Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a University Parking Enforcement Officer 1 for the Parking and Transportation Department. **This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. This position will be responsible for patrolling all parking areas within the UNR jurisdiction and enforcing the UNR parking rules and regulations. The position provides the opportunity for progression to a University Parking Enforcement Officer 2 after a minimum one-year training period and is proficient in performing Officer in Charge duties during special events.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
Patrol assigned campus areas to enforce parking rules and regulations;
Issue parking citations or courtesy warnings when a violation is observed;
Patrol and provide a safe presence in parking lots and garages;
Locate lost, stolen, and counterfeit permits and take necessary action;
Work special events, directing the flow of traffic, set up and take down of cones, barricades, and signs;
Resolve traffic problems;
Diffuse and deescalate situations with customers that have received citations as well as explain the rules and regulations;
Perform vehicle assist such as, key retrieval, dead batteries, and flat tires; and
Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one (1) year of experience in public contact work which included obtaining, clarifying or giving facts or information.
A valid Class “C” driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with strong customer service skills and special event experience are encouraged to apply.
Physical Demands
This position requires walking or standing to a significant degree and pushing and/or pulling. Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
This position requires the ability to see, hear, and communicate through speech.
This position will have exposure to hot and cold temperatures when working outside. Due to events occurring after normal business hours, the workday may exceed 14 hours.
Schedule
The typical work schedule is Monday through Thursday from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm and Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. This position is required to work all UNR home football games, basketball games and large special events.
This position is designated as Essential Personnel. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.
Compensation Grade
Grade 22
In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.

Reporting to the Regional Director, the Asset Protection Agent serves as a key member of the Operations Department, responsible for supporting the organization's efforts to deter and prevent theft, fraud, and loss of company assets across retail locations. This role involves proactive observation, investigation, and enforcement of company policies while maintaining a strong focus on safety, integrity, and customer service.
The Asset Protection Agent upholds and promotes the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organization at all times, ensuring that all actions align with company standards and legal guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Monitor, report, and address physical security concerns that may pose risks to employees, customers, or company assets.
• Conduct covert surveillance and apprehend individuals suspected of shoplifting in accordance with company policy and applicable laws.
• Serve as a visible deterrent to theft by maintaining a professional presence and engaging with customers on the sales floor when not working in a covert capacity.
• Collaborate with store management to identify habitual offenders and issue verbal or written trespass notices as appropriate.
• Detain and process individuals involved in significant theft incidents or repeat offenses for prosecution in coordination with local law enforcement.
• Partner with law enforcement agencies to support investigations and prosecutions of criminal activity involving company assets.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of legal standards related to citizen arrests and ensure all apprehensions are performed within those boundaries.
• Prepare detailed and accurate reports and documentation for both internal records and responding law enforcement agencies.
• Conduct all apprehensions and investigations with employee safety as the highest priority, adhering strictly to company policies and procedures.
• Conduct follow-up investigations on theft incidents and fraud cases, in coordination with internal teams.
• Utilize CCTV and other surveillance tools to monitor high-risk areas and identify suspicious activity.
• Gather and preserve evidence (video footage, witness statements, reports) for legal or internal review.
• Identify, observe, and report unsafe conditions or practices to Store Management, Regional Management, or the Senior Director of Asset Protection.
• Observe and report any employee violations of company policies or procedures to the appropriate management personnel.
• Assist with employee bag checks and personal property inspections in partnership with Store Management and the Senior Director of Asset Protection.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of one year's experience in retail Asset Protection-related field.
• Flexible working hours to include evenings and weekends.
• Strong understanding of theft deterrence strategies and investigative techniques.
• Working knowledge of relevant laws and procedures concerning theft prevention and detainment.
• PC proficiency using Word and Excel; experience with using the Internet and Outlook is a must.
• Must possess excellent organizational skills and effective time management.
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
