Job Summary:
The ideal candidates will have an understanding of and experience in using Motivational Interviewing, case management, and program tracking. COIII's will be required to deliver programs and training to offenders in a residential treatment facility (heretofore referred to as residents), interact with residents, assist residents with resources, and track information and statistics. Schedules are subject to non-traditional hours and days and will include evening and weekend work. This position requires staff that has the ability to adapt to change quickly and is flexible and balanced in their approach to offender management.

Job Duties:
Works under general supervision from a Project Manager (PM) or Correctional Administrator. Serves as the intake point of contact for new arrivals to the Reentry Center. Schedules meetings with residents as needed; evaluates and recommends program review; concludes and makes recommendations on all resident participation and amenability to remain in the center. Coordinates recommends and facilitates recreation, self-improvement programs, and rehabilitation; conducts reentry activities to transition residents from supervision to community; reviews/provides recommendations on treatment programs, educational programs, and community supervision programs. Documents issues, progress, and history and maintains case log/Arizona Correctional Information System (ACIS) records.
Individual positions may be responsible for some or all of the listed duties and/or other related duties. Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of: principles and practices of social or correctional casework and facilitation. Principles and practices of treatment, custody, and community supervision. Principles and practices of interpersonal communication, dynamics of human behavior, and crisis intervention. Practices and methods of compiling and maintaining case histories, summaries, and records. Practices and methods of security techniques, discipline systems, and programs of a correctional/community supervision facility. Practices and methods of a variety of recreation/activities such as indoor and outdoor sports, games, arts and crafts, group social activities, and health and physical education. Federal, State, and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing community supervision.
Skill in/Ability to: methods and techniques of correctional casework, interpersonal relationships, rehabilitation, and crisis intervention. Methods and techniques of security and discipline programs of an institution. Methods and practices of developing and implementing recreation/activities. Verbal and written communications as required by the work activities in a correctional/community supervision facility. Applying the Federal, State, and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing community supervision. Providing guidance, direction, and crisis intervention in a timely and productive manner; functioning as liaison in providing interactive services and assisting residents with personal, educational, and career goals; preparing and maintaining files and records in the prescribed manner; serving as a program coordinator of residents; incentive and rehabilitation programs.
WORK CONDITIONS: Shift work; extended sitting; extensive reading and writing. Some light lifting with occasional heavy demands. May be exposed to hazards associated with the security and guidance of inmates.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR TRANSFER: Employees must currently be a Correctional Officer III with the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry have worked a minimum of 12 months at their current division/institution, and received at least a meets expectations overall rating on most recent performance evaluation.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION - Must receive a rating of meets expectations or better.
SUSPENSION - Suspension during one year prior to announcement, ineligible for one promotional cycle.
DEMOTION - Ineligible to apply for two years from the date of demotion.
You MUST maintain the above additional requirements to remain in the recruitment process.
Some positions require a medical/physical evaluation, psychological examination, pre-employment drug screening, and a background investigation prior to appointment. A current Arizona driver's license appropriate to the assignment is required at the time of appointment. As a condition of continued employment, employees in a safety-sensitive position may be subject to random drug testing, as required by Department Policy.
Selected candidates must successfully complete the seven-week Correctional Officer Training Academy and graduate from a one-week Correctional Officer III Academy. The Correctional Officer III Academy may be completed after graduation from the Correctional Officer Training Academy during the first three months of employment.

Detention Trainee Qualifications
Minimum education and/or experience:
High school diploma or GED, or are expected to graduate/receive GED within the next 90 days.
Must be eighteen (18) years of age.

Specialized training, certifications, and/or other special requirements:
Applicants must possess, or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire, a valid Arizona driver's license.
Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all applicants complete the following: background investigation; polygraph exam; medical exam with attestation of physical readiness and psychological exam.
Training to be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 AND 700, safety, payroll and PREA.
Additionally, post hire participation in a 12-week paid detention academy is required and which includes successfully demonstrating physical readiness by completing a series of assessments with the requisite results in order to graduate the academy and remain employed. A seven-battery assessment became effective November 1, 2015.

