General Medical Requirements: As determined by OPM the duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Arms, hands, legs and feet must function sufficiently in order for applicants to perform the duties satisfactorily.

* Recruitment Incentive: Applicants may be eligible for a $40,000 recruitment incentive in accordance with regulatory requirements. The first installment of $15,000 will be paid following successful completion of Secret Service Criminal Investigator training. A second installment of $10,000 will be paid following one year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. The final installment of $15,000 will be paid after a third year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. Provision of these payments require the execution of a three-year Continued Service Agreement (CSA) with the agency. Newly hired employees who resign from the USSS prior to the expiration of the CSA will be required to repay the recruitment incentive. (NOTE: Eligibility is limited to "Newly appointed" Federal employees as defined by 5 CFR 575.102).
Applicants selected for this position will be required to sign a CSA before being assigned to an initial training class. The CSA will commit the applicant to a specified period of employment with the Secret Service upon the successful completion of training.

STANDARDS
A. Physical Standards:
All entry-level officers must meet physical standards to qualify for membership in the Oklahoma Police Pension and Retirement System as set forth in the State of Oklahoma Administrative Code. In addition, Oklahoma City Police Recruits must meet a fitness level as established by the Director of Training.
B. Mental Standards:
An Applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent GED. The applicant should demonstrate acceptable reading, writing, and computational skills to successfully complete the college curriculum in the training academy and perform the assigned duties. Each applicant must pass the proficiency test as mandated by the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training.
C. Emotional Standards:
Police Officers most often work without detailed instruction or close supervision. B. Review of Rankings by Supervisory Board:
A board of police supervisors reviews the application material, evaluating the material and the applicant in order, to make a final employment recommendation to the Chief of Police.
C. Performance Review through Training and Probation:
The performance of applicants is a continual process from the Police Department Recruit Academy to the completion of the probationary period. A Field Training Officer and the immediate supervisor will monitor the probationary officer's job performance. The Field Training Program, therefore, is an extension of the Police Department Recruit Academy training process. The recruit will not be retained with the Department unless they have been evaluated as having the ability to apply all academy instruction to actual police service. In addition, the immediate supervisor on each officer completes an annual work performance evaluation.

Provide proactive law enforcement services for unlawful activities on SNU's main campus or off-campus locations. Provide knowledge and experience from a law enforcement standpoint in collaboration with other university departments.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
* Enforce applicable state, local, federal laws and campus policies.
* Conduct foot and mobile patrols of the campus, facilities and vicinity.
* Work special events on campus when a law enforcement presence is needed.
* Enforce parking and other university regulations; Respond to reports of criminal activity and accidents; write reports.
* Conduct field interviews.
* Write citations for traffic violations on city streets.
* Administer field training program and train new and tenured employees.
* Attend departmental training, as requested or required.
* Maintain accurate activity log; write & submit comprehensive reports.
* Provide emergency assistance during natural emergencies, fires, accidents, and personal injuries.
* Orally communicate campus regulations, rules and policies to members of the campus community and others on campus.
* Coordinate, with dispatchers and other officers, field activity via hand-held radio, and to receive information from such sources via hand-held radio.
* Provide transport and escort services to university officials and visiting dignitaries.
* Motorist Assist with lost key entries, jump starts and flat tires.
* Provide dispatch or departmental support services, as requested.
* Work collaboratively with other officers, staff, supervisors, and guests.
* Meet and maintain all standards and requirements for physical agility, strength and conditioning, and firearms, as required.
* Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
* Remain proficient with all training relating to the carry and use of firearms.
* Coordinate and provide support for parking and crowd management at major events on campus or off campus facilities.
* Assist law enforcement agencies with support and proper information in a timely manner regarding calls received and violation of laws on campus.
* Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

About this Position
The Detention Officer I is a jailer job for the Edmond Detention Center that requires 24/7 operations, so shifts include holidays AND weekends with frequent overtime. Detention Officers book inmates into the Edmond Detention Center (requiring hands-on contact with inmates), check for drugs or weapons, physically restrain inmates as needed, supervise the well-being of inmates, and clean inmate areas. Shifts are assigned by seniority and are 12-hours long (officers work 3 1/2 days a week).
This position operates within a department that requires 24/7 operations, so the schedule for this role consists of working shifts with frequent overtime and shifts on holidays and weekends.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent
12 to 18 months of related experience and/or training
Or
equivalent combination of education and experience
Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
Responsibilities
Monitor inmate behavior and ensure their safety and security
Process/release inmates from the Detention Center
Answer telephone calls and take accurate messages for officers
Dispense personal and cell cleaning equipment
Search inmates & cells for contraband items
Ensure the care and maintenance of quarters
Write medical, incident, and/or activity report(s) on a daily basis
Complete data entry into software system
Fingerprint citizens and employees per request
Participate in required job-related training
