Role Overview
As a MaintenanceTechnician, you have your EPA certification and 1-3 years of experience in facilities services or multi-family resident satisfaction through giving best in class service and performing basic maintenance of your community.
Interact with the residents to identify, diagnose, repair, and resolve issues related to electrical, plumbing, A/C and heating systems, appliances, stairs, railings, gas fixtures, carpet, tiles, flooring, etc
Correct any unsafe conditions like open holes, broken glass or gates, broken lights, etc., and immediately assign the work to the ready staff to ensure completion of work on time
Ensure asset preservation by checking that security systems like automatic doors and surveillance cameras are functioning well
Schedule preventive maintenance programs for all equipment and ensure that they are in good working condition
Manage inventory of supplies and spare parts so that work orders are completed as requested
Work on-call shifts/schedules to assist with both resident and property emergencies

What you will do at Precinct One
Harris County- Commissioner Precinct One has an opportunity for an Operator II in our Right of Way and Trail Maintenance area. The selected candidate/s will offer a responsive service to Precinct One constituents by maintaining right of ways and assigned trails. You will assist team members in the prioritizing and completion of all assigned projects and proposed projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
In addition, the successful candidate/s will maintain a thorough understanding of how to safely use equipment including commercial mowers, weed trimmers, shovels, and rakes. The role is responsible for cleaning ditches and culverts of brush, trimming branches, and bushes, picking up trash on roadways and right-of-ways, and hiking and bike trails.
You will keep areas free of litter, heavy trash, and other debris. Inspect equipment, and vehicles daily, and make referrals to Fleet Management when necessary. Comply with safety protocols and precinct policies and procedures. Complete safety training and professional development initiatives. Report all accidents/injuries to your manager and complete the proper paperwork.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

This is skilled mechanical work in inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing heavy vehicles. The work requires knowledge of techniques, methods, and procedures used to repair heavy vehicleswhich involves the use of specialized skills or specialized equipment, which is acquired through a combination of training and considerable on the job experience. Contacts require basic courtesy, tact, and effectiveness in dealing with others, and includes contacts to request or provide information, ask questions, or obtain clarifications. Work is semi-routine in that tasks are covered by somewhat diversified procedures and precedents, but some latitude is permitted to consider the most appropriate method, technique, or procedure to follow; however, the work also involves differing situations requiring comparison of problem elements to reference points and exercising judgment to match the decision. The work is performed in a controlled environment where there are some risks and hazards, but they are known, predictable, and controllable. Physical demands are moderate and primarily consist of standing, stooping, bending, reaching, climbing, walking at work sites for extended periods of time, and lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Operates motor vehicles such as dump trucks, garbage packers, road tractors, bucket trucks, buses, trailers, heavy vans, pumpers, ladder trucks, quick response units and auxiliary engines and uses equipment and tools necessary for repairing heavy vehicles. Examples of Work
Performs tasks of Heavy Truck Technician II
Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs heavy vehicles for mechanical defects.
Performs preventive maintenance such as changing oil and hoses on heavy vehicles.
Performs general engine repair and overhaul such as adjusting clutches, replacing main and connecting rod bearings, etc.
Troubleshoots and repairs electrical systems.
Performs general mechanical repairs to systems such as fuel systems, exhaust systems, cooling systems, air conditioning, transmission, and steering and suspension components.
Perform general repair to rooftop AC systems.
Perform general repairs to RV's and Busses.
Performs mechanical repairs to diesel or propane powered equipment.
Road tests vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,000 pounds or more to determine whether repairs have been completed.
Prepares and maintains records on jobs.
Performs related work as required.

Knowledge of techniques, methods, and procedures used to repair heavy vehicles.
Knowledge of standard tools and equipment of the heavy vehicle repair trade.
Knowledge of heavy vehicle engine electrical systems.
Knowledge of hydraulic and air-operated systems.
Knowledge of test equipment including volt-ohm meter, dwell meter, tachometer, micrometer, engine analyzer, and transmission pressure gauge.
Knowledge of the hazards of the work and safety practices and procedures.
Ability to inspect and determine mechanical repairs needed on heavy vehicles with gas and diesel engines.
Ability to perform preventive maintenance on heavy vehicles.
Ability to troubleshoot and perform engine and transmission repairs using a scan tool.
Ability to read, understand, and apply repair orders and technical manuals.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

* Class B Commercial Driver's License is required during the six-month probation and must be maintained during employment in this class.
* Must qualify for prior to appointment, obtain, and maintain during employment in this class a City of Jacksonville Certification as a Public Driver.

* The probationary period for this class is six months.