Working conditions:
Job requires the ability to work any shift due to detention facilities operating 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Job requires ability to: perform sprints, jumping and vaulting tasks; perform lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling; move quickly around objects and obstacles in pursuit situations; and pursue, extract and use force in both short intense effort and sustained effort situations. Actual situations may require efforts beyond the following:
Perform lifting and carrying that may include lifting heavy and awkward objects weighing 50 lbs. or more; carrying heavy and awkward equipment and objects 10 to 60 ft.; and carrying equipment weighing 20 to 50 lbs. up and down stairs Perform dragging movements that may include extracting victims weighing up to 175 lbs. and dragging victims, objects or suspects weighing up to 175 lbs., 20 to 30 ft.

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS:
Conducts security walks and head counts which involves standing, stair climbing, and walking for long periods of time.
Performs facility and inmate cell searches which involve stooping, kneeling, crouching, lying down and crawling under bunks, lifting and climbing to reach all areas of the cell and facility including climbing ladders/stairs to reach overhead sky lights, attic crawl spaces, rooftops, etc.
Performs searches of inmates and visitors which includes touching and feeling clothing to detect weapons and contraband; also includes the ability to squat, stoop, stretch, bend to floor level to search pant legs, socks, and shoes.
Performs frisk and strip searches of inmates which includes visually observing unclothed inmates to detect weapons and contraband.
Conducts continual visual surveillance of inmates and various areas of detention facilities which involves prolonged sitting, twisting, and bending to view various monitors.
Provides inmate services such as recreation (spending several hours exposed to outdoor elements), serving meals, visitation, and clothing exchanges which involves lifting food trays, beverage containers, canteen bags, and bundles of laundry weighing up to 80 lbs. and requires bending, stooping, and kneeling.
Quickly selects and correctly operates appropriate buttons, touch screen control monitors, switches, and knobs used to control doors, sliders, and communication systems while maintaining emotional control under extreme stress.
Pursues fleeing inmates on foot which involves running, climbing, jumping, bending, stooping, and crawling over a prolonged distance.
Monitors and controls all activities regarding inmate movement which could include escorting/walking inmates for long distances to various locations within or outside of the jail facility.
Uses body force, ranging from mild to extreme, to gain entrance through barriers to gain entrance through barriers to seize or rescue inmates.
Subdues or restrains resisting inmates using hands and feet while employing defensive tactics or approved non-lethal weapons which may include kneeling, bending, or stooping as well as lifting the inmate following restraint.
Responds quickly to emergency situations that may include physically restraining combative inmates, lifting and carrying inmates during a medical crisis; escorting inmates up and down stairs to evacuate areas while wearing emergency equipment; or putting on air pack for a fire emergency to enter smoke-filled areas appropriately by stooping or crawling, select and open fire extinguishers/hoses and physically removing inmates from danger, which may include dragging unconscious victims (averaging 180 pounds).
Performs basic first aid procedures and cardiopulmonary resuscitation which involves kneeling and bending.
Gathers information for investigations by interviewing and obtaining the statements of the victims, witnesses, suspects, and confidential informants.
Appropriately utilizes technology to prepare electronic Operations Journal Entries (log book), or when necessary hand write information to produce legible reports, using standard grammar, punctuation, symbols, and simple mathematical functions.
Inspect and inventories security equipment through testing which includes pressing buttons, turning switches, and lifting/turning equipment.
Operates telephones, electronic equipment, fingerprint equipment, ADP time recorders/clocks, cameras, video recording devices, scanners, copiers, and fax machines which involve turning electronic knobs and typing for computer/data entry.
Communicates effectively over radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications, often under adverse conditions.
Communicates verbally and effectively, in areas with the potential of high noise levels, by listening and providing information, direction and commands to inmates and/or the general public to manage interpersonal conflict and maintain order.
Exercises independent judgment within legal guidelines which involves reading and comprehending rules, regulations, policies and procedures for purpose of insuring appropriate officer behavior/response involving the general public.
Subdues resisting inmates using approved non-lethal weapons, i.e., pepper spray (chemical discharge containing Oleo resin capsicum), and conducted electrical weapon (short duration exposure containing 50,000 volts and up to .004 amps).
Manually unlocks and opens 8' X 12' metal gates to allow vehicles to enter the jail grounds.
Ability to work any shift due to detention facilities operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with regular days off generally being any two consecutive days during the week.
Performs perimeter checks in a vehicle and/or on foot.
Provides courtroom security and document judicial information, i.e. bond information, sentence, and release information.
Inventories inmate belongings such as clothing and personal property for transport to other facilities which involves standing for long periods of time, lifting, and climbing a ladder while carrying semi-heavy bags of clothing.
Ensures legal documentation pertinent to an arrest/release is complete and provided to the appropriate departments/divisions/units, i.e. court, court desk, facility which involves proofreading, standing for long periods of time and communication with outside agencies including police and probation departments.
Uses a computerized cash accounting system to maintain an accurate account of inmates' funds; may be required to open or close an account which involves sitting for extended periods of time and having the ability to use the computer and other electronic equipment.
Be present at work site to perform assigned tasks at the times and dates scheduled/assigned by the supervisor.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
The Maricopa County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates who are considered the most highly qualified. The hiring authority will consider candidates from a list provided by the Human Resources Department. Candidates referred for consideration by the department will be required to successfully complete a comprehensive background check, polygraph examination, psychological screening and medical screening with attestation of physical readiness. Upon successful completion of these requirements, all hired candidates are required to participate in and successfully complete a 12-week Detention Academy, which includes Physical Readiness Assessments, to continue employment as a Detention Officer.
Physical Readiness Assessments consist of sit-ups, push-ups, a 1.5 mile walk/run, 300 meter run, bench press, vertical jump and an agility run. The assessments are designed to ensure that individuals can successfully perform the physical demands of the Detention Officer position. If hired to participate in the Detention Academy, in order to continue employment, probationary academy candidates must meet Physical Readiness Standards prior to graduation from the 12-week Detention Academy, which are:
Sit-ups - 16 in under one minute
Push-ups - 11
1.5 mile run/walk - in under 21 minutes 48 seconds
300 meter run - in under 1 minute 37 seconds
Bench press - one repetition of 90 pounds or 53% of body weight, whichever lesser
Agility run - in under 22.6 seconds
Vertical jump - 11 inches (or 14 inches if measured with VERTEC)

