Role Overview As the Vice President of Construction, will oversee all aspects of construction management for both our in-house development team and our New Construction projects. This leadership role is accountable for the successful delivery of multifamily developments in major U.S. markets-ensuring operational excellence, financial performance, and brand-quality standards across every build. Lead the selection and management of external contractors, vendors, and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with Cortland's quality, safety, and performance standards. Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including developers, architects, engineers, local government officials, and contractors. Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry standards. Monitor and mitigate risks associated with construction projects, taking proactive measures to resolve issues as they arise. Report regularly to senior leadership on the status of construction projects, performance metrics, and P&L results. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in construction management, with a proven track record in leading teams and delivering successful residential construction projects. Proven expertise in garden-style, wrap/podium product, and core residential buildings. Strong background in managing both the technical and financial aspects of construction projects. In-depth knowledge of construction processes, scheduling, budgeting, and contract management. Strong understanding of safety regulations, quality control, and risk management in construction. Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while balancing multiple projects and priorities. LEED certification and PMP are a plus.
