Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities: Be able to accurately identify, quantify and record piping and equipment associated with the various mechanical systems Review all bid documents and seek clarifications during the bid process to ensure an accurate bid is assembled Budgeting, unit pricing, pipe sizing, general code compliance and an understanding of general layout of Plumbing, Piping and HVAC Duct Systems Concurrently bid/manage multiple projects. Create a detailed estimate with appropriate material, labor & subcontractor selections; alternates and unit pricing when required; and corresponding proposal to identify the bidder's work scope Survey potential projects and identify best solutions for pricing Evaluation of vendor and subcontractor proposal to ensure compliance with the job requirements and specifications Estimating HVAC and plumbing projects and change orders to comply with corporate profit guidelines and project requirements Provide conceptual design and pricing to support conceptual design for both HVAC and plumbing Complete system take-offs in accordance with current B&K processes. Consider and evaluate potential value engineering options and costs with the B&K team Develop project general conditions and other estimate scope summaries, schedules and/or other tools and deliverables as necessary Participate when necessary in bid finalization and review Supervisory / Budgetary / External communications responsibilities This is an individual contributing role. Internal and external communication responsibility to the appropriate contacts. Role Description: Arcadis is seeking a highly skilled Senior Estimator with advanced rail systems and MEP expertise to support cost estimating for major rail and transit infrastructure projects in the Northeast Region. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing accurate, detailed cost estimates for rail and M&E systems on projects such as stations, maintenance facilities, trackside infrastructure, signaling, and electrification. Your work will be instrumental in supporting and reviewing capital program bids, budgeting, and project delivery, ensuring cost competitiveness and technical excellence. The position offers a flexible hybrid work schedule, with 3 days per week in a New York City office and two days remote work. Role Accountabilities: * Prepare comprehensive cost estimates for rail, mechanical, and electrical systems, including, tunnel ventilation, fire/life safety, station MEP system, traction power, substations, distribution, track, OCS/third rail, lighting, communications, signaling, SCADA and rail electrification. * Analyze contract documents, project drawings, and specifications to produce detailed take-offs and pricing for all M&E elements relevant to transit and rail infrastructure. * Lead M&E estimating activities from conceptual design through to final bid submission, supporting both new construction and major rehabilitation projects. * Coordinate closely with engineering, project management, and procurement teams to ensure thorough understanding of project scope, technical requirements, and operational impacts. * Engage with key subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and validate the scope for all M&E components. * Assess and quantify project risks and opportunities specific to the transit/rail environment, including operational constraints and regulatory requirements. * Support value engineering and life-cycle cost analyses to optimize system designs and project budgets. * Participate in bid reviews, clarifications, and negotiations as a subject matter expert for M&E cost elements. * Maintain knowledge of current industry standards, transit regulations, and technological advancements in railway M&E systems. * Mentor junior estimators and provide technical guidance to the estimating team. Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience). * 10-15 years of estimating experience with a proven track record in rail systems, mechanical and electrical systems for rail, transit, or large-scale infrastructure projects. * In-depth knowledge of transit-related M&E systems, including traction power, signaling, station systems, and code compliance (e.g., FRA, NFPA, NEC). * Strong proficiency in estimating tools and software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Sage Estimating, CostX, RS Means, Bluebeam, Excel). Key Skills and Abilities: * Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. * Effective communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in multidisciplinary teams and the ability to brief senior leadership and external stakeholders. * Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet critical deadlines. * Professional certifications (e.g., AACE, PMP, PE, or equivalent) are advantageous. * Familiarity with Amtrak processes, federal procurement standards, and FTA/FRA requirements is preferred. * Strong Knowledge of project management methodologies, performance metrics, and reporting standards.
