The base salary range for this position is $87,158.54 - $100,736.42. The salary listed above includes a 4% first responder supplement and a $500 bi-weekly aviation supplement. This position requires you to be a Florida Certified Law Enforcement Officer. If you are not a Florida Certified Law Enforcement Officer, and you are successful with the selection process, you must be willing to be hired as a Law Enforcement Cadet at a reduced salary ($2187.04 biweekly) and attend a 5 month police academy at Broward College. Upon successful completion of police academy and Florida state exam you will be deemed a Certified Law Enforcement Officer in the state of Florida. Salary will increase to step 1 of the Deputy Sheriff range ($61,969 annually). Upon completion of Field Training, employee will be transferred to the Aviation Unit and receive an increase in salary ($87,159 annually*). Two year commitment to Aviation Unit required upon employment or completion of police academy.

* Must possess and maintain throughout employment, a valid Florida driver license without any restrictions affecting job performance. Driver license must show current address. All candidates must submit with the application, a Certified Department of Motor Vehicles "entire" driving history.
* Florida driving histories can be obtained at any courthouse in Broward County. Three (3) year, seven (7) year, and online Florida driving history records will not be accepted.
* If you have possessed a driver's license in any other state in the past ten (10) years you will need to submit an "entire" driving history from that state. For non-Florida driving histories, please contact that state's division of motor vehicles.
* The search date for all driving histories must be within one month of the date the application for employment is received by the Bureau of Human Resources.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
* CFI and CFII Rotorcraft-Helicopter rated.
* Prior law enforcement helicopter experience, experience in law enforcement, investigations or security work. Equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
* Successful completion of a factory school for the current model and type of aircraft/helicopter operated by the agency.
* Flight experience in current model and type of aircraft/helicopter operated by the agency; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
* Trained and qualified in the use of Aviator's Night Vision Imaging System.
* One hundred fifty (150) hours rotorcraft-helicopter flight time within the previous twelve (12) months.

Under administrative direction, this position performs flight operations within the Aviation Division of the Department of Law Enforcement. Employees in this classification are sworn law enforcement officers. Employees in this classification command and operate helicopters during specialized and selective law enforcement activities. Work involves an element of personal danger and employees must be able to act without direct supervision and to exercise independent discretion in addressing emergency situations. When applicable to area of assignment, operates a law enforcement vehicle; may be assigned to operate aircraft; may be assigned to operate marine vessels; may be assigned to mounted unit.
Employees in this classification are assigned to work shifts which will include weekends, holidays, and extended emergency activation events (i.e. hurricanes). Employees must have the ability to work any shift and engage in flexible work assignments that can include voluntary and/or mandatory overtime to meet agency needs.
Performs related duties as directed.
Compliance with minimum training and standards of an accredited certification institution as set forth by the recommended FDLE guidelines and CJSTC. Tasks include a criticality component, in responding to crime scenes or other critical incidents, whereby incumbents are required to maintain physical abilities consistent with CJSTC standards in order to perform essential duties as outlined herein on an as needed basis. Emphasis does not consider percentage (%) of time allocated to performing essential functions. Rather incumbents maintain CJSTC physical standards in order to perform essential functions at any point during compensatory time regardless of allocated percentage (%) of time to any one duty.
Depending on functional area of assignment, the following physical requirements may apply:
* Tasks involve the intermittent performance of extremely physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, running, climbing, and that may involve the dragging, pushing, and/or pulling of extremely heavy objects, such as in the event of chasing and subduing a suspect resisting arrest.
* Tasks may involve standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Some tasks are performed with potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements including, but not limited to, heat, humidity, inclement weather, loud noise, toxic/chemical agents, electrical currents, pathogens, violent behavior, weapons, explosives, animals. Tasks include working around moving parts, vehicles, equipment, carts, and materials handling, where extremely heightened awareness to surroundings and environment is essential in the preservation of life and property. Tasks may include regular exposure to traffic conditions, where heightened awareness to surroundings and observance of established safety precautions is essential in avoidance of injury or accidents. Standard body gear and equipment applies in the preservation of life and property, as does special equipment based on assignment including, but not limited to, various types of body armor and safety gear.

