applicants must take and pass the PFT prior to applying to the Department of Marine Resources for the position of Marine Patrol Officer. The PFT may be scheduled by calling the Maine Criminal Justice Academy at **************. There is a $35 fee for this test. Testing is generally scheduled during the first and third weeks of the month at MCJA in Vassalboro. The PFT is a pass/fail test. The PFT consists of three events: a one minute timed push-up test, a one minute timed sit-up test, and a 1.5 mile run. + .APPLICATION EVALUATION:Completed applications received at the Department of Marine Resources will be held in order to be considered for the next screening interviews. Applications are reviewed to verify that each candidate meets the established minimum requirements listed on the Career Opportunity Bulletin. + SCREENING INTERVIEW:To be held at a date to be determined (Generally May and October) All applicants successfully meeting the Minimum Requirements and passing the Alert Test and PFT will be scheduled for a Screening Interview. The Screening Interview is a structured interview that evaluates applicant's skills in the areas of Commitment & Independence; Judgment & Logic; Decision Making/ Decisiveness; Tact & Diplomacy; and Communication Skills. The Screening Interview is based on a scoring system of zero to four, with zero being unsatisfactory and four being outstanding. Applicants must obtain a final converted score of 80 or higher to continue on in the testing process. The Screening Interview counts as 100% of the final score and will determine the ranking structure of the Employment Register
+ EMPLOYMENT REGISTER:To be established upon completion of the Screening Interview. Applicants who successfully pass all phases of the examination process will be placed on an Employment Register for this classification. Candidates remain active on this register for six (6) months beginning on the date that the register is finalized. Names will be drawn from this register for INTERVIEWS as positions become open.
+ NOTE:Each component of the Marine Patrol Direct Hire examination process must be completed successfully. Failure to successfully complete any component will result in disqualification from further consideration.
Employment is contingent upon the outcomes of a background check, polygraph examination, psychological examination, medical examination, and swim test. After a final interview, a job offer is made.
Conditions of Employment
A new Maine Marine Patrol Officer or trainee must:
+ Successfully complete a 18 week training program provided at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
+ Successfully complete advanced Marine Patrol in-house training.
+ Satisfactorily complete a 45 day field training program within the first 6 months of employment.
Note: It is important to remember that MPO's work out of their homes and are on call 24 hours a day while on duty status. In addition, MPOs work weekends and at times are required to work extended hours. The hours and nature of the environment to which officers must subject themselves can effect family and social activities. Although the nature of the work is demanding and often challenging, the rewards acquired in this type of work can be substantial.

This Transportation Security Officer position is located in Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). As a Transportation Security Officer (TSOs) within Security Operations (SO), you will provide security and protection of air travelers, airports and aircraft in a courteous and professional manner. Duties may include but are not limited to:
* Operating various screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo and on passengers, and preventing those objects from being transported onto aircraft.
* Performing searches and screening, which may include physical interaction with passengers (e.g., pat-downs, search of property, etc.), conducting bag searches and lifting/carrying bags, bins, and property weighing up to 50lbs.
* Controlling terminal entry and exit points.
* Interacting with the public, giving directions and responding to inquiries.
* Maintaining focus and awareness while working in a stressful environment which includes noise from alarms, machinery and people, crowd distractions, time pressure, and disruptive and angry passengers, in order to preserve the professional ability to identify and locate potentially life threatening or mass destruction devices, and to make effective decisions in both crisis and routine situations.
* Engaging in continuous development of critical thinking skills, necessary to mitigate actual and potential security threats, by identifying, evaluating, and applying appropriate situational options and approaches. This may include application of risk-based security screening protocols that vary based on program requirements.