Qualifications

It is a physical fitness assessment which consists of four components (push-ups, sit-ups, Illinois Agility Run and a 1.5 Mile Run). General Medical Requirements: As determined by OPM the duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of fingers, wrist, elbows, shoulders, hips and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs and feet must function sufficiently in order for applicants to perform the duties satisfactorily.

* Recruitment Incentive: Applicants may be eligible for a $40,000 recruitment incentive in accordance with regulatory requirements. The first installment of $15,000 will be paid following successful completion of Secret Service Criminal Investigator training. A second installment of $10,000 will be paid following one year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. The final installment of $15,000 will be paid after a third year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. Provision of these payments require the execution of a three-year Continued Service Agreement (CSA) with the agency. Newly hired employees who resign from the USSS prior to the expiration of the CSA will be required to repay the recruitment incentive. Detention Officer Trainee/Detention Officer
Correction officer job in Mesa, AZ
The current recruitment will be used to fill vacancies at either the Detention Officer Trainee or Detention Officer level in the Mesa Police Department, depending on work experience. This recruitment will also establish Eligible Lists which may be used to fill future vacancies. All vacancies are for the Transport Assignment.
The City of Mesa is excited to offer a hiring bonus of $2,000.00 for this position. Half of the bonus ($1,000.00) will be paid after 30 days of hire and the second half ($1,000.00) will be paid upon successful completion of Mesa's Detention Officer training program.