* Possess a current valid driver's license. Must be REAL ID compliant.

* Sign a mobility agreement stating your willingness to accept assignments anywhere within the United States and overseas.
* Certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so, if you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959.
* Must have uncorrected vision of at least 20/100, correctable to 20/20 in each eye. LASIK, ALK, RK, and PRK surgeries are acceptable if required post-surgery visual tests are passed: Lasik (3 months), PRK (6 months), ALK/RK (1 year) waiting periods apply.
* Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500,1000 and 2000Hz ranges.
Qualifications

General Medical Requirements: As determined by OPM the duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of fingers, wrist, elbows, shoulders, hips and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs and feet must function sufficiently in order for applicants to perform the duties satisfactorily.

* Recruitment Incentive: Applicants may be eligible for a $40,000 recruitment incentive in accordance with regulatory requirements. The first installment of $15,000 will be paid following successful completion of Secret Service Criminal Investigator training. Ensures that all facility youth clothing is properly cared for, stored, and accounted for. Ensures that all youth have clean socks and underwear on a daily basis. Strictly accountable for assigning staff to search youth at admission and properly receives and accounts for the paperwork. Ensures proper use of the washing machines by staff.
Coordinates, directs and monitors daily workload for the facility, staff and youth. Maintains effective supervision of youth and staff throughout all areas of the facility, ensuring safety and security.
Properly and promptly communicates with fellow supervisory staff on the granting of any type of leave to subordinate staff to ensure that all the shift supervisors on a shift are aware of the daily staffing patterns. Ensures coverage is made for any staff that is granted leave.
Successfully completes training requirements to maintain proficiency on the proper methods for dispensing medications to the youth. Properly dispenses medications according to accepted practices. Responsible for ensuring sick call list and any unusual medical problems are brought to the attention of the facility nurse.
This position works a non-traditional schedule and may be required to work various shifts based on the needs of the facility.

Attends and successfully completes all training required by DJJ's Direct Care Training Policy and other training as assigned and required.
In case of an emergency, will use the Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), and First Aid techniques and procedures taught during certification training.
Ensures that all Central Communication Center (CCC) reportable incidents are reported on a timely basis. Completes all documentation and keeps administration informed of any issues. Assists the Assistant Superintendent with internal investigations as needed.
Reviews all daily facility reports and logs completed by staff each working day for timeliness and accuracy. Ensures that he/she and subordinate staff use and review all relevant JJIS and DFMS reports.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Officers carry out these responsibilities by: patrolling an assigned area; responding to emergency calls; resolving conflicts; engaging in community policing and community relations, investigating crimes; rendering medical assistance; writing reports (using, software, computers, portable technology devices, and mobile data computers); handling crises or stressful situations, which may involve juveniles, the elderly, or the disabled; testifying in court; and enforcing Florida State laws and City Ordinances. Officers do this individually and sometimes as a member of a team, under direction of a supervisor. Testing Selection Process:
* Testing Requirements: Applicants must pass all required pre-employment tests, which may take up to one year to complete. If an applicant fails any part of the process, they will not move forward in the selection process but may reapply after one year from the failure date.
* Required Tests:
* CJ BAT Test: Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (must pass within 4 years).
* Basic Motor Skills Test and Swim Test: Applicants must present a signed Physician's Statement for the Basic Motor Skills Test, completed by a Florida-licensed physician within 90 days prior to the test.
* The City of Plantation will facilitate testing after your application is reviewed and you've passed the oral interview.
* Oral Board: Only applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will proceed to the oral interview.
* Required Testing: Certified applicants by FDLE only need to take the Basic Motor Skills and Swim Test (if not already submitted). Non-certified applicants must complete all required tests.
* CVSA Examination: Following a conditional job offer, applicants will undergo a polygraph examination assessing:
