Kitsap County Sheriff's Office values the wellness of our Corrections staff. We offer a work schedule that consists of 10 hr. 40 minute shifts, which consists of workweeks that are 5 days on/4 days off two weeks in a row, and then 5 days on/5 days off the third week.

* Armed staff must have the ability to carry and properly utilize a department-issued firearm.
* Note: Staff who do not qualify for legacy status under the provisions for arming are required to be armed and must be willing and able to possess and use a firearm under federal and state law; maintain firearm qualifications; and successfully complete ongoing training requirements associated with mandatory arming and potential use of force.
* Must possess and maintain an unrestricted vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Washington.
* Must have the willingness and ability to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds and anti-social behaviors; review graphic materials; and to remain objective when dealing with individuals under supervision.
AND MUST POSSESS ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CASES:
* Two years as a Community Corrections Officer within the Washington State Department of Corrections.
OR
* Bachelor's degree from a college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the US Department of Education, or foreign equivalent.
* And three years of professional work experience in adult or juvenile corrections, counseling, social work, social service, or law enforcement or closely related field which includes at least three of the following:
* Making field visits
* Preparing written correspondence, reports, and/or documents.
* Assessing cases and making recommendations
* Referring people to appropriate resources
* Presenting cases in court or hearings.
OR
* Equivalent combination of qualifying experience and education totaling seven years.

* As the case may require, apply physical force and techniques to restrain, subdue and control violent inmates, protect/maintain life and safety, prevent criminal behavior, self-defense or combat situation.
* Apply the appropriate level of force in accordance with policies, ranging from verbal warnings and physical techniques, utilizing soft and hard restraints and in extreme cases deadly force.
* Monitor radio transmissions between staff in order to respond immediately to directions/emergencies, and to call to assistance as needed.

Job Summary
Based on Department established priorities, provides support services in the areas of prisoner transport, prisoner care and custody, alternative sentencing methods, the taking of crime reports, calls for assistance of a non-criminal nature, records data entry and other activities within the Department.
Principal Accountabilities:

Job Summary:

Minimum Requirements:
Experienced Off Duty Police Officer or Retired Police Officer
Valid government ID and Social Security Card
Valid Police Credentials and CCW
Valid Firearms permit issued by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services
Valid Guard Card issued by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services
40 hours of BSIS training courses and most recent annual refresher
A GED or High School Diploma / Transcript (Associates Degree or some verifiable college preferred)
Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
Have excellent ENGLISH verbal and written skills
Have a neat professional appearance
Have access to reliable transportation
Have a track record of being ON-TIME to work and having integrity in your work

Availability, Pay, & Perks:
This job requires on-call availability. Part time and full time assignments available after observation period.
Off Duty and Retired Law Enforcement Officers are paid $45-50/hour.
Weekly pay through direct deposit.
