Employees at Miami Correctional Facility support the safe and secure operations of the facility 24 hours a day 7 days per week. Depending on operational needs, assignments will include working with state incarcerated individuals and/or federal detainees.
Role Overview:
As a CorrectionalOfficer at the Miami Correctional Facility, you will be responsible for working as a part of a team in a maximum security Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) facility for adult males. During a typical 12 hour shift, you will maintain the security of the unit as well as the safety of staff and incarcerated individuals, while ensuring daily activities and programs proceed on schedule. During the 2 week pay period, CorrectionalOfficers will work 85.75 hours. This consists of 7 total shifts, including 1 weekend.
Employees at Miami Correctional Facility support the safe and secure operations of the facility 24 hours a day 7 days per week. Depending on operational needs, assignments will include working with state incarcerated individuals and/or federal detainees.
Salary:
This position starts at a $22/hour base pay + $2/hour of differential pay, equating to $2,058.00 biweekly or $53,508.00 annually. Candidates with relevant experience may qualify for a higher base pay. These figures do not account for any overtime pay an employee may earn.
Eligible custody staff who complete required training and certification to perform federal detention duties will receive a $50 non-discretionary bonus for each shift that they are assigned those duties.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
* Monitor assigned areas at various intervals for security of incarcerated individuals, count of incarcerated individuals, and security of buildings and grounds.
* Follow and ensure compliance with established security procedures.
* Manage incarcerated individuals in various work details including general clean-up of institutional grounds and buildings.
* Escort incarcerated individuals to and from various locations across the facility for food, medicines, work assignments, and recreation.
* Keep records and make reports on such matters as incarcerated individuals movements, activities, and rule violations.

As a result of the duties associated with this job, there is the potential of becoming exposed to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious diseases. To safeguard employees and eliminate the liability placed on Hamilton County, employees working in this position shall begin the three shot Hepatitis B vaccination and subsequent training within 10 days of their initial job assignment per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1030(f)(2)(i). The initial and two subsequent vaccinations shall be administered by the Hamilton County Health Department and free of charge to the employee. If the employee has previously received the three shot Hepatitis B vaccination, official documentation must be provided to the supervisor identifying the dates in which each shot was appropriately administered. A Temporary Medical Declination may be made for a period of up to six months.
