As a member of the Employment Law Team, you will provide the highest quality legal support to the Employment Law Team's clients, which include our HR organization, our various business unit partners, and company management, on a full range of U.S. employment law issues. This position can work at one of our beautiful corporate campuses in either Stamford, CT, St. Louis, MO or Charlotte, NC.

JOB SUMMARY

As a talented writer with an aptitude for highly efficient communications, you will be primarily responsible for effective handling of employment-related, administrative claims pending with federal and state agencies, including developing strategy, conducting investigations, preparing responses to claims, and attending evidentiary hearings. You are someone who enjoys persuasive writing, staying current on employment law developments and supporting our team in providing clients with practical guidance. The position requires excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience

Researches general legal issues

Interprets laws, rulings, and regulations for corporation

Negotiates and drafts business agreements

Fields and answers questions from business units concerning transactional issues, compliance implications, and other legal topics

Coordinates and manages outside counsel

Works with senior in-house attorneys to proactively identify and address key legal issues for management

Keeps informed of industry-specific regulations

May lead and direct the work of others

REQURIED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school

Admission to State Bar in which Attorney practices

The Legislative and Regulatory Counsel provides legal advice and counsel on behalf of the Government & Industry Affairs group. The position collaborates and executes on strategy, action planning, and communication with enterprise- wide clients, business units, and other areas of Law and Regulation as well as external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:

* Draft, circulate, and socialize draft bills and regulations amongst interested parties (both internal and external) for internal consensus and to determine impact
* Develop and identify supportive coalition partners related to issue advocacy and lobbying
* Prepare ALLPAC and/or corporate contribution budgets
* Negotiate with government agencies
* Review and analyze draft Report on Examination and prepare response to draft reports related to Market Conduct Examinations and other regulatory inquiries
* Serve on strategy, implementation and compliance project teams as needed to provide counsel and legal advice
* Determine and implement strategy for resolving compliance issues (e.g., engagement with DOI and/or Legislative and Regulatory Counsel)

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job does not have supervisory duties.

Education and Experience:

* 7 or more years of related experience

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

* Juris doctorate and a license to practice law in State of Practice (and/or other states as required)

Functional Skills:

* Computer skills including MS Office suite
* Has relevant experience within a reputable law firm or an in-house legal department for a mid to large sized organization
* Insurance-industry experience
* Knowledge of legal holds and discovery processes
* Budget management skills
* Project management skills and law firm/vendor management experience
* Intermediate legal and business knowledge
* Intermediate analytical skills
* Ability to travel as required within the New York, and the surrounding East Coast area