Detention Officer Trainee ($50,979.97 - $72,855.12)
A Detention Officer Trainee learns to perform the full scope of duties of a Detention Officer through a structured, on-the-job training program in accordance with established procedures and requirements set forth in federal/state laws, City ordinances, and department orders. Duties that are learned include: taking custody of inmates from arresting officers; booking inmates into the City jail by completing required documentation and forms; fingerprinting inmates; verifying the identification of persons in custody and checking for outstanding warrants; escorting inmates to and from court and processing necessary paperwork; handling video arraignment court sessions for inmates; coordinating and communicating with other jail facilities regarding inmate transfer and movement; performing field drug testing on drugs found on the individual; processing evidence discovered on inmate; applying electronic monitoring devices to inmates per court orders; and bonding out inmates according to established guidelines. A Detention Officer Trainee learns to be responsible for the security and welfare of inmates, which involves providing meals and dispensing medicine, as well as maintaining the jail. This class is responsible for performing related duties as required.
This is a civilian, trainee class that works in the City's detention facility, which operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days per week. Training received is in an academy format and requires learning and applying specific knowledge and skills relative to the booking, detention, and release of adult inmates. As training progresses, employees are expected to demonstrate the ability to work independently and exercise good judgment under pressure in order to maintain a secure and orderly detention facility. An employee in this class is subject to verbal and physical abuse from inmates, required to physically search inmates, and use sufficient legal force to restrain violent/combative/mentally ill inmates. Supervision is received from a Detention Sergeant. An employee can progress to the classification of Detention Officer after successful completion of training and achievement of satisfactory performance evaluations. Employees in this class work rotating shifts, including holidays and weekends. This class is FLSA nonexempt.
Transport Assignment: One of the responsibilities of the holding facility and its detention staff is the transporting of inmates to and from the county jail and other law enforcement agencies. This assignment requires a Detention Officer Trainee to carry a firearm, complete additional training, and complete and maintain firearms qualifications.
Detention Officer ($53,511.54 - $76,472.86)
A Detention Officer performs responsible work in operating a twenty-four hour/day City detention facility in accordance with established procedures and requirements set forth in federal/state laws, City ordinances, and department orders. A Detention Officer has successfully completed the structured training program required of a Detention Officer Trainee. The work requires the application of specific knowledge and skills relative to the booking, detention, and release of male and female adult prisoners. Work is performed under the supervision of a Detention Sergeant; however, incumbents often work without direct supervision and are expected to exercise independent initiative and judgment in maintaining a secure and orderly detention facility. An employee in this class is subject to verbal and physical abuse from prisoners and is required to physically search prisoners and use sufficient legal force to restrain violent/combative prisoners. JOB SUMMARY
The Vehicle Patrol Security Guard is responsible for conducting mobile patrols of client properties to deter criminal activity, ensure site safety, and enforce company and client policies. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform thorough security inspections across multiple locations to identify and report unsafe conditions, safety violations, hazards, and unauthorized individuals.
Continuously monitor assigned properties to detect suspicious activity, unauthorized vehicles, trespassers, or loiterers, while maintaining a visible and professional security presence to deter potential threats.
Identify and report maintenance concerns, such as inadequate lighting, malfunctioning equipment, and other potential risks to health, safety, or property.
Prepare clear and accurate daily activity logs and incident reports detailing property damage, theft, unauthorized access, or other irregularities.
Secure and preserve the scene in the event of accidents, emergencies, or security incidents; set up barriers and signage as needed and provide clear direction and information to affected individuals.
Complete GPS-verified patrol routes and document findings using company-provided reporting systems and technology.
Communicate incidents, concerns, and suspicious activity promptly to client representatives, site management, emergency responders, or law enforcement, as appropriate.

