External applicants will not be considered.What You'll Do:This position works under general direction and requires thorough knowledge of custody, safety and security measures for detention of adult felons.Job Duties:Working with the Correction Specialists, directs all prison operations for assigned shift (e.g., conducts briefings, oversees work performance of incarcerated persons, reports employee incidents for possible discipline, ensures orderly movement of incarcerated persons, conducts periodic inspection rounds to ensure compliance with all security, safety, sanitation, contraband, fire and/or other institutional regulations, policies and procedures) Directs security operations on assigned shift related to security, safety, custody, count procedures and control of incarcerated persons.Acts as prison administrative manager in absence of warden with authority to make any and all necessary critical incident decisions.Monitors security threat group activity.Identifies and addresses security vulnerabilities.Fills in the absence of higher-ranking officials, as needed.Supervises, evaluates and approves leave requests for Correction Lieutenants and other assigned staff.Enforces utilization of body worn cameras with custody staff and ensures the proper utilization of body scanners with the incarcerated population.Provides instruction and training to subordinates on security, custody, rules and regulations.Writes post orders which provides instructions to Correction Officers assigned to the post.In absence of Correction Major, acts as liaison between custody and all other departments to communicate rules, regulations, and special concerns.Meets & shares information with the Correction Specialists in all units.Assists the Corrections Specialist in developing, implementing, and enforcing unit plans.Attends meetings Performs related duties and security functions as requested (e.g., directs security of special events, conducts institution tours) Completes daily logs and reports and responds to miscellaneous correspondences (e.g, incarcerated population kites) Makes periodic rounds.
