Duties
During the course of their careers, Uniformed Division Officers carry out assignments in protection. Duties include:
Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area.
Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.
Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.

The Role

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
Court Investigator:
* Conducts investigations into guardianship cases, guardian complaints, and prepares reports with investigative findings; investigates and prepares reports as to the appropriateness of guardianship and whether or not a less restrictive alternative exists.
* Serves notice upon subjects of guardianship/conservatorship proceedings.
* Serves documents upon individuals that are alleged to be a person with a mental illness subject to court order.
* Investigates whether or not there is a continued need for a guardianship; investigates and identifies potential successor guardians; uses online data bases and other sources of information to find unresponsive guardians.
* Reviews guardian's annual reports and statements of expert evaluation.
* Coordinates and maintains contacts with community agencies and boards, other courts, nursing facilities and other health care facilities; provides testimony in court proceedings; gathers, organizes, and analyzes guardianship data.
* Works with families, social workers, hospitals and attorneys to complete investigations of parties, family, and youth as ordered by the Judge and Magistrates.
* Provides the Judge and Magistrates with complete social histories and investigative findings that aid in the disposition of primarily custody related matters and in some instances, abuse, neglect, dependency cases and other investigations as ordered by the Court including certifications from other counties or other courts.
* Conducts home visits and inspects residences as ordered by the Judge and Magistrates and reports findings to the Court both verbally and in writing.
* Conducts kinship and family member investigations, collects and reports information to the Court.
* Makes appropriate referrals to law enforcement, child welfare and adult protective agencies, and community partners.
* Complies with all requests for information, which may include random drug testing, and reports findings.
* Interviews age appropriate minors during the course of an investigation to help validate findings.
* Documents investigations, prepares formal reports, and testifies as needed for assigned cases.
* Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and innovations within the field of court investigation, and completes continuing education.
Bailiff and Court Security Officer:
* Provides back-up for Court Security, Bailiff and/or Transport Officer duties, as needed or assigned.
* Other duties as assigned by the Judge, Magistrates and/or Court Administrator.
* Assists with oversight of security issues and daily operations for the Probate-Juvenile Court.
* Assists with coordinating daily bailiff courtroom coverage, answers inquiries and directs staff and the public as needed, all while ensuring docket compliance and timeliness.
* Prepares courtroom prior to proceedings, opens and closes Court, maintains decorum and order inside and outside the courtroom, administers oaths, and provides other courtroom functions as directed by the Judge and/or Magistrates.
* Digitally records proceedings with annotations and facilitates video conferencing as needed.
* Enforces orders of the Court, serves Court papers, and processes paperwork as needed or directed.
* Responsible for the collection, recording, maintenance, and destruction of courtroom evidence in accordance with the law.
* Maintains open communication with the Judge, Magistrates, Court staff, attorneys, parties, families, youth, outside agencies, and the public.
* Maintains a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
* Provides safety and security support and training for Court staff and departments.
* Assists with supervision of Checkpoint Court Security Officers and provides back up as needed.
* Conducts searches of persons and property when necessary and warranted.
* Assists with installation, monitoring, and maintenance of security cameras and equipment necessary to monitor security in the Courthouse and at A.R.C.
* Assists with development of policies and procedures for security related issues within the Court and maintains compliance with said policies and procedures.
* Investigates incidents occurring in the Courthouse, at A.R.C., and surrounding grounds, and reports and documents any incidents or security issues.
* Responds to emergency situations and directs staff and public accordingly.
* Conducts criminal record checks for persons of interests and those with official Court involvement and maintains an internal database and information on potential security threats.
* Assists the Probation Department and law enforcement as deemed necessary, including but not limited to, detaining, handcuffing, monitoring, escorting, and transporting youth and adults when needed.
* Wears an approved uniform, carries an approved firearm, and provides proof of training, certification and annual firearm requalification.
* Coordinates fingerprinting for the Court for both juvenile conviction reporting and Webcheck.
* Ensures that Court files and documents are properly maintained, pulls case files for the Judge and Magistrates prior to scheduled hearings, and ensures files are returned to the correct office for processing.
* Performs other duties as needed and/or assigned.
Program: Court of Common Pleas, Probate - Juvenile Division Brief Description:
This position is a blended position within the Court. As Court Investigator, this position researches, evaluates, conducts investigations, and prepares reports regarding court ordered matters for the Licking County Probate-Juvenile Court, to include, but not limited to, conservatorships, guardianships, and/or custody matters. As Bailiff and Court Security Officer, this position provides safety, security, and order in the courtrooms and at the courthouse. This position interacts with a variety of court staff, judicial officers, litigants, family members, the public, and other community agencies and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified individuals must be twenty-one (21) years of age, must possess a high school diploma, and shall hold a bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, education, special education, or a related human services field. Experience in family services, law enforcement, social services, legal and/or investigations is preferred and the education requirement can be waived with equivalent experience. It is preferred that candidates either have a current Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy (OPOTA) certificate, including up-to-date firearms qualification, or the ability to obtain certification within the first year of employment. This position additionally requires an individual to possess or obtain certification in x-ray scanning, First Aid, CPR, and AED. A valid State Operator's License is required. Probate Court Investigator training must be completed within one year of employment. Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel, are required.

Uniform and Equipment: This position is required to wear a Court approved uniform and be certified to carry a semi-automatic pistol. Knowledge and certification is required to operate an X-ray scanner, metal detector and wand, audio and visual surveillance system, two-way radio, computer, and a telephone.