Completes the daily tasks required for Store Loss Prevention and safety programs. Maintains positive relationships with Store Management. Conducts apprehensions within established policies and guidelines. Communicates with store Associates on damage and shrink initiatives. Identifies and resolves internal and external theft.
Adheres to established shoplifter guidelines and policies
Provides timely, courteous and knowledgeable service to customers
Promotes a culture of honesty and integrity; maintains confidentiality
Observes, apprehends, and/or deters any acts of dishonesty from outside sources
Participates in investigations and surveillance as assigned
Ensures apprehensions are consistent with store theft activity
Completes and distributes paperwork in an accurate and timely manner

Job Summary:
Do you have a passion for investigations? Are you interested in serving the State of Arizona tracking down illegal gambling? Then the Arizona Department of Gaming is looking for you!
The Intelligence Unit Special Agent works under the direction of the Intelligence Unit Supervisor and Manager. Special Agents in the Intelligence Unit are responsible for investigating complaints of illegal gambling to ensure compliance with the Arizona Tribal- State Gaming Compact, State, and Federal laws. Off Reservation complaints of Arizona Revised Statutes Title 13 may include gambling violations, racketeering, money laundering, and illegal criminal enterprises.
Job Duties:
As a Special Agent you will:
• Conduct criminal investigations of alleged violations of the Arizona Tribal-State Gaming Compact, State, and Federal laws.
• Document, gather, and preserve evidence for criminal and civil prosecution.
• Work in an undercover capacity and utilize surveillance techniques and surveillance equipment to document criminal activity.
• Conduct interviews of witnesses, confidential informants, utilizing physical and digital surveillance, preparing complex affidavits and search warrants, testifying in hearings, grand jury, and court proceedings.
• Participate in the execution of search warrants, arrest warrants, and make arrests where appropriate.
• Carry a firearm pursuant to the ADG policy and are responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of the public, and the gaming tribes.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge:
• The Arizona Tribal-State Compact and Appendices.
• The Arizona Revised Statutes, including A.R.S. and applicable federal laws.
• Proper case management and have the ability to present the information intelligently in court proceedings.
• Experience recognizing potential public safety issues in public places/facilities with large populations.
• Experience recognizing potential threats and dangers that go with working in an undercover capacity.
• Proper law enforcement procedures for conducting surveillance, undercover operations, and securing evidence properly to be presented in court.
Skills:
• Basic computer skills and excellent writing skills to prepare comprehensive reports and affidavits pursuant to gambling laws and illegal criminal organizations.
• Gathering facts, organizing, and comprehending information to make logical interpretations necessary to perform operational duties.
• Understand investigative techniques, possess interview skills and be able to write factual, understandable, and complete reports.
• Basic understanding of the Tribal-State Compact, as it relates to the assigned duties.
• General knowledge of game strategy and betting techniques.
Abilities:
• Qualify annually with their duty weapon, achieving a minimum score of 210.
• Complete eight (8) hours of continuing education annually.
• Complete eight (8) hours of proficiency training every three (3) years.
• To perform static and mobile surveillance in vehicles, or on foot.
• Affect an arrest or survive an encounter until backup Agents/Officers arrive.
• Possess better than average communication skills.
• Be highly vigilant with excellent observation skills that can be documented in the appropriate manner.
Selective Preference(s):
• To be eligible, a person must have previously served as a certified peace officer in Arizona or another state; must have completed basic and advanced training that demonstrates substantial comparability to the Arizona basic course; and must meet all of the minimum qualifications for certification as an Arizona Peace Officer.
• Requires unrestricted current certification by the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZ P.O.S.T). Applicants must be a certified Arizona peace officer in good standing or be eligible to obtain Arizona peace officer certification via the AZPOST waiver process within 6 months of hire date (AZPOST Waiver Process).
• Applicants will not be considered if they are not a current or former sworn police officer. The Department of Gaming will not sponsor any applicant in a police academy.
• Previous experience in police undercover work, preferred.
• Must have proficient interview and interrogation techniques, drafting and executing search warrants, drafting affidavits and testifying in various courts of law, criminal and administrative.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
• Candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal history investigation.
• Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment.
• Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
