CorrectionalOfficer I: Minimum - Offenders at these facilities require a minimum amount of oversight, they are permitted to enter/exit cells without permission during certain times of the day.
CorrectionalOfficer II: Medium - Offenders at these facilities do not require as much oversight as those at Close facilities but require more supervision than those at Minimum facilities.
CorrectionalOfficer III: Close - Offenders at these facilities always require close supervision. Movement throughout the prison is heavily controlled.

CorrectionalOfficer Responsibilities:
Ensure the care, custody, and control of offenders.
Officers must tour assigned areas which will require:

identify offenders who have behavioral, medical, or other problems so that appropriate safety and security measures may be taken.

monitor and regulate offender and staff movement.

Employees must adhere to an appearance and grooming standard. Every employee is mandated to be in compliance with this policy.
WORK SCHEDULE:
This is a full-time position. However, employees must be able to work any shift including rotating, fixed shift, or split shift. All shifts may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required.

Detention Officer - Already Certified Salary and Incentives:
Hourly rate for DOCC certified officers begins at $25.33 per hour (approximately $55,219 annually) up to $30.37 per hour (approximately $63,175 annually) based upon experience, education, military service and fluency in a foreign language.
Primary Duties:
* The Detention Officer is responsible for custodial duties associated with the transportation, security and supervision of prisoners in the Wake County Detention Center (WCDC) and the Wake County Public Safety Center (PSC)
* Detention Officers perform a variety of duties ranging from direct supervision, control desk, inmate escorts, K-9, and transportation of inmates
* Work is performed in accordance with the Wake County Sheriff's Office policies and procedures, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and the Training and Standards Council of the Department of Justice of North Carolina
* Work is performed under the direct supervision of that employee's squad or area supervisor

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
* Must possess North Carolina detention officer certification (not corrections certification)
* Must be at least 20 years old
* Must be a citizen of the United States
* Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

* Must be willing to relocate within an hour response time to the Wake County Detention Center
Candidates must undergo an extensive background investigation including, but not limited to, physical fitness assessment, reading test, medical exam, drug screen, and psychological exam. The candidate must meet all the applicable standards with the North Carolina Sheriff's Training and Standards Commission as well as the policies of the Wake County Sheriff's Office.
Detention Officer candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of physical ability and fitness by completing the Wake County Sheriff's Office's Physical Agility Test (SOPAT). The test consists of running 40 meters, climbing up and down stairs, completing 10 pushups, and simulating rolling/moving an adult-sized object. The purpose of this physical test is to simulate and measure an officer's physical ability to respond to a critical incident and apprehend or potentially control a prisoner/suspect.

Review and provide input on security design criteria, access control features, and physical protection measures in alignment with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC 4-010-01) and DoD Anti-Terrorism Standards.

Minimum Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship; must be eligible for a DoD security clearance (Secret or higher preferred).
Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, Security Management, Construction Management or Engineering or related field (equivalent military/law enforcement experience may be considered).
AT Level II certification (minimum); other relevant certifications such as Physical Security (PS), Certified Protection Professional (CPP), or Military Police preferred.

Primary Duties:
* Perform custodial duties associated with the transportation, security and supervision of prisoners in the Wake County Detention Center (WCDC) and the Wake County Public Safety Center (PSC)
* Perform a variety of duties ranging from direct supervision, control desk, inmate escorts, K-9, and transportation of inmates
* Perform work in accordance with the Wake County Sheriff's Office policies and procedures, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and the Training and Standards Council of the Department of Justice of North Carolina
* Perform work under the direct supervision of the employee's squad or area supervisor
* The applicant must be willing to work 12-hour shifts which include nights, holidays and weekends

Inspect the school campus at least four times per shift and interact with school community members (students, employees, parents) on an ongoing basis to develop relationships, identify potential issues that need to be addressed, and ensure policies and procedures are being properly executed.
Act as the first responder to school emergencies and crises and provide necessary assistance and support to all involved.
Conduct regular safety patrols and pro-actively addressing concerns or questions within scope of work.
Write incident reports for any of the following: thefts, vehicle accidents, personal injuries, suspicious persons, vandalism, property damage, assaults, threats, false alarms, altercations that should be documented, the calling of fire, EMS, or police for any reason.
Ensure the locking of perimeter doors at the appropriate time and monitor the school's camera system via iPad or desktop.
Ensure all persons on campus are identifiable with the presence of a visible student, staff, visitor, parent, or contractor badge.
Monitor the activity of visiting groups for facilities rentals and contact the Associate Director of Campus Operations with concerns or issues.
Utilize events manager to input security related information regarding special events.
Utilize the work order system to record issues such as fire hazards, leaks, malfunctioning of any equipment or lighting that is causing a safety or security concern.
Be the primary contact for parking during school events with the assistance of other Campus Operations staff.
Secondary responsibilities:
Contribute to a community environment by maintaining a visible and approachable presence and engaging with students, employees, and others on campus without bias.
Educate and re-direct students, employees, and visitors as needed.
In conjunction with manager, identifies and pursues ongoing professional development. Completes all required administrative, operational, and professional development tasks and activities in a responsive and timely manner per school operating policies and procedures. Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The individual in this position must possess the following knowledge, and/or skills:
High school diploma and 3 years of previous security experience; or combined equivalency.
Demonstrated skills in effectively responding to and managing through challenging emergency situations.
Valid NC Driver's license in good standing.
If not already certified, must be able to be certified and maintain certifications in the following areas: First Aid/CPR & AED, Non-Violent Crisis Prevention, Trauma Informed Care.
Exceptional writing, oral and interpersonal skills including conflict management and collaboration skills.
Experience working with children & youth in a diverse workplace preferred.
Computer skills utilizing Internet and Microsoft applications and report writing experience.

WORK SCHEDULE
Days: In general, this position is scheduled to work on campus year-round, but is expected to work as necessary to ensure that position responsibilities are consistently met. There may be certain work requirements that could result in the need for temporary modification of this schedule.
Hours: This position is scheduled to work 5pm-10pm Monday-Friday. The actual times worked are determined by the supervisor and may fluctuate given the nature and seasonality of this position and are determined in coordination with the Campus Safety Manager and Director of Campus Operations.
